If you outright disagree with the Guild ideas. Then, that's okay. But telling us about it won't change how we agree with them. Simply put, if you don't like us. Don't get involved. No need to argue about it. But if you still want to, I respect your right to do so. And if you like the idea of the Guild, and have thoughts on how to improve it. Feel free to share.

Hi! so I am just starting out on modding, and I think this is a great idea! But if I could recommend one thing, I would include a section for mod ideas that new modders want to help out with, but don't think they themselves have the skill to particularly make, teaching the lesser taught modders some nice skills potentially and encouraging cooperation even more

That would be a great idea, I do forsee this turning out a bit like a request thread though which I guess is also fine. This forum isn't very well made for communicating in my opinion.

I've been working recently on some of the more common questions and how to make mods that are commonly requested (ie. standalone retextures of vanilla items etc) and have made some template esp's people can edit to suit their liking. It's progressing very slowly though as I want to make sure I don't suggest roundabout ways to simple tasks and also the fact the I'm horrible at explaining things.

There are lots of independent people doing what you are suggesting, but to utilize all these people under the same umbrella seems a complicated sadly.

Love this, been pushing for something like it and glad to see someone has put the time and know how into doing it. A damn fine looking job of it too!

Understand this is a prototype, but is Skyrim 'unofficially' supported? If so, will try incorporating this on my next update for sure! Amazing stuff!

    Hello!

Something my easily annoyed brain noticed was the white power-field oozing from the shady looking viking-type guys armpit in the logo. These kind of things are best dealt with early on, or they might fester and spread through society. Therefore I consulted a priest of the church of OCD and common decency and after a carefully executed ritual it has now been exorcised from the PSD file.

This is what what I mean:
    URsp6w8.png

The file has now be cleansed and I added a few other options (such as the silhouetted version) in groups. All is well!

Here is the new file: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2731A36C33D2332E!57397&authkey=!ABbyeC21hZF22Vs&ithint=file%2cpsd

So here's a thought, could we maybe get a general chit-chat type forum? Just somewhere to talk, rant a bit, complain about the tediousness that is program X, and just generally socialize? I know this is suppose to mainly be about helping people and such, but having somewhere to take the chitchat could be a good thing, that way it won't randomly clog up other places. (Also I realized this cause I wanted somewhere to unload about how friggin tedious nifskope is to work in. I mean it's awesome, but holy crap I'm getting tired of positioning objects in it. X..x)

I'll put it in right now. Happy ranting, mate.

    This is a great idea!

I did a little private dabbling with FO3/NV for TTW but the GECK would drive me crazy for how slow it was and all of those error messages that mostly mean nothing. I am hoping the new GECK/CK is much better for FO4 but I still have a learning curve to go.

Are there any books for this version of game scripting or game scripting in general. Or, is it only online?

There's plenty of books on programming in general. But as I understand it, Bethesda makes their own scripting language. I believe they're derived from some Microsoft language. I think Gamebryo was based on Visual Basic. Not entirely sure what the new gen language is based on, however. Because, well, info on it is scarce. Only reason I learned about Gamebryo was due to how my wife took college courses in Visual Basic, and HTML and some other programming, and recognised the syntax and structure of my scripts.

So, if you find out what the CK generation games are derived from, then yeah, you can probably find all kinds of helpful books.

Can I suggest giving this a test run in the Skyrim modding community as well? It's still going *very* strong regardless of the release of FO4...

While I'm here...I'm also a moderator over on reddit.com/r/falloutmods and reddit.com/r/skyrimmods and find that those communities will react to something like this much quicker than Nexus (perhaps due to our much smaller community bases.)

As well, those smaller communities are frequented by brand new mod users, learning authors, and even quite a few "big names". Obviously it's still a good idea to try to promote this around Nexus as this is where the heart and mass of the modding community is. I just notice that smaller community = higher visibility above the noise.

Not sure how any of those communities will react to something like this, but if anything it could lead to some great discussion to improve upon the idea. I for one like it and see the potential for it to really work for some people.

It's funny, because, people always told me reddit was a terrible place. They said particularly the feminist subreddit was just awful. So, I decided to sign up and visit, going to the feminist subreddit in particular to make up my own mind, and they're really nice. I don't understand why reddit has such a reputation. I had a great time talking civil rights and social conditioning. No trouble at all.

I'd be glad to expand into reddit once we're out of the prototype phase here on Fallout 4.

I would like to propose a set of standards for tutorials. Quite frankly, finding the right tutorial or information for what you need to do can be a major chore. All you need to do is be unaware of a piece of terminology and searching for the information becomes a random clickfest. The fact that we're starting a guild not only implies sharing resources, but also providing instruction. Here's what I propose:

    1) While video tutorials are great for many things, for mod creation a PDF file is still the superior choice. It's easy to alt-tab between a tutorial and the tools you're using, links can be embedded, and the reader can more easily focus on the sections needed.

    2) A tutorial should cover a project from start to finish, listing all tools necessary and provide links to the tools. If alternate tools are available for a task a link should be included leading to information about that tool (i.e. Gimp vs. Photoshop).

    3) Any subject touched on but deemed to be outside the scope of a tutorial should have a link to a source of information or tutorial that covers that information, if known.

    4) Tutorials should include a glossary defining any special terms used, links for these would be helpful as well for more information.

As I haven't looked into things like this and forever free, when you put the image on the mod page does it apply to only that mod?
(e.g. I put this on one mod and it applies to no other mods but that mod alone)

It only applies to individual mods. No obligations beyond that. It would be harsh to expect people to completely accommodate a whole new system in such a way. Try it and see if you like it, and if you do, use it as much, or as little, as you like.

Well in that case, I look forward to the community benefiting from this and even helping out a bit when the creation kit comes around.

Hey! Just one note. About "Terms of Use Framework" . I do not see any note that content is only for guild members, in that framework. So it reads like I'm allowing it just for everyone.

"As per all Modder's Guild mods, you must also be prepared to in return for using Guild protected assets, to share any mods you create containing Guild protected files, under the Modder's Guild terms of use. Thereby allowing other Modder's Guild mods to use your files. As you may use theirs."

But I'll clarify just in case.
