Great mod! For my own reasons, I prefer not to use the Unofficial Patch and just fix important problems like these on a case-by-case basis. This is exactly what I've been looking for. I've been playing this game for years and I usually just dealt with it but today was my first time running through the NON-BUGGED Vault 81 dungeon. Up until now, this quest has been way too hard and annoying (but necessary, since Curie is my favorite companion) but this fix turns it into a fun, but still intense, quest. I actually got to bring Dogmeat and Codsworth this time and they helped tremendously. I also got to activate the Protectron down there and let it do a lot of the heavy lifting without mysteriously getting the disease for no damn reason. This is the way the quest is meant to be played and this small mod makes such a huge difference.
just had to delete 24 hours of play coss of this cocked up bethesdas stupid lazy game, this is the fifth time iv lost games because bethesda dont do their job right. dont know how long i can keep playing this broken s#*!, last time i lost over 2000 hours of game play from day one of the game comeing out because it corrupted every part of my game files. no idea wot did it but the fix was delete everything start again . then stupid crap like mole rat infection makes me lose a hole nights play and im loseing saves now , so i couldnt just go back to entering the vault i had to go back to me strarting the game that day. sorry thanks for this mod hope it works
how the hell can i catch this stupid thing when in full t160 power amour but i did i did have rats trying to cheew on me but i wasnt hurt at all so how do i get rid of this without letting the kid die or going back to an old save before going through the vault
Now hopefully this still works with 1.3.47 .. since it broke so many other mods. very tempted to go back, but there's still live release coming and if this is any indication of live we'll have to work with it anyway.
In wonderful iD fashion, the player is scripted to get the disease regardless. I repeatedly ran the quest one night to see and sure enough, even with killing the molerats long before they ever had the chance to do any damage to anything, my character got the disease.
I did it 2 days ago. With a 44, bottlecap mines and lots of psychobuff and buffjet, I one shot all of them without them hitting my companion or my character (survival difficulty). I never got infected. I've seen others report the same, I followed their advice. It's possible not to contract the disease.
I know for a fact if your companion gets hit, you can contract the disease, I saw it happen before I subsequently quickloaded.
I also heard that if you let the protectron out to patrol and it gets hit (which it will), that also gives you the disease (unverified). I did not chance it, I let the protectron out and killed it myself before it went anywhere.
It's the script that is associated with the Give Disease effect, which triggers whenever a Vault 81 Mole Rat attacks. I can't be 100% sure since I had to manually interpret the hexcode myself (yes, seriously), but it definitely applies a perk and an alchemy item to a specific reference directly, REGARDLESS of who the effect hits. That's not cool.
Fun fact: if you somehow get a normal Mole Rat into the hidden section of Vault 81 it will be able to give you the disease as well. I dunno if anybody has a Mole Rat companion mod, but if you do DON'T go to Vault 81 without this fix.
