I think I can make it for myself using your mod as a guide (so thanks for it!), but here goes anyway: just a dark plain background (maybe a slight gradient, or a low contrast blackboard texture), with light vertical divider lines (maybe tastefully dotted) but no horizontal ones.
You can definitely use this as a guide, although notice that there are 4 files. 2 of them are Overlay textures, which I have empty. If I have time, I will make some simple grids like you described here.
