Dear Sir / Madam / Other,

Had a crack at this Creation Kit, watched some online boffins and banged together a NEW VERSION:

It will create a LONDON CALLING BROADCAST RADIO station on your Pip-Boy to facilitate all this.
The music has been repackaged into 5 chunks - (which if you want to skip through tap 'E' twice to turn off and on channel on Pip-Boy, little tip found while debugging)

Dug deeper into the world of copyright free Public Domain tracks, so you will note the content has removed some of the AI filler - much to everyone's delight no doubt - but it does mean some tracks are a little more '60s' than '50s' I'm afraid, but needs must!

Thanks again for the ongoing support!

    Yours faithfully,
    Dave

Not too bad, volume seems a bit on the low side and the tracks seem to play through a bit quick for some reason. I do have OWR (Old World Radio-Boston) so that may be messing with things a bit. This mod does seem to make at least one station on OWR bug out, Civil Defense Radio becomes nothing but a heavily static mess. Just a minor issue all in all, but not a bad mod, fits things a bit. Also, if you think about it, the A.I. aspect fits in game because of the Synths. You could say, since this mod replaces the Institute's station, that this new station is run by a rogue Synth that, due to them being modeled after someone who loved this music/style, they made a radio station that overrode the Institute broadcast. Just they don't have a full grasp on the machinations of the music, so it doesn't come out as if made by human hands.

actually, I did have that idea of it being intentional as a narrative: I did grab a snippet from a radio play of one of my favourite Ray Bradbury short stories where a house talks to itself after an atomic war (its in Fallout 3 as an Easter Egg btw - There Will Come Soft Rains ) and I thought maybe there is an auto-bot somewhere running this radio station. :) in this case, the selection is deliberately disjointed and AI fits better..  so yes, the Institute does fit.
I mean, it is perhaps an excuse for me as well, but it's a nice take on AI content. :) - but thanks for the idea, yes the Institute would all be up for AI

and the main point: the volume I did deliberately mute and run through a filter to sound like a 1950s radio... I like the tin-can feel of it.
did I go too far perhaps? I tried to balance audio levels roughly with the outgoing classical tracks...

the mod is very basic and should just replace tracks in the data folder - as I am a newbie to all this - I've no idea why it would impact any other radio station at all...

again, this might be my inspiration to create a LONDON CALLING radio station through GECK itself... let me know if that might be better

I am new to all this, so replacing files and editing .dds artwork in GIMP is my level. But if this is causing mod compatibility issues, that is good to know. thanks

All good! That particular station isn't much of a loss, honestly, it is mainly a repeating distress type. The volume might be on my end, too, seeing as no one else seems to be having an issue on that front. Not a really big deal, easily fixed and that London Calling station sounds like a great idea! You could always keep both, one to follow the in game Fallout 4 theme (current mod) and the London Calling one you could always say is due to signals being picked up from across the pond. Another idea to add to London Calling, would be to find a way to get some voice lines recorded into it and you can even have the host reference Fallout: London, noting minor things such as there actually seems to be survivors and reports of activity, etc. A bit of a neat, yet unofficial, linking to Fallout: London, when we do get it. I understand that's a lot of work, though.

No worries about being new, everyone starts at the beginning at one point. I don't create mods, myself, so all I can truly do is give the user input. That said, having modded tons of radio stations and music into Cyberpunk before, I've heard much much worse that was done by human hands and not A.I.

Personally, this is a solid idea and attempt at things and hey, you have in the description all the reason you need for this project. Plus you can only get better at it from here!

wait, AI generated? really? huh, i should maybe try this, i have nothing against the use of AI, but i would like to hear some samples to see if it's something i want to try.

EDIT: i gave some of the songs a listen, and some sound really good, some not so much, but from what i have listened to, currently enjoying one called "Golden Rock'n'roll Swirl" on that site you provided.

it is scary what the AI model creates... for this mod I used it to generate about 12-15 60-90s long tracks which shortens the radio experience. but hey I hope it gives a flavour. Still torn about it however... contemplating for those tracks to simply restore the classical tracks, see how it plays.

this reminds me of a video i listened to a few weeks ago, the person on that youtube channel used AI voice singing, i think it was supposed to sound nat king cole, but it sounded more like Johnny Mathis voice, but maybe i just don't know because it was a Johnny Mathis song.

however i wasn't able to find that song for you, but i did find a list of covers and they don't actually sound that bad to be honest, that eleven labs is sounding better and better all the time.

oh my... crazy stuff...  thanks for the link: I mean the AI part is PD, but the songs would surely have rights... hmmm... you've inspired me to re-check the public domain marked tracks and see if I can do a bit of quality control on the ones I picked. thanks!

f*#@ AI music. AI has no intent therefore it means nothing.

I tend to agree, though think of it more a tool than an expression; used as thematic songs, they work to tie things together.

Please do not think I just pasted 29 AI tracks blindly, that's nowhere near the case :).

This is my second version of this mod, as I found out rather quickly including licensed tunes was a no-no, so its a compromise.
DM me if you would like to know more about the original.

      Thanks again for your interest.

some of the songs are not that great, but some sound good enough to pass as good building music in settlements.
i do feel like they need to be a bit more hard core in the 50s style rock area but it's okish sounding.

i don't hate AI, i have nothing against people using it like this or for giving the player some more voiced lines or added dialogue through the NPC's in the game, i hope more people use AI in this way actually.

i love experimentation when it comes down to this stuff.

how funny is that, you can't use real music due to copyright issues and you can't use AI because some people hate AI lol, it often feels as if there is no compromise with such things lol.

the thing about AI is it's not illegal to use and so long as your not using it to make money or scamming people i see nothing wrong with it.

it is literally a rock and hard place :)

the AI tracks are kinda cute.. and yes the 1950s feel should be more rock n roll... but it's the 1950s LONDON... so you've swing and skiffle etc... and with AI it all sorta ends up elevator music...  but I did play and got something passable. again my original playlist is here 1950s Radio Playlist (not my original mod I should hasten to add, as NM would ban me for linking that here, but you can DM me for details)

I MAY look to replace AI tracks with public domain tracks from things like Waybackmachine etc... but always good to hear feedback. Glad its a debate, and not a wall of silence :D - thanks again

The Computer is your Friend. Obey The Computer.

Aside from the inclusion of some AI aspects (a fraction of what I've put together here) please let me know what you guys think.

We could write a thesis on Art, but really all I worry about is the likelihood of anyone downloading this mod.
Give me some feedback and I can see if I need to amend the mod further.

Happy to discuss why I wrote this mod and the challenges I've encountered so far and the fate of the original version.

Thanks again for your continued interest.
