Keep in mind that when I say "anything", the Nexus policies still apply. So, you can discuss the weather, or just have a long debate about whether fungi or algae is the best lichenic organism. But you can't write a multi-chapter manifesto about "How we should deal with the immigrants once and for all."

So, yeah, keep that in mind.

So has anyone given the CK a try yet? I know it's just in Beta, which makes me weary of trying it yet myself but i'm curious to hear what you guys think of it if you've had the chance to toy with it yet.

I've done it by now. It's a bit meh. Not very streamlined, a lot of things take longer than they ought to take. Feels like they made few improvements on the one from Skyrim.

Granted, you can do WAY MORE stuff with it. Which is a plus, but it's hard to find the motivation when you're stuck having to do tedious preliminaries all the time.

True. I guess it just doesn't bother me that much cause I multi-task all the time anyway (aka get distracted by the internet while waiting on the CK to do it's thing and then forgetting I was playing with the CK to begin with). For me the motivation issue right now comes from the fact that pretty much all the things I wanted to do has been done by someone else by now and what they did looks so great I don't even feel like bothering. But I might anyway. We can always use more craftable furniture with clutter already added, right?

I have but mostly to upload a mod to bethesda.net (you have to package it with the CK), so my experience isn't exactly thorough. I didn't use the GECK for FNV so maybe that's why my impression was that I feel much more comfortable in xEdit. Was a bit surprised how stable it was considering how much people have been cursing it's older siblings. From my lurking in the CK forum there seems to be two categories of users, those who are experienced and thus miss the new (better?) way to do things since they have their routine. The other category consists of users who don't grasp the concept and terminology of modding. Hopefully we will see some tutorials coming out that shows the new features otherwise discovering them is going to take the community a while, perhaps after Far Harbor DLC there will be more effort put into CK and it's wiki.

I ended up giving it a try, but sadly I found that what I wanted to do wasn't possible yet as the Beta doesn't support loading multiple masters right now. I was impressed with the stability though, really impressed. I've used the Skyrim CK in the past and that thing was... well a nightmare to just get working really.

      But right now FO4Edit feels a bit more comfortable for me, it can load all the files I need it to load, and generally does what I need it to do. That said I do plan on moving over to the CK, but I really want it to get updated so it can do more than one master file at a time, and I'd really like some tutorials out for it, cause what little I learned while tinkering with Skyrim I've basically forgotten by now. ^^;

Also do we have a release date for the Far Harbor DLC yet? I'm kind of excited for that one...

I think 19th May is the Far Harbor release date. Not gonna comment on any specifics as I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but it's huge! Like Dragonborn huge. So hopefully it will be well received. I've played it for like 4 hours and I've barely dented the size.

I agree, FO4Edit, even without being fully decoded is way more orderly and logical in it's interface in my mind. But like you said, CK is still in beta, hopefully they will listen the massive bugreports at bethesda.net from some very experienced authors and try to improve.

Well glad I just finished up the Mechanist then myself. Spent the past two days in the CK cleaning out the excessive amounts of dirt decals that are EVERYWHERE in the Mechanists lair, which was a pretty good exercise for getting used to the CK again. Hopefully I didn't break something (haven't tested it yet). I also found the .ini edit to allow multiple masters, but I also find it kind of silly that we still have to do .ini edits to load multiple masters, cause the ability to do is clearly already there, so why not enable it from the get-go?

Good to hear that the Far Harbor DLC is going to be big! My only concern is that it seems to be Nick centric, and i'm so tired of Nick it's not even funny, but oh well.

Don't worry, the DLC is way more "modular" in terms of you being able to shape it and what direction it takes. They really seemed to have listened to the fans of previous games who missed being able to be evil (not sarcastic, evil) and having actions and decisions the player take actually matter. Wish they would have adopted that approach to the vanilla game but I guess it at least makes future DLCs more attractive. Also I guess the changes from the release version compared to the beta I played will only make it better although I have to say the beta was rock solid, only had one problem related to a quest which a quickload sorted out.

      TLDR; good time ahead

Okay that is awesome, cause yhea I do miss being able to actually be evil (even if pretty much all our companions are good-two-shoes right now). But I am very excited to hear we're getting an actual, meaty DLC, especially considering it's price tag (granted I got the seasonpass before they raised the price of that too but you know...).

Also seems like I broke stuff with my little mod. Must have deleted some workshop markers or something by mistake. I thought I was being careful, but my workshop area is all patchy now and my timer kicks in for no reason. So back to the kit and see what I effed up. XD (Then again the mechanists lair has so many markers it's ridiculous, it's not exactly newbie friendly, so I'm surprised this is all I messed up)

Yeah, there are so much s#*! going on in that place that I wouldn't dare mess around with it myself. I use Spring Cleaning so I was able to satisfy my OCD/cleanliness, then I never went there again. Very weird settlement and place in general.

I think you could probably use Place Anywhere (and use the mode the allows you to outline/manipulate stuff that are off limits) and SC_Scraplist (which gives you scrap recipies for dirt decals and other stuff normally not scrappable in vanilla) and pretty much edit the place in-game.

Yhea. I ended up just grabbing a couple of other mods to sort things out for now. But the issue is Spring Cleaning doesn't really support Automatron right now, so there's a ton of stuff that can't be scrapped, and the dirt decals can't even be selected in in the console (cause they're handled with markers, and not as items) so they can't be disabled from inside the game.

Which wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that I've fallen in love with that settlement and want to use it as a main hub. But I'm gonna keep tinkering with it. I'm pretty sure that I can redo it, and do it right now when I know how to hide layers and markers I'm not interested in.

Anyone here interested in helping me on a project?

I need some custom textures for some ammo boxes.

I need custom meshes for cases/bullets.

This is all for my New Calibers mod. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8588/?

I've added a lot of ammo to the game and I want to give all my new bullets a unique and accurate look. This is going to be a big undertaking for anyone interested.

Unfortunately, I am no good at art - trust me, me doing this by myself would likely not produce good results - I know HOW to do all this (at least in theory) but I just can't make anything that looks even remotely good.

If you are interested, even if you just want to do one or two, PM me.

So it looks like we'll be getting the Creation Kit in April, apparently sometime in between the first and second DLC, so that's some good news for us modders at least. And speaking of the DLC's, come March 1st they're raising the price of the season pass from $30 to $50 cause "we have more than $60 worth of DLC's coming out!" which sounds like a kind of lame reasoning, but considering many modders end up using DLC resources in mods I figured I'd give a heads up on that too.

Here's the articles for anyone interested in reading them.

    Creation Kit related:

DLc's and season pass announcement (by the way note that the first gameplay DLC already costs almost as much as the season pass does right now... that better be a meaty DLC!)

Try not to beat your head in too much... You need that for modding!

Also, back in the day when I was in high school, 9th or 10th grade I think, I literally banged my head against the math book on my desk because people were asking stupid fucking questions, the kind that they SHOULD know the answer to because the teacher had LITERALLY JUST FINISHED TALKING ABOUT IT!

You just gave me a 'Nam style flashback.

Lol I'll try! But I might just put it on hold until the creation kit comes out, might get less concussions that way.

Also it's very rude to bring up "THE TEACHER JUST FINISHED TALKING ABOUT IT!" moments, no need to traumatize the rest of us with high school flashbacks. In my case flashbacks to basic computer classes in the early 00's. I had classmates who didn't even know how to turn on a computer, yet refused to pay attention when the teacher was talking (thus forcing him to repeat himself 4-5 times), meanwhile I was the nerdy kid who taught herself HTML in the 90's cause she was bored and making a website seemed like a fun idea. I had 8 classmates (very small class) and still had to hear "how do I copy a text?" 4-5 times in a single period. Quickly followed by "4-5 how do I paste it in to word?" and a couple of "Program X won't open!" (X being either the webbrowser, word processor, or something we weren't even using) cause people couldn't grasp the difference between a double click and a single click. I sat through 3 hours of that every week for a year. My younger self had a much higher BS tolerance than my current self. :p

Whoa, I was still a kid in the 90's, born back in '94 when Tupac wrote that song a real long time ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDdbn0eTDpA)

I remember watching my brother, sister, and dad have a LAN party and play DOOM and they didn't let me play because there were not enough computers and they were being selfish, also I was youngest, they did that well into the early 00's. I only got to play by myself. Used to play that 'NAM game too.

My bro and I would play Mortal Kombat on the SNES back in the day, he always won.

Gee, thanks for making me feel like the little old lady of the guild. Born in '85 and got into gaming on my friends Amiga, and let me tell you Mortal Kombat on the Amiga wasn't fair (but it was hilarious) when you only had one joystick and one mouse. Also changing characters were a sin punishable by death, cause that meant switching floppys, and you'd end up having to wait 15-20 minutes before you could play again (those floppies were slow as hell to read). And yes, whoever has the joystick and could actually control their character properly tended to win. XD

Doom was a good game though, and I'm honestly kind of excited for the new Doom game just cause of nostalgia, but kept us entertained for far longer. Not to mention Worms, at this point I've probably lost years of my life to that game series (I've only played it for well... 21 years.... *mutters something about 'back in my day').

Didn't get a computer at home until 96-97 though, and then I still had to share with my mom, and she was less than thrilled when I wanted to take it to LAN parties, so I still ended up borrowing friends old computers for that, cause it was less hassle than convincing her and then listening to her claim that the LAN broke the computer for 6 months (which it didn't. She just had a love for downloading and playing free little shockwave games and stuff. She still does. She still doesn't believe most of her malware comes from that....).

After highschool me and my buddy just got together and built me my first computer that was really my own, and I've basically been tinkering with gaming mods etc. since then (for a long while it was just Ragnarök Online though...)

I was born in '68...my first experience was with TRS_DOS and BASIC on a TRS_80 (Model 4) in HS. My teacher back then accused me of being a hacker because I liked to experiment with code...more or less to see what happened.

I still have the 5.25" floppy around somewhere that contains the program I wrote to pass that class.

Don't worry, I never understood the point of Abort/Retry/Fail either...no matter what you chose it wuz dun busted. I had great fun playing a Star Trek space shooter where the 'graphics' were ASCII art.

What surfing the internet was like back then..well, sort of. It was even more primitive than this, actually.
