Questions someone is probably going to ask at some point:
Q: Will this work with the next-gen update/pre-NG version of Fallout 4? A: I can confirm that this work with the latest version of the game. I haven't tested this particular version with the pre-NG version, but as far as I know there's nothing in the plugins that wouldn't work with older versions of the game as well. So yeah, you should be fine either way.
Q: What about compatibility? A: The only possible conflicts are with mods that edit the same records (in this case, MISC items) as Crapmaster. You can set it to load before/after the conflicting mod if needed.
Q: Is this balanced for Survival? A: Yup, I generally only play Survival so the mod has been thoroughly tested for it.
Q: Why "Crapmaster"? A: I meant to call it "Scrapmaster", but I accidentally mistyped a filename and thought "F**k it, that also fits".
I'm afraid that's somewhat out of the scope of this mod. That being said, cigarettes, cigars and many other small objects still have bartering value and/or can be used as Junk Jet ammunition even if they yield no components. Only destroyed magazines and books have no monetary value.
Oh OK. With the name of the mod I thought it would ad new items. Man was I pleasently suprised. Did you at least ad more cloth to the other items so it's at least somewhat ballanced and I don't have to scrap enough clothes that could "in theory" make a roof.
There are a few items that yield additional cloth, but it'll still far scarcer than in a unmodded game. If you end up needing larger amounts of it, you may have to compensate by purchasing junk items or shipments from merchants (both of which are generally cheap) or by scrapping settlement objects (or clothing, as you pointed out) to obtain it.
Some items were renamed to make them less confusing and more consistent (for example, Aluminum Tray was renamed to Lidless Food Tin since it's made out of steel)
Seems like an odd choice. Why not simply change scrap to aluminum or rename it Metal Tray and keep it steel?
It's mostly due to my own preference, but there are multiple other reasons: there's a very similar item named Empty Can that yields steel, plus I already renamed the Tray item to Aluminum Tray (not to mention preserving game balance, too).
Not to mention lifiting weights are either cast iron or steel - not lead. The reason they made them lead it they realized that if you required lead as a component - you needed a source for that component. Realism doesn't enter the equation since in reality one of the few sources of lead you'll find is in Flint, MI. water supply....
besides the times where you recognise an object that should contain a material you need, yet doesnt, are people bothered by the lack of realism in crafting? in books i like, i tend to make headcanon to distract from obvious plot holes. for crafting in FO4, it's so far from reality that i consider it an abstract necessity with themes for novel value. everything else is for balance.
After extensive research (12 seconds of Googling), it turns out you are in fact correct. You really do learn something new every day...
I'll correct my mistake in the description, but for balancing reasons I'll leave the mod as it is - Pre-War money is found in such large amounts in containers (you can find a duffle bag with 100 bundles as early as Lexington) and the game world that acquiring cloth is trivially easy in an unmodded game.
If you think about it realistically though, cloth should be fairly easy to come by even after a war takes out everyone. Literally every person wears clothing of some sort, so it makes sense why it's so abundant in the game. Not to mention, money. Most people are going to have some sort of cloth/paper money on them.
You're all assuming dollars in 2077 would be same as 2024. But if you study trends, US will likely go like Britain, Canada etc, not just because polymer is harder to fake but also more economical & eco-friendly. And in fact Fed Reserve experimented early with a hybrid semi-polymer $100 bill over a dozen years ago but had technical problems so didn't release it. Yet clearly the tech has since evolved.
And don't pipe up that common crap "but US bills are cloth & linen and more durable than other countries paper money" - FYI, long before Britain's recent move to polymer, its "paper" money was also cotton-linen - in fact many countries use such a mix for "paper" money. Anyway, prewar "paper" money would've fallen apart long before 2287 so to still be around it'd have to be advanced polymer.
Good mod. In case you're interested, this mod overrides some fixes made by UF4P and Community Fixes. If you want to incorporate them I recommend xedit to do so.
Did you have something particular in mind? This mod already fixes the numerous spelling errors/inconsistencies in the item names plus a few other issues, but I'm having hard time tracking down other bugs besides the Carlisle Typewriter physics bug.
Either way, I should probably add a list of bug fixes to the mod while I'm at it...

Were it edible, the world could probably run on nothing but rolls of it.

...so that means you'll add it back in right.
