Ok, i had some time to test a darker version of the background, remove and install the optional file instead of the main file if you need a darker background due to map viewing issues. Now this is not a 100% fix as in daylight in the game the background is still pretty bright, however in dark areas it is almost not visible, i tried to strike a healthy balance to border on still being visible so as to not make the mod pointless, however if it does conflict with your map viewing there really is no fix to not have it display just for map opening unless someone wants to create a script file which could handle this. Hopefully this new darker version will work for people
Sadly unless i do a rebuild to make it change backgrounds based upon what mode you are in on pipboy i dont think this is possible. Personally i use fallUI and its map mod and also i use https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7169 for my map i dont have this same issue as you. I could lower the images alpha to maybe make the map more viewable in its default state. This would make it less visible on all pages.
i am trying to work on a version that will not interfere with the map, however i cant just make pipboy not display a background while the map is open, at least not without creating a larger mod. I have tested several option and even uploaded a couple but so far nothing looks quite right for the tester i have checking them out. I have archived the tested images for now but will have something better later this evening
