    It's a tiny change but it's much appreciated 🙏
Also, this got me looking into Fallout's 5mmin general and came across this fairly convincing argument for the 5.56x30mm cartridge as the real McCoy - I don't know what this means for the casings in the minigun belt, but there you have it

I don't think we need a real-life counterpart to accept that 5mm is supposed to be a smaller round with less recoil than 5.56mm. Still, thanks for sharing, it is indeed a convincing headcanon and I quite like how 5.56x30mm looks so I might make another alternative mesh sometime. Also regarding the Fo4 minigun's ammo size, I'll take continuity with previous games over specific in-game models/textures any day, (which can be limited by design choices or even simple indifference) so to me FO4's minigun, in the universe, is either a smaller 5mm minigun with artistic liberty or 7.62x51mm minigun with 5mm slapped on as ammo just for gameplay and continuity sake. Both are unsatisfying because the magic and immersion that comes from the premise of what I see on screen exists the same way in Fallout's world, is gone.

I combined this mod's cartridge remesh with the retexture from the mod "5mm to 5.24x43mm." I rate the immersion as 1500 / 1500 Joules of muzzle energy.

Its clearly a mistake, thanks for fixing.

To me the 5mm In game is something like a 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum, more likely some sort of fictional round created specifically for miniguns and rifles

wym "To me the 5mm In game is something like a 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum"

its literally supposed to be 7.62x51 but they have no idea what 9mm even is so they thought a round smaller than a friggin 308 was the size of a friggin .50 cal

its 7.62x51mm. Literally written yellow on green, only reason its named otherwise is simply, regular bethesda incompetency

Bethesda has some made some very questionable decisions, sure, but we have to make some headcannon to explain the gameplay.
In every single fallout so far, the 5mm ammo has a lower damage profile than any other rifle round, to a great extent.

      We can either:
1 - accept the lower damage profile and headcannon in a smaller round and discard the texture/models as mistakes
2 - consider the texture/models and see it as 7,62×51mm, which will require changing the damage profiles if you care about accuracy, which I do.

I just decided to headcannon in a fictional round, which is why I said, to me, its like fictional 5mm round specifically made for the handheld miniguns.

Plus, mandatory mods like True Damage make the same considerations, so I adopted that. But I wouldnt be against fixing it so the 5mm ammo has a higher damage profile comparable to the .308

I made the necked-down version for this specific reason. I agree that it's supposed to be 7.62x51 NATO, but 5mm was always part of the Fallout universe with its own lore, so Beth must not have wanted to break the 'tradition'. They don't know s#*! about guns, yes, but they--or at least one of them--seem to know enough to word it as "5" mm 7.62x51 on the texture like it's some kind of nickname, which means they recognized calling it 5mm doesn't make any sense. Simply renaming it to a 7.62 round would've created confusion after Nuka World's release(7.62 Soviet? maybe as a mod, but does it fit for the base game?), and "7.62x51" isn't an option as well since not even once the bullet length was addressed in Fallout's ammo naming. Changing the minigun's ammo to vanilla .308 isn't good either since 308 receivers and bolt action rifles use it as well, and the minigun would have even more terrible ammo efficiency without significant damage boost, but that would break a lot of weapon and enemy balancing (not to mention enemies with the minigun handing out 500 .308 rounds in bulk).
After seeing Pigness' comment I thought something like a wildcat version of 7.62 with a 5mm bullet that had been commercialized enough would satisfy both the name and actual in-game specification. The optional retexture file I made is for those who don't like seeing real-life ammo specifications in their game and not a nudge toward what my headcanon is.
They indeed made a lot of dumb mistakes for Fo4, but there's actually much more to think about before considering it as 'typical Bethesda bullshit'. Also if you just want 7.62x51 nato there are plenty of ammo addons or realistic name mods.

I use a mod which changes the 5-mm ammo to 7.62 mm NATO Caliber.

The devs aren't gun guys, the reason we end up with so much oddball stuff is mere indifference.

Nevertheless, improvement is welcome. Nice work!

Thanks to skibadaa's efforts we didn't have to endure "5mm" miniguns for very long.   :D

That's the original size comparison? Wtf Bethesda? 5mm barely smaller than .50 BMG and much larger than 7.62mm and 5.56mm.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised considering the gun designs (.45 ACP being used in a rifle length magazine for example).

They could just slap 308 or 556 models if they didn't want to do the extra work but nooo we HAVE to increase its size

This has bothered me to, I doubt it was done out of malicious intent or that the minigun was ever in anything but 5mm like you claim but whatever.
In my opinion 5mm might be a .308 case necked down to 5mm but that's just headfanon so it doesnt really matter.
Here's 5mm compared to .308 (which is dimensionally identical to 7.62 NATO), above, and the round on the minigun belt texture, below:

Oh wow I actually tried to make a necked-down version, but my problem was sticking with the original case size so it looked too weird. Now seeing the belt texture it def sounds convincing. Maybe I'll try again sometime.
