By setting the handle back from the head at a 45 degree angle, you take away about half of the force you could bring to bear. The whole point of attaching it so that the head is parallel to the handle, is that when you do a full swing, you can add the maximum power to the effort. By setting it to 45 degrees behind the head, you nerf the effect of a full swing.
I am not sure what you are on about, but the photos were pretty much just taken to show the rocket motors with the flames coming out of them. The axe is set up to use the vanilla bat (Grognak's Axe) animations. The model used was downloaded from Sketchfab and set up the way it is supposed to be. If you have an issue with the way the vanilla animations work and look, then that is something you should take up with Bethesda.
