Put the first folder(My Games) where you have the documents: C:\Users\Documents The second folder(D-Games) is directly where the game is, I have this D:\Games\Fallout 4
been doing some more testing with this, and i think another tweak needs to be added, uExterior Cell Buffer=144 put this under uGridsToLoad=5 in the general, it was set to 44, but when i made the change it instantly improved the stability for me, now it's not clear how much this can be risen, but it could possibly even be extended further than 144 for more stability, but i have not experimented with this yet.
i have a little question about the download, so i noticed there are two separate files for ini tweaks, which one do i use? there is the one named D-games and the other named my games.
Use both. I do not know how, but it works that way, probably because it is Bethesda. You need both the Fallout4.ini files in My games and the root folder with the game.
i discovered a slight issue, so i'm an English speaker and reader and the ini provided is in your native tong lol. how do i fix this, which ini setting to i need do change to fix this?
EDIT, never mind, i found what i need to change, i feel stupid i had to look this up lol. https://search.brave.com/search?q=which+ini+setting+do+i+need+to+change+in+FO4+ini+to+change+language+back+to+english%3F&source=desktop&summary=1&conversation=da971bde1aabc5b5430af9
Oh, yeah. I didn't have time to keep track of everything, I just decided to post it for myself, I didn't think anyone would seriously download it, lol. Thanks, I'll add it to the description so that you can change the language if necessary.
yeah well i'm in the middle of testing this ini tweak, but i think one of my mistakes was added and i now have to take that out of the tweak, the other day i was attempting this same thing, only i found a few other tweaks and i think i should reverse them, not your tweaks, the other ones, just to see what yours have changed.
one weird thing did happen, for some reason when i started my game in the profile i was using, suddenly my game saves didn't exist and it made me start a new playthrough, now this could be a glitch due to Vortex but normally this kind of thing never happens when dealing with Vortex, but for some reason it took my modlist and everything running off of the script extender but it put my saves in another folder, i quit the game not figuring it out, i found where the saves went but it was very odd for them being in that other location instead of being handled by Vortex like normal, i booted up the game again and suddenly my game was back to normal again.
i didn't expect an odd thing like that to happen just by making some tweaks in my ini files.
anyway i'm still glad you made this tweak, and you said you spent years compiling it, and when i see people say this kind of thing, i take it seriously because it sounds like a lot of time was put into it, which suggests that it will mostly be a good thing for the user experience and that it can be trusted.
It's strange that this happened with the saves, but I'm glad that you managed to solve the problem. If it's not difficult, could you share this solution so that I can warn the others in the description?
One of the most important points why I posted these ini files was that at some point I found an easy solution in the Internet bins that changed just a couple of lines so that the fps was high in Boston, but I don't remember what the settings were at all. It said that this corrects the unnecessary display of shadows or objects that are not currently in the field of view. Something like that.
hmn, that sounds a bit like culling the method involves taking objects outside of your view from rendering, but with shadows, this would improve FPS greatly if done properly, in the past i have tried mods that do this, normally they don't do it through an ini tweak, there was a old skyrim mod that did this back in the day and it was an amazing mod to view in action the game was very snappy, but i'm still going to try this tweak out.
anyway i think that other issue with the saves had to do with Vortex and to be honest, and i have no clue how it corrected itself.
i probably should be using MO2 because it handles the ini files separate from the main ones, it allows you to tweak them without dismantling the real ones, i wish Vortex had that feature, i use Vortex because it's easy to use in comparison over MO2, however MO2 has some better features built-into the program that are better than Vortex, so it's a bit of a mixed bag.
on a side note the other mod ini tweaks i followed were from this page, https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/36352?tab=description
and i think i messed up this one which might have lead to your tweaks not working properly.
Apparently, everyone goes their own way and is looking for their own solution on how to increase FPS. Personally, it became a problem for me once when I touched bUseCombinedObjects, but it was so long ago that I don't even remember, but since then I haven't touched this line.
the Boston fps mod says not to mess with these tweaks, but i have done both and i have not found either to do much of anything, but i hope with a bigger tweaked list that it can improve them, but you never know up until you give it a test try.
here is a video i created without your tweaks. https://cdn.mgtow.tv/upload/videos/2025/04/xktcyotSLuYfCWDuODMk_28_47a79a5e730c6318b19af7b2a85a1599_video_1080p_converted.mp4
then one with only your tweaks. https://cdn.mgtow.tv/upload/videos/2025/04/awc3QFztS6EW67Ctayc6_28_654e7022309cd45793483921c67f434e_video_1080p_converted.mp4
however this area of the map is much worse than other sections of the city, so idk. maybe i should give that Boston fps fix mod another try, but i just don't remember that mod really doing any better for me, so it's a mixed bag i can't really tell.
however i did notice the tweaks helped when using the scope, so zooming in the fps skyrocketed but viewing everything not zoomed in ran like it normally does.
i just came across this tweak as another enhancer for performance. https://search.brave.com/search?q=uGridsToLoad%3D5+FO4+ini&source=desktop&summary=1&conversation=5ae37db1aa47415df4e519
my machine is a bit old so this should also help somewhat.
Most users and modders believe that you do not need to touch uGridsToLoad, as this can lead to different negative consequences. At a value of 7, the world is loaded even beyond sight, which is not necessary for the game. Better leave default at 5. I also noticed you have a mod for green trees and grass, as well as, if I'm not mistaken, generated lods. I also use textures and lods, but vanilla's textures, and lods from luxors, they do not consume fps. And judging by the sounds, you probably have a War Of The Commonwealth mod or other mod that adds a lot of spawn, and this greatly affects the processor load. Try the killall console team and see if the fps will change.
Speaking of spawns. In my game, the vanilla spawn has been removed, but I have added hundreds of wandering NPCs that cause stuttering, but overall the fps stays around 75. There are some places with strong drawdowns up to 30, but this is due to the mods for settlements in Boston, even internal ones, such as Live in Library or Shamrock Taphouse. There's nothing wrong with disconnected settlements. I suspect that the fps problem lies in vanilla spawns.
i did have the Ugridstoload at 5 but i read online that you can lower this value for better performance, they suggested you can go as low as 1, but that was only recommended for intel GPU's, i mean i still could go that low, but i chose to go to 3 instead, and i do have one spawn mod called SKK spawns, and i have it set pretty low, the tree mod i'm using actually runs damn good outside of the Boston area, but i have always had these low fps issues in Boston even when my game was running vanilla, i have never gotten any higher than 30fps in these locations, but like i said, outside of Boston i have no issue reaching 70 to 90fps.
i actually refuse to do settlement build mods in Boston, hangmans alley and bunker hill are the worst locations for settlements, i have seen other mods do these locations in the city and they are just too heavy to run so there is no reason for me to build anything in these locations.
this is the tree mod i'm using, well this is the one that downscales the tree mod i use. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/61826 i chose the 1k option because i want good performance.
but like i said, even without this tree mod, the fps in vanilla game was still reaching 30fps in deep boston.
anyway i'm always game for more tweaks to get better performance in my game.
If I could help your fps in Boston grow to optimal levels, I would only be happy, because I want to pay tribute to the Nexus community for brightening up my days, for all these 1000 mods that I used to make Fallout a dream game. Normally, ini should fundamentally solve the fps problem, but you still have low values in Boston and I didn't see any heavy mods like Veldt there, which reduced fps to 20 for me. Do you have a Fullhd monitor? I just saw similar things in my friend's Skyrim, he has the same system as me, but a QHD monitor.
the only mods i use are, well i might be able to show you. this is my load order it's not that big either and i rarely go any higher in mods used. https://cdn.mgtow.tv/upload/videos/2025/05/GOigunXQSRc78b43xmka_03_ea648853c951afbc2cbd642dc3072a1a_video_1080p_converted.mp4
I didn't see anything wrong here except Scrap Everithing, but it won't give such a drag either. However, it gave me one thought- are you using ENB or Reshade? If so, try disabling these effects and check the fps. This does not mean that you should abandon ENB and Reshade, but I can help you set them up for better performance.
no ENB or reshade, the funny thing about the scrap everything mod is in my game i can't even use it as a plugin as one of my other mods prevents it from working because of an ini change that i needed to get that other one to work, so it's effectively useless and in my load order for lol i should take it out, i did try a few ENBs a few a weeks ago, but they all just tanked the fps further, instead i have opted to using that weather lighting and recoloring mod instead of ENB called NAC X Legacy edition.
so no reshade or ENB mods are present, just recoloring weather and lighting mods.
on a side note, i have noticed when it rains or in some of the raining weather modes it can tank fps and even foggy weather as well, which is why i use that NAX X mod, because it has a built-in weather on the fly changer that i can use any time the weather turns to rain that tanks fps.
What processor do you have? It's hard for me to understand how a video card that is stronger than mine, on my ini settings in a FullHD game, can produce 30-40 fps in Boston, while I start to feel uncomfortable if the fps suddenly drops to 60 somewhere. If it's not about the processor or the memory, then I can only sin on some kind of mod that is buggy, conflicts with something, or breaks the pre-combines. I do not know, to be honest.
In general, I can assume one thing- you don't need these ini files, in your videos I noticed a very small, but still performance gain without these settings. You need to find the culprit among the mods. I also had a feeling that GTA 5 used to give me 30 fps a long time ago and I couldn't figure out why, then reinstalling Windows, everything became fine. But this is one of the extremes and is recommended only if you have a problem with all games and applications. If it's just about F4, then you need to dig into it.
hmn, i suppose i could test a fresh profile to see which mods might be effecting it, only using the high fps mod and MCM and maybe the script extender.
ok doing a test now, and holy s#*! i have never seen my game run so damn well in all the years of playing this game. this is my footage, now granted it's far less mods as it's damn near vanilla game at this point, my recorder was set to 30fps, sorry forgot to make it higher, but you can see the fps gains and i made sure to cover all the trouble areas of the city.
now i just have to figure out which one of my mods is causing the fps to tank like hell and avoid that mod like the plague.
i forgot to test the weather and see how that runs, oh well, i can do that later.
you should rename the mod to " magic FPS gains " because holy s#*! it works really well!
EDIT: i just did a weather test and also threw in some heavy mods to see how well it ran, and holy crap, i used the most NPC heavy spawning mod i have on my load order and it didn't even phase it, then i threw in another mod that pretty much causes endless chaos all the time and it still ran incredibly good, i was throwing everything at it and it was still doing crazy good, the only issue i ran into was viewing the city from high where you view most of the city, that was the only time my fps dropped to 30, that and using a weapon like a fatman and shooting it like crazy, i was expecting a CTD but no, none to speak of and i was really trying to make it crash, i just couldn't make it happen, i didn't record any of that chaos but it was sure fun as hell.
I'm very glad that you did it, now all that remains is to find that ill-fated mod that reduced fps by half, or even three times. Keep watching and write down what kind of mod it was, I want to study it, what exactly causes such friezes in it.
now i'm not 100% sure, but i think it might be related to the shadow boost mod, it seems to not be saving the settings when i set them to save, but it also seems it could be some other mods i use, the stutter fix mod also seems to not be working properly and both these mods i have reinstalled and even updated to the newer versions but they both seem to be somewhat unstable.
but without them, i wouldn't be getting these fps gains and your ini tweaks working within conjunction with each other. so here is some slightly more modded game and me messing with the settings while i play to show what's going on. https://cdn.mgtow.tv/upload/videos/2025/05/a2V2T4pBHGF3rQKYHiYW_07_9c3c2768b06192d9dfedf235c7817f95_video_1080p_converted.mp4
Shadow settings are the most voracious factor. When I passed Mafia Definitive, my fps dropped to 30 at night in the city. I just switched the shadows from high to medium and my fps was at 75. Since then, I've made it a rule to turn down the shadow settings when I launch a new game. By the way, you have good taste in music.
i decided to turn the shadows way down to zero for the best FPS gain, but i had to completely delete that mod and reinstall it and the stutter mod, because that's what fixed the stutter and fps issues in most areas, then i chose which weathers to allow, i chose to make them do the weathers that don't show noticeable shadows as it's less bothersome.
funny enough the music goes along with my current game setup as i have been having fun with a mod from a user that created this badass mod that he took down, i'm glad i still have a copy of this mod as he kind of recreated the same mod again, but it's not as good as the one he took down sadly.
the mod was called PVE, and it's not exactly a spawn mod, there are hidden doors across the landscape and they are constantly pumping out various enemy's in the game and they exist for you or any NPC to fight up against, this video doesn't show that mod in action, but it's such a badass mod it goes with this kind of music really well.
anyway i'm kind of new to this music, my brother wanted me to listen to some Dio and i said ok, i use youtube music and the algorithm chooses the music for me, and it runs really well and doesn't take up too much memory like vanilla youtube does.

If you're trying to fix or change the language in Fallout 4, follow these steps:
Fallout4.ini
.sLanguage
.iniCopyEdit
sLanguage=en
Fallout4.ini
.Cheers
there is the one named D-games and the other named my games.
