*ENB v0307 is a powerful yet simple to use graphics tool, that allows you to adjust the in-game brightness, among many other cool graphic effects. It has little to no FPS hit.*
As True Nights is intended for ENB users, if you find its too dark or even too light, its quick and easy to adjust live while in game, with instant visual feedback. This is time of Day independent! With so many different PC hardware setups and monitors having an effect, True Nights rarely 'perfect' for you right away. With a little tuning it can be!
As example; I created True Nights on an above average quality Samsung 21:9 monitor with great quality contrast ratio. When I play on my smart TV, I have to increase the Direct light to 9.00 and the Ambient to 3.00 in ENB and it takes all of about 10 seconds. I also adjust Cloud Intensity at night for some stunning cloud visuals during harsh weather. I'll explain how-to below...
First, a note...understand that the atmospherics of True Nights are intended to be realistic. Its also intended that you need to use a form of flashlight during poor weather -if you cannot see the stars and moon, it should be very dark! If you increase the Direct and Ambient light too much, it will reduce the cloud and volumetric fog visibility as those layers rely on contrasts. Ultimately, try adjustments until you are happy, but be aware the intended atmosphere is dark, moody and at times oppressive requiring you to take shelter from the storms.
Adjusting ENB is no more complicated than adjusting the brightness in a game menu, its just way more powerful / more options. Here's how to make it perfect for you:
Open the ENB Console with 'shift+enter'
In the lower left box, expand the 'Environment' tab by clicking the '+' symbol.
Locate the setting, 6th from the top 'DirectLightingIntensityNight'
Increase to increase brightness, you can afford to increase this in single digits, eg from 1.00 to 2.00 to 3.00, etc. 10.00 is a BiG jump.
Once you're happy with it, you can fine tune using the + and - next to the number.
You might wish to adjust the 'AmbientLightingIntensityNight', found much further down the list under Environment. If you increase the Direct light above, too much, it will create stark shadows which can look strange. Increasing Ambient will add light to the shadows, reducing it will make the shadows darker. I found a goo balance to be 2:1 favouring Direct Light. Its worth taking the time to get the balance right for you and your monitor setup. Have a tinker, no harm done!
'CloudIntensityNight' is also very worth while, for some stunning cloud visuals during the storms. This can be found under the Sky options quite far down the list. Note however, you only want to make small adjustments here for a large visual effect. I prefer 1.15. I suggest using the + and - buttons rather than whole numbers.
You can even do the same for ' DirectLightingIntensityInterior' to effect the lighting on interior locations.
Adjusting these values will only alter the lighting at 'Night', so its a great and easy way to make the overall light to suit your taste, exactly. And you can do the same for Day, Dawn and Dusk if you want.
Finally, if you find it becomes too bright too early at Dawn, or too dark too soon at Dusk...be sure to check the 'Time of Day' menu. There you an adjust the switch ENB makes between Night > Dawn > Day > Dusk. As True Storms offers 2 options for sunrise and sunset, setting this should match your choice in True Storms.
This is the power of ENB, don't be afraid to use it to craft your experience. There are lots of settings, which can be daunting. However, you cannot break your game or saves this way, so no worries there. You can always revert back to either your previous setting by clicking 'Load' at the top, or revert back to the downloaded settings.
Be sure to click 'save configuration' at the top of the ENB window, once your happy, and shift-enter to close the ENB window. You can always go back later to make adjustments.
Wow..I don't know how the hell I missed this but you did one heck of a job getting this to mesh perfect with both ENB and True Storms and for this I thank you
Will this work in Nuka World and Far Harbor? I've been using a nifty little mod called "RealisticLighting" (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10607) as it made the night time the absolute most realistic I've seen. I've tried Vivid Weathers and Darker Nights and hated the unrealistic night time in both of them. I tried RealisticLighting and love it. Only problem is that the author seems to have abandoned it so it does not work in Nuka-World or Far Harbor. This looks VERY close to it so I am hoping this will work in both DLC areas.
I am put off by the fact that as soon as I installed ENB, the game loaded fine but my framerate immediately locked to 60, when I'm used to 100. 100 is the fps I go with because it seems to be the happy medium where I don't run into voice actor lip sync issues or issues with things moving too fast. But 60 fps lock on install? If there is no way to fix or tweak that then there is no way I can use this mod. Game looks too choppy at 60 fps, sorry to be an fps snob but going even from 144 to 100 was hard enough, going from 100+ to 60 is like going from driving independently to taking public transit again.
Your eyes are fantastic enough to be bothered by the difference between 144 and 100 fps, yet lack the acuity to decipher simple ini files or instruction of any kind.
considering that you think that the creation engine would allow you to even play on such a high fps is really mind blowing. The games engine at default is meant for 60 fps and maybe 75 at max but for you to complain about dropping below 100 fps tells me that you need to research fallout 4 modding before you actually start to install mods and then complain to the mod author about why his/her said mod doesn't work.
I can tell you how to patch it yourselves, it's really simple. Load the mod in FO4Edit, and you'll see "ImageSpaceAdapter". Collapse that tree and you'll see the offending edit - the LowHealthImod. Just remove the entire record via right click -> remove. It is unlikely the author will come back to this, which is a shame as judging by the stats, it's a very successful mod.
Hey, thanks for this, kudos to you! I've never noticed this mod causing me any issues in all the time I've used it, but I did look into alternatives when I began reading that people had experienced issues.. but, none of the alternatives did what I wanted, so I came back to this. Now I can continue using it without concern, cheers!
And to anyone new to modding, this is incredibly easy as Rasikko said. If your plugins aren't showing in FO4EDIT, and If you use a program like MO2 (Mod Organizer 2), you'll have to run FO4EDIT through MO2. Simple as clicking the dropdown bar on the top right of MO2 (Most likely says F4SE), clicking <Edit...>, Then the plus icon in the top left. Navigate to where you installed FO4EDIT, and select the FO4EDIT.exe. Make sure "Start In" points to your Fallout 4 folder. (EX. E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4).
I've been using this for years with True Storms and have always been happy with the results... never really got into ENB use as the first time I tried it out I was having issues (but it's been 4 years and I don't really remember what they were lmao ). So I tried again, using the recommended v0.307 along with the latest TStorms and Nights I had some initial issues (see my full post on the Subtle ENB page if you're interested) with DoF and the ENB settings working properly. I started out using the Subtle recommended v0.291 before updating it, which seems to have been the issue (along with not having the environment settings in ENB due to how it was installed via the Subtle author's instructions). Everything works fine now that I've updated ENB, if anyone thinks they might be experiencing the same issue check my post over there for what I did to fix it. This looks even better with Subtle added, thanks again for this great setup. My nights are truly a creepy experience using these.
Hey, I see you're a pretty frequent user but I've been at this for a couple days in trying to disable the DoF as well. I'm currently using the Storywealth collection, with some tweaks for True Nights and Subtle ENB.
Subtle ENB 0.9.3c NoDOF - Starlit Nights-5885-0-9-3c is the one I'm using, and I have v.307's enbseries.ini and the enblocal.ini from it. Then the sweet fx folder I have from Subtle ENB's. Yet in game I still have DoF blurs on things when I aim in and such. I'm also using the DoF Removal v0.4 mod like you were.
I even added the recommended possible patch for 3rd person DoF removal | (adds camera settings to the Fallout4_default.ini) but I'm struggling.
Far as I know there's only the one setting in the ENB window when you open it up, turns out it's not disabled by default with this setup and overrides the no-DoF mods. Just open your settings window in-game and look for the bits in my screenshot. This is what mine is set on at the moment using The Enhancer ENB on top of the True Storms/Nights setup. I'm still using the DoF Removal mod, also using the latest ENB release rather than the outdated ones listed on the various pages here. With the settings as below I don't notice the DoF, though TBH I keep the scroll-lock hotkey turned off to disable effects more often than not, I prefer the crispness of the disabled look while using Color Correction and Cannabis Commonwealth (the color enhancement from certain Cannabis strains is my favorite part of the mod). The main reason I use The Enhancer is for certain light effects while in stealth and using night vision mods like WTTO, to avoid light blinding yourself. If you want to get rid of DoF altogether just disable EnableDepthOfField, leave Global active (it's currently disabled in my screenshot per being toggled off via hotkey), and the DoF part on the right you can ignore as it's merely the style reference (the setting in my screen is a nice mild effect when effects are toggled on). I'm no expert with ENB related stuff but this setup still works great for me on a fully updated install using Mod Organizer 2 running 650ish mods, if you need more help/info you can inbox me. I also have a list of great mods on the Nexus for enhancing various visuals in-game (like interior lights for example).
Hey sorry, I have this, true storms and the subtle enb installed, but cant figure out why " environment" wont show in the enb menu.. its just not there.. I am having trouble with like pitch black interiors and characters so i wanted to brighten things up
Any idea how to fix this Corrupted IMAD reference or remove it? I really want to use this mod as it actually makes the horizon dark at night instead of having that ridiculous blue hue. Maybe there is another mod or way to get rid of the blue hue horizon at night time?
I really like this mod, as well. But there mod author has not updated it since 2016 so not holding out much hope. If some else could patch it and remove the IMAD reference it would be great.
I've used this in multiple play throughs every since it came out and have never had a problem. To be honest, I've used a number of the mods on the Buffout 4 page without a problem also. Not to say that what they are saying is false, I've just not seen any impact on my games.
played several hundred hours with this mod with almost zero crashes. Started using different darkness mods for whatever reason. Time passed, hardware/software changed, I crash lots. Blaming one record in this mod for all your problems is a typical nexus trope.
...and with some adjustments to nvidia settings... back to zero crashes in quite a while. The game is more stable than the past couple, but still fickle as F...
The only way is to go into xedit and delete the offending record. I can’t do much to fix it because I would have to reupload the entire ESP. It is fairly straight forward though. Load up FO4edit Make sure true nights esp is the only one selected. hit ok and it should load On the left hand side you should see all the master files and true nights at the bottom Expand the esp by clicking the + sign find “imagespaceadaptor” and expand that delete “lowhealthimod” by right clicking and then selecting “remove” hit save and you are done!
(I copy-pasted this from what the author of the "True Sight - ENB preset for True Storms with True nights." mod (SpringHeelJon) said to someone who asked the same thing. Cheers brahs)
I was not able to do the manual drag and drop method it didn't work so I will have to delete as well. Does anyone know what this record actually does? What visual changes will happen if lowhealthmod is deleted?
some customization questions. It wa a bit too dark for me so I went to tweaking with the Subtle ENB and followed MOD authors suggestion
loaded clear weather, waited until midnight, saved the game.
tweaked > DirectLightingIntensityNight = 3 tweaked > AmbientLightingIntensityNight = 6 (this made everything bright and colorful) (I think this setting is wrong or I have some sort of mod problem)
as per too dark/too light tutorial on 1st page "As example, my smart TV settings look like this: Sky menu > CloudIntensityNight = 1.15 Environment menu > AmbientLightingIntensityNight = 9 > DirectLightingIntensityNight = 4.5"
is this a mistake, and it's supposed to say > AmbientLightingIntensityNight = 4.5 & > DirectLightingIntensityNight = 9 (swapped values)?
It's really going to depend on your monitor and preferences, but I've tried with and without Subtle ENB and my settings are basically the same each way.
Direct Lighting Night: 6 Ambient Lighting Night: 1.5
When you increase the Direct Lighting Night you will get those stark black shadows, and then you slowly bump up the Ambient Light Night to bring back some of the detail you can see in the shadows. So yes, the description is probably reversed of what the author meant.

this.. thanks a lot for the info. I also thought it was the other way around. thank you
