I have modified that as well. I am also making an Ant King with Stingwing anims from it. A bit tricky, but some cleaver bone adjustments will make it real natural.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant_colony - typical colony consists of one or more egg-laying queens, numerous sterile females (workers, soldiers) and, seasonally, many winged sexual males and females - Swarms of the winged sexuals (known as alates) depart the nest in search of other nests - Younger ants work within the nest protecting the queen - If queen is not present is replaced by egg-laying workers - Some social-parasitic species of ants, known as the slave-making ant, raid and steal larvae from neighboring colonies.
I am more focused on making them an interesting and challenging enemy. Multiple species with unique Ant Hills (special scripted turrets) and different Ant factions that are enemies. For example: I am making a Bullet Ant that flies fast with high avoidance and shoots high speed stingers. I am making Radmites (Termites) with unique mounds that are hostile to Ants. Fire Ants will be a separate and more deadly species than the Black Carpenter style ants. More on the drawing board.
Seems really cool but I'd recommend using native species/justifying why the non-native species are there, such as a note in Nuka-world's Safari Adventure saying the brought bullet ants into the park. I think Odorous house ants would fit well as a semi-common variant that releases an AOE attack that does minor damage over time. Either way seems super cool!
