Shouldn't we just count the number of kills at the end? I brought a bunch of friends and used mod weapons for them, but I was the only one using vanilla weapons... I killed more than a hundred of them, but my skill level didn't increase.
Great concept with this mod and Weapon Specialization. There was a similar mod for Battletech for mechs and each rank gave a different bonus each. I was wondering if you could implement something similar instead of just damage output (sort of an expanded Vanilla Perk system).
Also, saw others also asking for modded weapons, keywords instead of actual weapons, etc. Keywords probably would be fastest, specially for patching, but a little broad (like Gunrunner66 mentioned).
I currently have S7 in my playthrough and I can see that level-up system plus this mod would make a fun run. It would feel worthwhile to keep using the same set of weapons, or weapon types, and something similar to irl practicing with such weapons. You get more accurate, you get faster in aiming, reloading, etc.
Maybe...change the ammo type to provide a damage bonus? If you use the type of firearm, you have to consider the issue of customization. If you use the same ammunition, you won’t have to worry about it at all, unless you use original ammunition.
Interesting idea. However, I use almost 100% mod weapons, so this won't do me much good. Now, if you used weapon keywords instead of individual weapons, we'd be cooking. Cons to that would be, it could be too broad-based. I can see the advantage to specializing in this particular gun, over that class of arm, but again, won't work for me.
Maybe use keywords but increase the amount of kills one needed to gain proficiency? Perhaps double the proficiency ceiling? I could think of a few ways to balance it.
For the moment there are only perks for the vanilla and DLC weapons. Custom weapons would need custom patches. The overall damage increase from maxing out included weapons should apply to custom weapons, though.
This looks like a cool idea, though i wonder if it's just damage or if it should include accuracy and range? And also if there would be an optional pipboy tab option?

really cool idea! +55% bonus for maxxing out a weapon sounds like a lot but 500 kills doesn't come quick. gonna have a play around with this :D
