From what I’ve heard it’s a bullet sponge of a vicious beast that beats the everlasting crap out of seasoned players, but after looking at its stats, I’m skeptical. I think I’ve got a good shot but simultaneously Im uncertain of whether to go for it or not. Any help and/or advice regarding the matter would be exceptionally appreciated. /s
Is the 'Red Death' really big on survival mode,or something? I'm only on 'normal' or 'hard' and (spoiler) that critter just was not worth a mod involving that island(imo). But then I see that this was also a test(only a test) of the technical modding ability to create that 'Ya gotta row/walk/flap all the way back' effect. Now I'm curious about that size thing. The Mariner made it out to be some kind of sea monster,so...(and she said 'Red Death!' to the assembled harbor-people,and they all wailed, and gnashed their teeth.') Heh.
Nah, Red Death is just as tiny and cute on Survival. The entire quest is written around the mariner, far harbor, and building them up as characters and places. Is it a challenging fight with good loot? Not at all. But it's an interesting piece of storytelling.
As for why I made the mod, it was just because knowing you could fast travel away from the island mid-quest bugged me. Bethesda relied on enemies blocking fast travel to prevent it, which was kind of a moot point if Red Death is dead or you just walk to the other side of the island.
Just a little inconsistency that I patched out because it bugged me. Nothing more, nothing less.
Ya know,I agree. I find myself steering away from the 'magical' modifications to weapons(I use a legendaries mod,but apparently only in a limited sense),etc.. And,ultimately, the 'fast travel' is a defacto teleportation ability you gain from early-on. Defeats the whole gritty survival-is-hard aspect. I love F4 for the stories, though. ;)
Well, it should be unlikely anyone would fast-travel back given the quest update not only specifically tells you to sail back, but then a quest marker also appears above the boat's controls. Yet I guess some folks might mod to remove quest markers, or just not be paying attention.
Just a thought, place a map marker there and make the island into a settlement where you can build a secret Red Death training facility. So if you have "Blood Bank" quest going and get a blood sample you get the DNA of the Red Death and start a selective breeding program using other assorted captured mirelurks, thereafter you can have a reign of destruction with squads of Red Death cross breeds or, maybe, just have a Red Death meat & milk farm and petting zoo, players choice.
You can also disable fast travel in other ways. The boat to and from Far Harbor will disable it while moving, as does the train to and from Nuka World. This specific mod relies on the same method the base game uses to prevent you from fast traveling from Fort Hagen while the Prydwen scene is playing.
