Im curious, Is it possible to directly edit NPC height values from this mod for companions or regular NPC? I mean these are stored somewhere? I am aware of a "setscale" command, but its value sometimes resets.
Thank you. :) Changing the height of individual NPCs is currently not possible due to me not having found a way to do it efficiently. Maybe it's possible in the future.
The height of the player can't be changed currently, to keep compatibility with mods that do this already. Any slight changes shouldn't cause issues, though note that altered height may affect movement and animation speed.
Sweet. Will download this once robco patcher supports the next gen update. I downloaded so many mods requiring it and then realized that even with the 4.0 update, it still doesn't work with the NG update.
Yeah, the NG update screwed many, though you can still easily downgrade using the Simple Downgrader. It's currently recommended anyway, since the NG update is quite unstable, buggy and many mods don't support it.
NIce mod. Some random questions because I got curious: 1. Do you apply a bell curve so that most heights would fall around the average? 2. Would it be possible to make the same mod, but for character weight/build? (I don't know what it's called, but it's the triangle between skinny, bulky and muscular)
1. The mod uses the game's algorithm for height distribution, so I cannot completely tell which graph this would follow. From my testing, the game uses a simple randomization algorithm, maybe the Linear Congruential Generator. So there are no fancy calculations.
2. It would be possible to also randomize NPCs' weight, working similarly to the height randomization. Maybe I combine both features into one mod, either on this page, or upload it as a separate mod. If you want a mod like this for the player, you can check out Dynamic Body Weight.
Oh, I assume Papyrus doesn't have a bell curve function. It could be approximated if you calculated each height a number of times (for example, 3 samples), summed them, and divided by number of samples (3). This way the final value would usually tend towards the median rather than completely random. The higher the number of samples, the more numbers you get closer to the median and less outliers. This would be more similar to real life height variations, although I wonder if it would really help with the mod in terms of producing interesting results. I haven't played enough to judge the results yet. Thanks for taking your time.
Papyrus' math capabilities are almost non-existent, so I would need to implement everything on my own. Though since the game can already randomize the height, there's no need to reinvent the wheel.
I like the sound of this but it sounds a bit too basic. I mean does it just randomise anyone without consideration of gender? I mean women (not all women but as a rule) are still generally shorter than men, and I don't see it changing 200 years later in a post apocalypse. Is this adjustable possibly?
Yes, you can somewhat set a custom multiplier for males and females. I forget to re-add that to the description. See the config file under "F4SE/HeightRandomizer.ini" for more details.
not sure if this is relevant with this mod specifically but maybe its worth mentioning that i get massive suspended stacks with this mod when i try to save my game and insanely long load times, I'm on NG here running the latest GoE and TESObjectLoadedEvent is the event that gets spammed in case that helps
Yeah, it's a somewhat known issue and I don't think anything can be currently done, due to there being no filter functions for NPCs. I guess I will hide the mod soon until it has been resolved.
its a shame because i really love this mod, its such a simple change but it makes the world feel so much more immersive and different, thank you so much for putting effort forward towards this mod anyway

I'll have a look anyway.

For anyone having long save times, try Long Save Bug Fix.
I'm going to report this to their page.
Really like this mod sad its causing crashes for me ill use again whenever its more stable
Nvm issue on my side with vortex good mod 10/10
