How do you disable gifts completely or have them automatically add them to your inventory instead?  I'm so sick of trying to dismiss my follower and instead I receieve a sweet roll, then I have to open the talk interface a second time just to dismiss them.  Every day I have to do this s#*! its so annoying.

Given that Codsey will always say that he is condensing water, is it possible to have him still giving water on top of the copper?

Please add Dogmeat to your list; it would be interesting to see both the 'explanation', and improved gifts, linked to this companion. Also, what of that heroic Minuteman that so many find annoying but that I don't?

been using this mod for awhile now and I really enjoy it the gift system in the base game wasn't very good and limited the usefulness of many companions in survival you did an awesome job on upgrading the gifts and I like that it scales with your level so its balanced really well and its a mod ill recommend to my friends who play fallout 4

Due to everyone's input 2.0 is now out.

Codsworth no longer gives ANY food his role is now something I feel is actually useful. He is now your builder buddy, he is meant to give things that help crafting and building. Including things like Copper, Steel, Adhesive and Aluminum at Level 5 and at level 30+ he can give an entire shipment of copper I asked around and people said these are the most useful supplies to have.

    Curie no longer gives ammo
Strong no longer gives a mini gun but his ammo was increased to 100 5mm rounds instead of 50
Hancock no longer gives Bobby Pins
Piper Now gives 3 Bobby Pins at level 1
X6 no longer gives laser rifles ( hopefully I will have good news soon on a replacement item everyone will like! )

Please continue providing input I read it all and take it into consideration for improvements, both good and negative feedback is welcomed!

I am still working on trying to figure out the rest of the companions, hopefully will have some news about them later this week.

Would love for Preston to give Fusion Cells. Constantly running out of those, and given their main weapon is the Laser Musket (notoriously ammo-hungry, especially end-game with tough enemies and a six-charge Musket) it'd be nice to get an extra supply.

Artillery Grenades would be a good starter item, as well as Minutemen Flares. Preston's a bit hard to work with, all things considered, but maybe the best thing for general stuff is either rare settlement crafting materials, or small shipments of basic stuff like wood and steel that you need all the time when doing mass settlement building.

This is great, but can you please add an optional file for Codsworth to give you cooked food and water?

I am not interested in the settlement building part of the game but I deeply enjoy adventuring and survival experiences. Thank you for this great mod!!

    *Takes a look*

While this sounds good, you have it the wrong way around with Codsworth, those vegetables are worth more for crafting if nothing else, and getting purified water is much better than getting pre-war food.

Strong giving you a minigun is a little odd, and would suck weight wise, but that's ok.
By the time you get X6-88 you'll already be swimming in those laser rifles, and since you don't need to repair them you don't need more (Also, they're worse than regular ones unless you mod the game), but they're good for parts at least.

That said, since I use Curie, I'll definately use this mod.

What would you suggest for Codsworth then? I tried giving them all unique and different items to give them a sense of personality. And from what the game introduces you to, he's the handyman housemaid.

I think he should just give you both food and scrap randomly, like gears screws etc

Yeah, I agree. It would make much more sense to mainly get junk and water from Codsworth, since he loves when you mod stuff anyways.

And while I'm here, Piper can be toned down. Her supplies she gives you seem a bit OP to me. I think the caps can be toned down by 50-80% and reduce the amount of Nuka Cherry she gives you by one. And maybe also get beer from her sometimes.
And I'd stick to just ammo from Strong and scrap the minigun.
And just stick to medical stuff from Curie. She is a healer, after all. And ammo is for Macready and X6 to give you.

As for Hancock, the drugs are fine, but the lockpicks should be gifts from Piper, especially if you want to make her like Elizabeth. And again, maybe tone it down. And I wouldn't call him a sadist, as he isn't psychopathic by any means. He's a good guy, but he's chaotic good, which is why I like him.

Other than that, this mod seems pretty good. I apologize if I sound nitpicky. Just trying to give constructive critisism and helpful hints and the like.

Since you mentioned that Codsworth would "Cook" for you I would have imagined he'd give you Cooked Commonwealth food. The stuff that doesn't have radiation, like Crispy Squirrel Bits, Mutt Chops, Grilled Radstag, etc...

@KevinZiggy See I thought about that, but hear is my conclusion for it. Codsworth hasn't moved in over 200+ years, he tends the same dead garden, same house, same everything he's only done what he knew/programmed to do pre-war. I thought about making it around level 25-30 he learns to cook those recipes because he has "experienced" the wasteland and knows more. Ultimately I decided not to because I couldn't figure out if it was lore-friendly for Robots to learn; Curie is an exception because she was specially built. As far as I know, Codsworth is just a regular ol Mr.Handy.

I'm all for changing it, just wanted to let you know why it is what it is.

@KGMeisenbacher I'll agree I should change Curie to pure healer, The minigun was mainly a joke because apparently all Super Mutants just know how to make one for some reason. The Piper thing seems balanced because I'm not sure how often they give you stuff ( because I can't find the setting to control it ) but it's not too often and you only get 1 item so it should be rewarding and not "oh boy... 10 caps, thanks Piper >_>" ) I could see adding lockpicks to her however. I'll make an update sometime tonight~ thanks for suggestions! keep em coming^_^

I think all robots can learn to a degree. Like that captain robot, all of its crew that doesn't agree with him. Curie was special in learning because one of the scientists treated her like a person otherwise, she was built just as a lab assistant.

"Surely you meant to leave that rubbish where you found it?"

-Codsworth on the collection of junk items

While the Mr. Handy model was designed to be a household robotic handyman, to assist the man of the house in his endeavors, Codsworth is more than just "a" Mr Handy. He has been around for quite some time, and even before the war, he had a clearly distinct personality already in place.

Codsworth is not your garage-dwelling Mr. Handy, he was a household servant. He cooked, he cleaned, he cared for an infant child. He was a cross between a manservant and a nanny. There was no indication he helped in the garage much, if at all.

In my humble opinion, trying to look at things from a logical, lore perspective that takes as much into account as possible - Codsworth's gift of purified water is exceptionally sensible. It's a simple item, but it assists the Sole Survivor in much the same capacity as he did before the war - by tending to the needs of his master.

An expansion on this is the right direction, not giving Codsworth a new "junk collector" personality. That is Ada's domain. She and Jackson collected as much junk as they could find, and Ada is pleased every time you collect random junk, materials, and parts. Leave Ada to dish out the junk and crafting materials. Codsworth's gifts of purified water and other high-quality non-irradiated and/or cooked consumables are the right way to go.

I recommend having a look at the Fallout 4 consumables list at: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_consumables

Sort by rads and look for pre-war consumables (you can click any pre-war foodstuff and on that food's wiki page, an ID will be listed for its pre-war "clean" version if applicable), fresh crops and other quality foods and such. Things that a good household servant would be proud to serve to his master. Afterall, Codsworth doesn't hand you dirty water. The implication is that he collects wasteland water and expends the effort to purify it for you so that you can enjoy quality drinking water unlike most of the Wasteland's inhabitants. Expand on this. Do not replace it. Codsworth should be gifting the player quality consumables that are otherwise rare. He is a loyal household servant, and a perfectionist. He would not and should not be giving you junk - he should offer nothing but the best.

This is a nice trade-off for his otherwise lackluster combat efficiency.

Keep him around and enjoy the company of a loyal servant that will routinely gift you the best the wasteland has to offer, or trade him out for a combat companion that could care less about quality, and more about gritty practicality.

      Here's my take:

Codsworth: Purified water, preserved pre-war foods (such as Preserved InstaMash, Perfectly Preserved Pie, Ribeye Steak ad the other preserved foodstuffs you can find in Vault 81/The Cabot house), and at a high level - Refreshing Beverage (the one that removes all addictions).

You could possibly add in unique foodstuffs based on wasteland foods like the noodles and soups that indicate they were made with fresh ingredients and purified water. Ex: "Freshly Made Noodles" - with a description indicating it was made with fresh, clean ingredients. Codworth knows how to cook, and that's not something you forget how to do, especially a robot. He could easily cook wasteland foods for you, but he would never do so, because they are disgustingly filthy. Instead, he would take pride in making clean foodstuffs for his master.

Curie: Non-Chem meds. In my opinion, you nailed this one. She's a medic, pretty simple.

Strong: Raw meat, creature leather/body parts, bones, melee weapons (with melee weapons being the higher-level gifts)

Strong is not a gift-giving companion, and the gifts he does give should reflect that. He is a practical companion for when you need to wreck things, not an item dispenser. His gifts need to reflect his brutal nature and *not* reflect the out-of-character needs of the player.

      Hancock: Chems and Alcohol.

Piper: Caps, bobby pins, 10mm pistols, 10mm ammo, molotovs, nuka-cola, heavy liquor alcohols.

X6: I think you nailed this one pretty well.

This is something so simple, but it's a fantastic idea. The gifts they gave before were so underwhelming, most of the time I didn't even have a companion because it didn't matter.

This sounds really interesting... My only problem is, with over 100 hours of Fallout 4 I have never once received a gift from a Companion, at least they never made a big deal about giving me something. Is there a conversation prompt or they simply slip it into your inventory?

Occasionally they'll say something off-handedly about it. Strong will mention he's found some meat, for instance, but it's easy to miss if you don't know they can give you stuff.
