Interestingly enough, while Preston was the obvious choice, he wasn't my first choice. If you look at the screen shots for the outfit mod, you'll notice that only the duster version has the Minutemen insignia on the chest piece. If both versions had the insignia, I would've used both outfits, giving one each to the two generic Minutemen who help take the Castle, as well as the two Minutemen who end up at Diamond City if you destroy the Institute with the Minutemen. I considered giving it to either Ronnie Shaw or the Radio Operator, too. Even Sgt. Hartfield (from Minutemen (Radiant) Squads) and Ben Gibson (from Recruit Ben Gibson) were in the picture at one point. Preston won out in the end, obviously, and the Radio Operator got a consolation prize, so all is well in Whoville.
He release Tumbajamba's Minutemen Marshal Outfits , maybe you can make another mod as an optional file that use that? IT actually looks more like an armored up Preston.
He included a replacer for Preston in the mod itself. I even joked about it in the comment section. I did mention that one of the Ranger outfits lacks the MM insignia on the chest piece. If he addresses that, I'll either make the Ranger Outfit mod I originally wanted to make, or I'll expand the idea further to include other MM outfits, too, and give unique outfits to all of the unique MM in the game (there are eight, but most don't have names). I'm not entirely sold on the expanded idea, though, since it would have a lot of required downloads, which often kills interest.
Well, if I do make the expanded version, it'll include some of Niero's outfits since most have MM skins and, fortunately, I already have permission to use his stuff in my mods.
Would this be possible for the retexture Preston Garvey Concept Art Outfit mod, where it doesn't overwrite the vanilla duster but is a unique outfit for Preston alone?
I don't know how to make outfit mods, but yeah, it could be made as a standalone outfit. From there, it is just a matter of telling Preston's outfit record to point to the new outfit instead of his original one.
If I remember correctly, Preston's Outfit was unique, but then one of the DLCs (or a game update) added it to the inventory of some vendors.
I would mostly like to see that particular retexture for Preston, which would allow other mods which add the duster to the Minutemen LL to use the vanilla texture.
So essentially the duster could be freely used in rotation for NPCs, but Preston would have a unique variant of it, so to speak.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to turn a retexture/replacer outfit into a standalone outfit. If the author (or someone else) turns that retexture/replacer version into a standalone outfit, though, swapping it with Preston's default outfit and then moving the default outfit to the MM leveled lists is doable.
I think We Are The Minutemen already moves the Colonial Duster to the MM leveled lists (albeit in blue), but I'm not entirely sure. WATM adds a lot of MM versions of other clothing. That outfit variety might be the thing I like most about the mod.
Another cool addition, Preston looks badass now! And damn, that radio guy looks funny somehow, can just read it on his face, like "Why am i wearing Preston's outfit?!" Hah!
Yeah, it is a solid outfit. The only thing I don't like about it is the stars on the hat (only generals wear stars). Would've liked to see the Minutemen insignia on the outfit's dusterless version, too.
As for the Radio Operator, he has his own dedicated outfit record, even if it just contains the standard MM outfit and hat, so I figured he was a good choice to receive Preston's vanilla outfit without having to worry about conflicts with other mods that tweak his NPC (Actor) record. But yeah, hopefully the "I don't feel comfortable wearing this suit" look on his face will go away once he starts broadcasting. ;-)
