I just tried those ini tweaks and while they are very good (thank you ), the screen in PA is still a bit low contrast, but with this mod (now fixed and working great BTW @spanian77), the screen is even better! Edit: pictures tell a thousand words etc:
Thanks + kudo for spanian7 and Teo. Mod and ini settings solve the bright map. I've still the DefUI PipBoy text visibility issue, anyone has a tweak to apply the black background to all PipBoy categories to fix it ?
Thank you for this fix, Teo265! This comment should be sticky too. For me personally, this mod doesn't work, but adding those lines fixed everything. As they say, YMMV.
I'm pasting the updated settings below. I'm a mouse+keyboard user but I've heard that "Gamepad" users shouldn't increase the Pip-Boy screen resolution since it's known to locks the cursor in the corner of the Pip-Boy screen, might remember it wrong but I'll mention it anyway. (Edit: Use BethINI from Nexus, great tool for optimizing, editing and customizing your .ini settings, it also stores old .ini's in a backup folder) [Display] fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensity=0 fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensityPA=0 fPipboyScreenEmitIntensity=1 fPipboyScreenEmitIntensityPA=1 fPipboyScreenGlassDepth=0 fPipboyScreenGlassDepth_PowerArmor=0 fPipboyScreenRefractionStrength=0 fPipboyScreenRefractionStrength_PowerArmor=0
uPipboyTargetHeight=1400 uPipboyTargetWidth=1752
[Pipboy] bPipboyDisableFX=1
Important Notes on Pipboy resolution and Pipboy screen FX: - "uPipboyTarget.." at twice vanilla values is known to cause mentioned cursor bug while using a gamepad. - "bPipboyDisableFX=1" makes the screen clear by disabling the blur/noice and digital effect on the screen, without causing mentioned cursor bug since the resolution remains vanilla. Leaving the FX enabled may feel more immersive if it's a replaceable texture and there's a 2k/4k PipboyFX texture available (Haven't checked yet)
The mod didn't make any changes to my pipboy in power armour, even on a fresh install with no other mods enabled / the ini changes mentioned in another comment made no difference either.
I have tried placing the changes in my Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Custom.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini to no avail and the mod was installed using Mod Organiser 2 / all the necessary files are archive invalidated and with no spelling mistakes in any of the ini text lines.
Posting this as a reply so it's distinct from my original post / anyone else experiencing this issue simply check your files are't set to read only. I changed this purely as a complete guess and it worked instantly.
This mod was just what I was looking for, but I'm also looking for a mod that take's away your location needle. I like the idea of not knowing your exact location on the map, and having to find out where you are by what you can see. Does anybody know of a mod that does this?
They do make a huge difference, all you have to do is place the proper parameters in their place. In this case they should be placed under [Display] section of the Fallout4.ini. They still work for me and my friend. For the mod itself to work you'll have to have the archive invalidation active. The DisableFX tweak helps a ton aswell. Read the mod description.
PS. I'm aware that this comment is very old and you may not be here to read this, but hopefully other people who have problems will.

Please share your words about it so more people should know about it and use it so they will be free of over bright PA's map!

what teo's comment should look like
EDIT: i should have clarified, my problem was just not the brightness. it was actually resolution
in Fallout4Prefs.ini find these lines:
uPipboyTargetHeight=700
uPipboyTargetWidth=876
and edit the values
uPipboyTargetHeight=1400
uPipboyTargetWidth=1752
screen resolution since it's known to locks the cursor in the corner of the Pip-Boy screen, might remember it wrong but I'll mention it anyway.

Will slightly misalign terminal text. Not enough to affect reading, but just putting it out there.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hoping for an update soon!
