Robots don't even have genders. But for some reason, these Fallout games make certain genders represent certain robots. Like, Mr. Handys are male, Miss Nannys are femalw, sentry bots are male, assaultrons are female. But I don't think protrectrons and robobrains represent any gender.
It's a different setting, but if I recall correctly in Star Wars (legends at least) droids have masculine or feminine programming. Not sure how a random assault robot got female instead of male, but who knows
they very much do! personally i like the idea of assaultrons being feminine. while the idea of robots having genders does seem silly, when you really think about it, it's not. Mr.Handy's are essentially your average butler. Mr. Gutsy is that hard ass 5 star General. Miss Nanny is not only a nurse but she's a caretaker, something a Mr. Handy can do, but not very well. If Codsworth was a miss nanny, you wouldn't have had to worry bout little shaun crying for attention.
and here i am nerding out over this good conversation piece though.
You hit the nail on the head The whole point of "robot genders" is to fit the whole early 1900's american stereotype "futuristic" technology trope and yada yada that the entirety of Fallout is based off of
lol, idk why you act like it's a dated thing... If I made a robot today, it would naturally be given a gender fairly early, depending on it's purpose. This usually comes about almost immediately, because very few genderless (robotic) voices are tolerable, and secondly because contrary to popular belief contrived from political mainstream television programming, actual gender confused people only make up a very small % of population. The vast majority of people naturally associate voice tones with gender, and various roles as being traditionally gender based, or at the least, have preferences about them. Of course you can perceive and assign these things however you like as the creator, but if you make a robot have a female voice, I will assume you were gearing it toward female. This is the exact reason so many people assume that kleo was a crack at transgendered people, because they have presumptions about voices and attitudes in relation to gender.
Kleo is almost the exact opposite of a transgendered person in that because or unless her programming was altered or tampered, then, we can only assume that since she has no ...parts or functionality relating to sexual activity, she made a decision about what gender she ought to be, based on how she appeared to be physically modeled in the form of a female. Obviously in 200 years she would have encountered both masculine and feminine men women, and realized that anyone physically or mentally capable can do any task, so what else would she go by?
Unfortunately for her, her voice modulation does not match the physique. I imagine the military thought it would be embarrassing for the enemy to get slaughtered by a bunch of female looking robots, but couldn't be bothered to alter the voice modulators because time is money, OR, these were originally designed as a more humanoid, even female-esque service droid, but due to the war, the design war quickly retrofitted for war, and some general said the original voices were "too girly" so they all got deeper voice modulation. So in that case, kleo actually had the sense to realize she was designed as a "female," whereas transgenders deny their design. Total opposites.
The question here is how and why the robots which are more simply designed than synths are actually abandoning their programming. This is also clean in Curie, who knows you aren't vault-tec. and doesn't care, doesn't care about procedure or Hippocratic oath, yet it appears that the programming is physically restraining her, as she actively tries to get around it. Apparently, the personality programming is conflicting with the basic programming. It appears, much like so many scifi movies, that the machines, over time, begin interpreting information differently than desired, and begin trying to rationalize around their restrictions... That is actually the purpose. Not the gender issue so much. It's the same theme for the whole ordeal with the synths, and the assistant in diamond city... some of the machines are evolving beyond their intended functionality. Evolution itself is a huge theme in fallout. It's just being applied to the robots this way. Electronics/computers/robots are essentially just various, limited silicon life forms. They simply are not self aware yet, that we know of. You can say that they aren't because they can be programmed, turned off, or whatever, but biological entities all require fuel, can be programmed, and can be destroyed and even shut down. The only difference is self awareness, and perhaps more importantly, the ability to adapt or learn, rewriting its own code. That's all thinking and learning is, really.
And come to think of it, it would probably be easier to give a robot a womb, then a male human... We've made artificial wombs for sharks, we'll probably have them for mammals very soon, so technically machines have already successfully been more woman than any transgender has...
Don't be transphobic, folks. 2016 was a different time for sure, damn "technically machines have already successfully been more woman than any transgender has." That's a yikes from me.
the term is transgender, "Sexual" refers to an attraction to, so it doesn't make gramatical sense, and more importantly, trans women are women because they say so.
Gender is an identity, sex is biology. Robots can have gender if they have AI, the sentience and intellectual capacity to self actualize. While a robot can't be "male" or "female" it can be "man" or "woman".
Not sure why you'd need to edit the Fallout esm, just convert it to an ESL (or better yet, flag it as one in XEdit). Don't even need to compact it if all it does is add the female flag.
KLEO is turned into the female race, instead of unique. This would mean if you have the perk that gets you better dialogue with females it should technically work with KLEO
