You could try parenting one of the generic, bald, default head meshes to the welding mask you know :V

hi! im not sure what that means? like i said in the description this is my first time making a mod and i had a feeling you could somehow tack on a random head mesh but since the elder helmet didnt have one to throw in i was unsure how to just conjure one alongside it :( if you could explain it to me ill happily implement it :)

You would have to copy one of the premade head mesh .nif files and paste its branch into the main node of the raider goon mask via nifskope. Or something of the sort, I'm not 108% positive (I'm more of a Blender kinda guy than a Nifskope kinda guy)

The only way to actually "fix" the head being invisible would be to edit the equipment settings in the Creation Kit so that the headpiece doesn't hide the character's actual head. You were actually pretty much right, the way all gear works is that it equips to slots that are defined in the game's data. For example, things like glasses or goggles simply equip to the eye slot, making them just sit on your face without hiding anything. Hats and hoods equip in a way that only partially hides the head, usually the top or the back, or the front in the case of masks. Gear like the cultist elder hood are registered as full helmets, and thus completely hide the character's head.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to edit any of that kind of data in 76, as there is no CK for it. Another less tidy solution though, would be to replace another mask item with the Raider Goon mask so it'll show up properly.

Are you using any kind of software to edit these meshes, or are you just renaming and repacking files?
