Personally I like the idea of unique paints for each armor, as something like Medic paint makes more sense (to me) on a "lighter" armor like the t-51 vs the x-01 or whatever. That said it's always cool to be able to have the option to use any armor. Would also be cool if it was standalone, and the paint had some sort of effect that would make sense like increased charisma or intelligence or something, or some benefit when using aid items.
As far as new paint jobs, maybe you could do more combat themed versions of armor that incorporate a military or air force color scheme or something. Or maybe a set of more basic schemes like the first armor with different icons to denote a function like heavy weapons or marksman or whatever.
But probably the coolest part of the Medic paint(for me) was giving my intelligence/charisma based medic character a more clear motivation for being in power armor. Personally I resent how large a part of the game power armor was made, and I prefer to not see it until getting at least halfway into the story. So it would be cool to see paint jobs that cater to non-violent/non-militant play styles with future variants. I don't know exactly what all those could be, but off the top of my head: an engineer/construction worker sort of armor with hazard stripes and reflectors or something.

so black paint job with red cross.
it'd look badass.
