This is by far one of my favorite mods I've ever downloaded. Growing up in Appalachia meant I was raised at bluegrass festivals and we couldn't make it through a social gathering without whipping out a banjo. I recognized a lot of the bluegrass songs as big parts of my childhood, and this station has felt like home since I've moved to the city. I love Remy's commentary and the lore/interviews make it so much more immersive.
However, there were some songs I didn't recognize, and decided that I wanted to learn for the next festival. When I visited home this month, my grandma got a little jam together with two of her friends. When I asked if either of them knew "The Great Atomic Power", her one friend lit up, started talking about how "nobody plays the Louvin Brothers anymore!" and played it immediately. I don't know if you would be interested in seeing it at all, and by no meansis the song perfected, since this was our first night working on it, but they posted a little video on YouTube of us playing it together. I'll attach it here.
I just wanted to share that even though you may have just posted this as a fun little radio mod, you brought entire separate generations together, and made a young girl and a few old-timers very happy. Thank you!
The only issue I've had with this mod (and since nobody else has mentioned it then it might just be me) is that the dialogue seems to be a lot quieter than the music, and I'll often turn the radio up to hear the commentary/interviews and then get jumpscared by the beginning of a song. But that's almost a negligible issue since I already know all of the spoken lines.
Thank you for sharing this. I always enjoy seeing people enjoy my mods and being introduced to this older music, which is why I like making mods so much. Seeing people actually play the music in person is awesome.
Been loving both this & your Big Island Radio! The music selection is incredibly fitting & fun, the DJs (and guests!) have really good voice acting, and I especially like how you've written the dialogue. Their lines have me pretty intrigued about your vision for their settings, especially this one, and you've balanced out the humor really well too. With other radio mods (notably Brandoman's Old World Radio series) I feel like the DJs are written out to be too wacky & trying to be funny, and here I don't get that vibe even if Remy's a bit more "out there" than Coconut Willie. They're more down to earth and I appreciate it a lot!
Can't wait to hear more of your works! These radio mods are a huge treat.
I do love this station. I have to admit, the Bayou Wasteland has some interesting cultural drift going on... seriously, "Gladiatorial Combat"? I dropped my drink when that line came! (Thankfully, I hadn't opened it yet...)
so i just tried out the mod and um, i have not noticed any music or content, i chose to try the version that has the DJ dude, anyway i checked my in game settings to make sure the radio was working, all other stations worked but this one didn't have any audio, idk why.
Other users have said its likely an issue with the ba2 version. They have said using Backported Archive2 Support System with the mod may fix the problem.
Thank you very much for this excellent reply post !!!
I am playing Fallout London (FO4 1.10.163) and Radio Blue Bayou was silent. After installing your suggested mod Backported Archive2 Support System it now plays nicely in Ol' Blighty as well. Also for FOLON players using the backported Archive2: Delete the included MainMenu.swf file, otherwise you get Fallout4 menus..
Really loving this radio mod! Works great for NG, however the one thing I'm noticing is that it'll quickly play another song that had just played only a couple tracks previously, is this just how it works or is this something it shouldn't be doing? Endorsed!
There is variables to make sure songs are not repeated immediately after one another, but the max history for this is lower than most radios as any higher value can cause an endless loop during the themed blocks of music.
So I'm really enjoying this radio station for the game! I'm also interested in hearing the lore behind the ongoings in The Big Easy from Remy, because I'm working on the outlines for a Fallout TTRPG set in the Big Easy. Would you be willing to share what lore you've found/developed for this radio station?
I don't really have a lore document, so I recommend opening the mod in creation kit and exporting the dialogue of 00BlueBayouHost. All of the lore and worldbuilding for Orleans is in the host's dialogue, so that would be the best method of learning it all.
But to give a brief summary:
Spoiler:
Show
Post-war, New Orleans split into Old and New Orleans (Old consisting of the French Quarter and its flooded streets and New being constructed entirely post-war). The main crux of conflict in the Big Uncle nuclear bomb, stored in the Naval Air Station Joint Reserves Base, which has attracted many groups who seek to destroy/detonate it. New Orleans settlement is controlled and protected by the Saints, a brutal militia who attempt to push out these pilgrims to the bomb. These groups instead battle and attempt to enlarge their numbers in Old Orleans and elsewhere in Louisiana. Main factions are:
The Saints - post-war government and militia of New Orleans
The Engineering Corp - branch of the Saints with military origins who maintain the city
The Children of Atom - attracted to Orleans in mass by the Big Uncle bomb
The Born Again - a ghoul cult who view ghoulification as holy and participate in radioactive 'baptisms'
The Brotherhood of the Iron Crusaders - a fanatic offshoot of the Brotherhood of Steel who view metalwork as sacred
The Voodoo Men - an organized raider tribe in Old Orleans who practice spiritual rituals
That's the gist of it. The finer details are found mainly in the interviews and news in the mod.
free domain music is hard to come by, but some content is out there, it's just you really have to know where to find said music, like i just did a search for barbershop quartet music which is a very old fashioned kind of music, apparently there is some free domain music in that genre but it's specific to music created before 1923, so the music before that in this setting is free domain, but good luck finding all that music and categorized anywhere on the internet.
however AI generated music almost has no copyright issues because it's not really created by a person and instead by technology, and there are youtube channels creating all kinds of oldies style music all the time, yes they aren't really music from those time periods, but they are styled in that setting which makes copyright a bit free domain unless advertised as copyright, but most content doesn't have that stipulation from what i have seen.
You know what we need? An AI "old-style" music station voiced by an escaped Synth (Possibly the one you hear on Holotape at Bedford Station then personally escort for pickup for Old Man Stockton) who tells everyone about the history of the original pieces, including that half the stuff playing Pre-War was AI-generated stuff aping 1950s and early 1960s music since it was over a century after Cab Calloway!
(Sometimes you just have to tear the band-aid off...)
BlazeStryker this youtube channel for example does the AI stuff, mostly this channel tries to make good music based on the time period they chose, it's DooWop style music. https://www.youtube.com/@DooWopManiac23/videos
however there have also been examples of funny AI music lol, and man they are funny as hell and i'm not afraid to admit i'm a huge fan lol. https://www.youtube.com/@SusRecordsCEO/videos mostly sexual innuendo's music, and there is more funny music than there is serious AI music.
this is more low brow funny, but still worth listening to lol. https://www.youtube.com/@AIForTheCulture/videos
so there is serious AI music and then there is also funny AI music to choose from.
