Introduction

Adds a laser designator to provide a single platform for your special deployment needs. The M45 Designator provides high-impact ordinance strikes, with HE cruise missile and tactical nuke modules to answer the question: "where does conventional surface warfare end and serious combat by ordinance begin?" It can also mark Minuteman artillery fire, call in Brotherhood vertibird transport, or teleport Institute synths to designated locations.

This mod aims to provide players with a dubiously lore-appropriate, mostly convenience-driven targeting ordinance delivery system.

Taking inspiration from a_blind_man's PreWar Binoculars, this is a recon/targeting device that lets the the user scope out or designate with militated style. Designation is purely fire-and-forget, just build a module at the weapons bench, make some ammo, and dump explosives on the Commonwealth. Simple, stylish, and selectively overpowered.

Designator and ammo are craftable at the chem bench, and ammo requires only caps. By default, designation types need throwables related to their function.

Features

  • Binocular designator device for all your recon or targeting needs
  • Several options to direct your fire, including cruise missile and tactical nuke strikes
  • Optional compatibility with ShiroNyanP's A-10 Warthog CAS

Designation Options

  • Minuteman Artillery - Because, of course. Build the module, designate, and wait for the thunder.
  • BoS Vertibird Fast Travel - Call in a vertibird at the target location for transport.
  • Synth Relay - Teleport a Gen 2 synth to the target location.
  • Cruise Missile - Drop a high explosive payload at the designated location. Explosive, non radioactive, safe to use at mid range. Roughly 2.5x the size of a mini nuke.
  • Tactical Nuke - Drop a REALLY high explosive payload at the designated location. Explosive, radioactive, and safe to use at fairly long range only. Around 6x the size of a standard mini nuke. Leaves a field of deadly radiation that persists around a minute and a half. Doesn't check for line of sight so cover is won't save them.

How to Get

  • Craftable at the chem bench under the category "Laser Designator." Ammunition also crafted in this category.
  • Located at USAF Satellite Station Olivia in the intel room, along with some barely passable lore justification

Compatibility

  • Modifies ScopeOverlay so it conflicts with custom scope overlays. Patch file in fomod for users who don't want scope overlay messed with.
  • The IMOD used for the reticle is still an IMOD, so some ENBs that don't play nice with IMODs conflict.

Credits
hitman47101 for his fantastic binoculars reanimation. Absolutely fantastic, big props to him. Check out his PreWar Binos reanimation.
ENTANGLED for base model and textures, used under non-commercial license.
a_blind_man for PreWar binoculars, which provided inspiration and helped confirm parity in the file.
Coyote for everything else.

Tools Used

Blender, Nifskope, Outfit Studio, Gimp 2.0,  Creation Kit, and FO4Edit

Known Bugs/Issues

  • Failure to Fire - Nuke and cruise missiles sometimes don't activate on some geometry. Working on it, but for now aim at the ground at the base of your target for best results. Also happens if you fire at targets really far away, notably because the laser doesn't hit rendered ground.
  • No 3rd Person Animations - I'm not an animator by any definition so the 3rd person anims are currently just pistol anims. It is what it is.
  • Some users report CTD in some cases. I was unable to replicate this in my game but the issue is being investigated.
