This is a cool idea, as he does exist as a ghoul in the game. Maybe he blames the player as his last house to visit thus reason he got caught outside during the blast.
Nah even better, he's the one killing your husband/wife and steal your son, and he comes next to your cryochamber and says: "How does it feel to be the one who knocks?" Before refusing to elaborate and leaving.
One of the earlier Fallout games had Vault Dwellers open up their fancy door... and promptly get mowed down by Enclave in power armor. This is a nice shout-out.
