-Originally, I had redone the entire cage area, using new support beams and giving the lightbulb a 'socket'. I ended up switching meshes part way due to a couple of things, but, I intend to eventually update this mesh to have the lightbulb "socket" to make it look more complete.
-Redoing parts such as the decorative pieces on the cross beam & the very top are a possibility, currently they are just 2 flat planes textured to look like a 3d object. I didn't adjust these at this time to keep the poly count at its very low count, but I may do a different version.
-Retexture(s) - I do want to give it a better looking texture at some point. Right now, I am more focused on repairing meshes and giving them the working lightbulb effect so they don't look as awkward. Plus I am not great at textures. But, I am learning.
-Other than possibly making these 2 standalone, or uploading any retextures, I probably won't be doing much more with this as a solo mod. It will be part of my bigger collection. I just thought I would share this ahead of time.
Also, just a note: this ONLY replaces the workshop crafted model, not the models you find in the wasteland. its possible to use this for both, I think, though of course world-based lights wouldn't be powered. (Don't know if using this mesh w/ its powered on/ off stuff would cause issues not being used by the workshop or not.)
It might be cool to have another version. I was considering doing the same thing and fixing the mesh, but I wanted to add the lanterns fire light as an option. But i found that the lanterns don't cast much if any light really, they are augmented by an actual light emitting element in the creation kit and that's why they cant be moved in game normally. But DDProductions83 made some great shadowed fire lights and it made me think that merging this with one of his lights might do the trick. Using them as replacers through out the game world with either electric lights of lantern lights would have a cool look to it. I would imagine that people would stick candles and or oil burning lamps into these to light up areas. Something Bethesda should have thought of.
I considered doing a fire version that didn't require power, but in the end chose to do this to be in line with the what homemaker originally does. I could turn on shadow casting on this light, too, but I chose not to simply to keep performance requirements lower.
All that said though, doing a fire version is doable. It shouldn't be that hard actually, so I may do it at some point
Not sure if Homemaker has it, but any chance you could also fix the ones that are used on the sides of buildings? Like the ones used on Covenant houses. They are the same style just for using as porch lights. DDProductions83 pretty much showed in his video of his new flame lights that the shadows are really not an issue in Fallout 4 like it was in Skyrim. The new engine is much more robust and its lighting portion can handle the shadows really well. Just pointing that out for future lighting options. Only the slowest of computers might suffer, and in that case they simply should not be heavily modding anyway. Just something to consider as you move forward with making mods.
Thanks for the note on the shadows-- One issue I have at this point right now, is that the shadows are controlled by the .esp. So to add shadows, means I would need to add an override esp for just 2 items currently, which is over kill. Once I have more content, I will do an esp, and will definitely look into the shadows.
For some reason, the globe light that I just got done editing, the shadow has cracks in it, that I havent been able to solve yet. They make no sense since the mesh doesn't have em at all *shrug*.
As for the wall mounted, its on my list of to do's
The cracks are an artifact that was also present in Skyrim's Shadow lights. So its nothing you have done wrong, its a limitation of the engine and how it draws the shadows. Back when I used to watch Wheeze do work on Luftarin for Skyrim he often spoke about the gap in the shadow lights and had to do some interesting tricks to try and hide them. From what I gather and have seen it seems to be that the game engine does not fully wrap and close the shadow effect properly. Again a bug in the Creation Engine and not something I think is going to go away any time soon. So don't let it hold you up or put you off making anything with shadow lights.
Little delayed reply on my part, but thank you so much for telling me that hah. I spent a lot of time trying to fix the damned shadow effect. Glad it wasn't anything I did particularly wrong. I will probably upload more of the lights this week, been a bit under the weather and have had a harder time focusing on it, but do have others done.
I'm pretty sad that you never continued to fix the rest of the lights from Homemaker... and I'm extremely surprised the mod author of Homemaker hasn't fixed it themselves... I've never been able to use their lights due to the bulbs not appearing lit... Sigh.
Possible, yes. I haven't looked into how difficult hardwired variants are, after I get some other stuff done, I will take a look. If / when I did, I will be sure to let you know.

Feedback is appreciated!
