I just released the new version of the texture as a new mod: Fatigues and Gunner Outfit Overhaul. Currently only the "base" version with the woodlands pattern shown below, but more will follow.
I made a separate mod as it contains a lot more as just the fatigues. Including recipes for the chemstation!
Pretty much finished on the new texture variants (from new to dirty & damaged in 5 steps):
The green comes from a fully green layer sampled from the original. Now I simply need to swap that layer for a camo version to get it to look like this:
I added a "US Army" patch, and a lore friendly flag patch on both arms. Although I'll add it only to some of them. (maybe both with and without) 2 new pockets on the arms ("sampled" from Ronnies (a.k.a. Military Fatigues)) a bunch of cuts (hard to see here, those too where sampled from Ronnies) and a bunch of holes. Took the bottom part of the boots from Ronnies too.
This one comes with new nifs, as I modified the UV's for all, to have 2 separate arms & legs. This however only affects the regular & dirty version (so you need to choose 2 out of those 5) but not the decayed version as that involves a different nif, which also uses material swaps, so I can't use the new texture on it.
Still have some work to do before releasing. Currently I already have 12 diffuse* maps to create for each camo type. Still need to do the decayed helmet and improve Ronnies, if I want to add those to the next version. Then there are 3 new normals & speculars to go with all those. (1 set for damaged, 1 for decayed and 1 for the rest). Still need to finish the specular for the new damaged version.
* = This currently includes 6 'variants' (to be created) + the decayed & the helmet. Next to that there are 4 textures as a bonus as well (I'm keeping it a surprise as to what those are, for now) ;)
Only finished 5 out of 20 sofar, but I only need to drop the various camolayers in place and set all the colors (boots, belt, buttons, shirt) for the most part.
Just uploaded version 3. This time it includes all the decayed(/dirty) versions. I reworked the bootstraps to look way better. Moved all the seams to the UV edge. This does make 'm look a bit more 'straight', but it prevents weird seams from the texture. That also means new Normal & Specular maps, for both the ArmyFatigues & the ArmyFatiguesdecayed
I haven't had time yet to redo the previews, I'll work on those soon.
Meanwhile I've already been going one step beyond:
I just couldn't stand it that there's just one leg and arm piece used on both sides. So, I adjusted the UV's (for the female model only currently) and created a brand new texture set. ;)
Still needs a lot of work to create all the variants, adjust the UV's etc. As it requires the adjusted nif files as well, I might make it a separate mod, instead of a version 4.
Just updated, looks awesome. DirtyHelmet update would be sick. One thing I'd love to see added, maybe for a future update down the road, patches hehe. Think having [US ARMY] just above the left pocket would be dope. Lovely work!
I'm still in doubt about what to do with the 'decayed helmet'. Still need to even find one! Since testing and running around with the fatigues, I was looking for skeletons and ghouls wearing it. Found a few skeletons here and there after a while and noticed all the helmets laying around where my re-textured one. Not the 'decayed' version. Might need to use CK to actually locate it in the game-world.
Patches and stuff already crossed my mind (as well as additional gear and even contemplating a : FullMetalJacket helmet :P ) But that would require changing the models (same for the boots.I hate those gaiters, but they come with the model) ...and I have close to 0 experience and knowledge on modeling clothing for FO4
I find that the gunners usually tend to use the dirtyhelmet alot. The dirty fatigues I've noticed a few wearing so that's awesome, they look more sharp now with that on.
Patches would be sick, lore friendly would be an added bonus. Fullmetaljacket helmet would be sick!
Any thoughts to what you'll do with the regular Military Fatigues? The Army Fatigues look awesome, and the Dirty ones look dope.
Been working on a copy of MacCready's cap as well: (still a WIP)
Took the model & created a new 2k texture for just the cap, as it is originally a (small) part of MacCready's outfit texture. ...and in this case I didn't want to change that one, and only have MacCready wear it. So this will have to be a 'constructable item' at the chemstation or something like that. If/when finished.
Oh thats looking good bro! Did have a thought, maybe some dry blood hehe.
Oh that hat is sick, I actually love that hat. Its perfect for the Marine look. So the hat you're doing up will be able to craft it and possibly change its appearance because that be dope.
Interesting and of course far better compared to the first generation texture. Now, could you add some of the bushes (more brownish) as well as a texture replacer for the camo fatigues?
Some more notes, all of the camo textures IRL are based on IRL pattern ... now why not use F4 vanilla texturess for camo (digi) pattern only? It would be far more immersive. Like some urban camo pattern with real street, asphalt, concrete, brick camo?! ;)
I like it a lot myself and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Did the helmet too obviously, but as you can see in the screencap, i've been working on more, like a cap, bandana & the 'military fatigue' (= Ronnies uniform, not shown).
Used MacCready's cap for the model, but as the texture is part of the entire outfit I just finished cutting it loose and scaling it to a separate 2k texture.
Thinking about creating a separate mod for it all and add it to a lot more stuff.
I might add the decayed version too next time. It appears that one is used for both the 'Dirty Fatigues' and the 'decayed' one used for (military) ferals & skeletons. I noticed they usually have the regular helmet near, not the decayed one, but still, I'll see if I can add that one as well sometime to complete the set.
Awesome, any chance we could see a dirty variant maybe even for the helmets? If not, no worries, thank you for doing all this. This is really great stuff!
The new look, looks good for the Army Fatigues, I was thinking in terms the same patterns you have but a dirty variant for the Dirty Army Fatigues hehe. The 4k looks really sharp, and I haven't seen much love for the Gunners which use the Dirty ones most of the time. But that would be sick if you could do full on Fatigue ensemble (Army Fatigues/Dirty Fatigues/Army Helmet/Dirty Army Helmet) :)
Actually there are 3. Well, 2,5 is more accurate. Whjen it comes to complete fatigues. There is the ArmyFatigues & the ArmyFatiguesdecayed, the latter being an almost completely transparent image, mostly used on ferals I believe. I'm currently using that one on top of my ArmyFatigues to get a bit of wear&tear in.
& there is a 'camouflage' version somewhere, which just looks dirty instead of camo. ...but I haven't found the actual texture for that one yet.
edit: Just found it: "Ronnie_Uniform_body". Comes with a baret too. Uses a different UV sadly, but I might add some camo to that one too, as I actually prefer it. (this one has 2 arms & 2 legs, instead of using 1 texture part for both) Even have a few 'military' settlements full of those already.
Oh wow I didn't honestly think about the feral's haha. So the outfit Ronnie Shaw wears is its own outfit, cool.
Army Fatigues Decayed would be the one I think best to go with same with Army Helmet and I would presume Army Helmet Decayed for additional textures, not that if you did up the other (Ronnie Shaw outfit) would do any harm hahaha.
Well, I might not. Not sure yet, but although I like it a bit more, in-game, it actually looks pretty bad & completely different from the fatigues when comparing the textures. Only the boots actually look better detailed.
Anyway, It does have a lot of usable 'damage' which I copied to my fatigues file (I have 1 Gimp file with many layers for all) together with bits from the decayed version that should allow me to give 'm a "used" look.
Would it be possible to add crafting of different patterns ability at the armor workbench? The different camos are really nice looking. Thank for you making and sharing this.
Excuse my ignorance: How do we counteract the misspelling of fatigues? Does it mean it will not work with a mod manager as it sits? The game has its own texture for fatigues too right? But spelled different. Should we just fix the spelling in the folder or? Do I need to merge this into the games fatigue folders?
I just deleted for a reinstall but the folder is still there?
Yeah, I goofed up a bit there. Will fix that in the near future. Should be "fatigues", but for some reason I keep typing fatgues *sigh* The i doesn't seam sticky though... Anyway, yes the folder should be corrected. However, that alone will not replace anything. You still need to rename the file you want to use.
Meanwhile I managed to make some serious improvement to my "wasteland Hunter" version & been adding a decay & dirt layer. Might tome some of 'm down a bit too.

Just a heads up. It wasn't working for me initially and then I realized you spelt the Fatigues folder wrong.
