For some reason I guess loose files overwrite archives even if they are lower in file load order, could be just me though.
This is to get this version updated before I eventually remake my own version of the armor. As I talked about in the comments, I would like to make a full quest mod inspired by the original Widow armor mod. With me making it from scratch (3d model and all) I will be able to make variants of the armor models. The remake will take time, and I would need to learn a lot to not make it feel lazily slapped into the world.
Cool update, nice to see people still showing love to the OG classics! The Widow has been essential to my load order since I first started playing FO4, along with the armor add-on. The new barrels and separation of the hood pieces are an especially nice touch. Just posted an update file to my Widow-PRL8 expansion that updates the Armor Add-on plugin for using these together. Also includes 4estGimp's Precombine Fix for the original Widow. Just had to fix a few FormIDs, the content is the same. I'll be posting another update with new ammo types in the near future as well.
My original intent (still in my mind, just focused on living right now lol) was to basically remaster the entire Black Widow armor set from scratch. Since DeserterX hasn’t been active in a couple years from what I can tell, I think it’s safe to build on and modernize it properly.
Eventually, I want to expand it into a full story-driven quest mod, maybe even something that feels like a mini-DLC. I’d need to learn more advanced Creation Kit scripting or possibly commission help from other modders to make the full vision happen, but the desire is 100% there.
One major idea I’ve had: the original Black Widow isn’t just a character with a tragic story—she’s become something more. A spirit, or maybe something mutated and twisted by the wasteland. You’d either become her vessel or work with her lingering consciousness, which would guide you on a brutal path of vengeance. You could embrace her legacy… or try to resist it. The goal is to give players real narrative weight in how they wear the armor—are you honoring her story, or being consumed by it?
The quest would revolve around a cult that worships arachnids—a faction the Widow and her partner once sought refuge with. But instead of safety, they were betrayed in horrific fashion. I want the betrayal to be personal, disturbing, and enough to justify the Widow’s descent into fury.
Gameplay-wise, I was even planning on a basic rage mechanic: the armor would empower the player during kill streaks or intense combat, feeding off adrenaline and emotion. Just a subtle layer, but something that makes the armor feel alive and reactive.
To give you a taste of what the tone might feel like, here’s a preview of some potential journal entries you could discover as part of the quest:
Journal Entry 1
We've finally found shelter.
The cult—they call themselves the Daughters of the Eight-Limbed Mother—took us in without question. They gave us food, a place to rest, even clean clothes. It’s strange, sure... the rituals, the way they chant in the dark, the way they all smile—but after what we’ve seen out there? Strange feels like a blessing.
He says we should leave soon. That something doesn’t feel right. But I’m tired of running. For the first time in weeks, I feel like I can sleep without a gun in my hand.
Just a few more days. That’s all. Then we’ll move on.
Together.
Journal Entry 12
(The paper is torn and warped, ink soaked and smudged from dried blood and tears. Words are etched over each other, barely legible in places.)
They lied.
It was never shelter. It was a harvest.
I watched them drag him into that hollow chamber, arms bound in silk and bone. They said he was chosen. That she would bless him. I screamed until my voice broke.
They smiled.
I’ll find a way. No matter what. No matter how.
I don’t care what god will take me. Or if I have to become one.
I will kill them all.
They took my world. Ended it—for what?
It doesn’t matter anymore. Nothing does.
I will kill every last one of them. Slowly. Beautifully.
edit: nvm somehow it works for me now. i picked loose files instead next gen archive when it asked me again after i reinstalled it. then i restore the widow shotgun esp and male black widow esp back to their original file (i was told to delete both of them but apparently it just works now?)
Yeah it's very odd working with archives and the loose files from the OG mod, which is why the pinned comment tells you to delete/disable those files. Could have been an error with not having the male files installed—missing files or incorrect file paths can lead to crashes. The gloves have also been a bug users have reported.
Appreciate that added a way to make own set, but I am 1 not really sure how to do it, and 2 not really that artistically talented aha. So if anybody sees this and thinks a Desert Ranger colour scheme would fit nicely and has the skill to do so, please give me a link :)
Looks good. I had stopped using these mods awhile back, but now you have me wanting to use them again. However, I think a little more separation with the outfit would have been cooler - like the jacket separate from the outfit, and even the boots separate, to make it 100% compatible with other piecemeal clothing mods.
I may take a crack at that myself. Thanks for inspiring me. P.S. - am thinking about just a 'two light' hood as well - the three-eyed thing was a little Lovecraftian for my tastes.
I went to Wildwood Cemetery, and i cant seem to find the chest with the armor in it anywhere? I was able to find the shotgun in its regular location in Concord, so im wondering if the armor has been moved?
Hey Where can I find the armor with the sleeves rolled down? For use without a pipboy (with a pippad type thing). I have been looking around for it, but can"t find it myself. Thanks for your time and Thanks for the mod.
Hey any chance of making a version with just the loose files? As the modpack storywealth was thinking about adding it but is only considering it because the download for the mod includes all the archive versions. Storywealth being a big modpack so ba2 slots are very limited. Would ya ever consider doing this?
I know, mostly just a separate download. Since users do get annoyed with big download sizes. The end product is 700ish MBs, but the zip file ends up being 3gb on peoples hard drives. And storywealth gets flak for radio mods being to big so a singular outfit being 3.2gb of file size causes some issues.
I cant find gloves I mean I do have gloves before I download this mod biut after I Installed this mod my gloves are gone and now i'm barehands but still have the jacket and hood (I've look at the chest where the armor was buried but IT's nothing there so god help me)
