Ever get annoyed that when Vertibirds start to crash they inexplicably start to tumble to the player, and will do so until they hit terrain? Me too. This (slightly janky) method stops that.

Vertibirds, when they hit zero health, enter into a deferred death state. They begin a tumbling animation and track to the player, the only way to stop them is to have them collide with geometry or wait out a timer (~4 seconds). As Vertibirds are usually really low to the ground, rarely are you saved by the explosion timeout.
It gets pretty annoying after a while. Especially if you're playing on Survival. I'd rather use a mod to make Vertibirds actually a threat, then have their most threatening aspect be a very game-y crash sequence.
By replacing one element of the Animation Event that governs the Vertibird crash sequence, Vertibirds now basically 'skip' the player-seeking crash movement and begin their explosion countdown.
Now, when Vertibirds hit zero health they catch fire, tilt to one side as if they were staggered, and detonate after a few seconds. Note that the explosion is still deadly if you're close to it. But now you can actually shoot them down with a tracking missile from far away without the Vertibird playing a reverse-uno card and tracking back to you (lol).
This method should be very compatible with other mods and saves, allowing you to turn it on and off at your leisure. It has been ESL marked.
