he could still wear vault 111 since most vault staff have defected and abandoned that vault. so why not wear vault 111's jumpsuit still even though he's in vault 81, to indicate he's one of the staff who left the vault? (or at least keep one in his inventory)

also, would there be an all-in-one pack for all the NPCs like him?

The Vault 111 staff had a civil war not long after the bombs fell, and although the winners/survivors evacuated, that was 200+ years before your character wakes up from cryo-sleep.

I'll likely do a cut content AiO at some point, but probably not before I'm done restoring the stuff I want to restore. I'd rather not have to update an AiO every time I uncut something.

@Russ - No, the prof, if in Vault 81, can't be from 111 (nor, iirc, are any other residents from outside). When you first get to Vault 81, in dialogue the overseer's reaction & questions make it clear she's never heard of 111 nor the cryo chambers. And in dialogue (here) when asked if she's seen any other Vault dwellers she even says "You're the first. In all our time here, not a single traveler from another Vault."

Would be cool if he had gotten in a cryo pod in the other room to avoid being killed in the fight between the Vault 111 research team and the security team.

That would've been nice. I was trying to think of ways to keep him as another Vault 111 survivor, but there wasn't anything to work with. His default voice type is a generic, post war variety, so the best I could do to maintain the Vault connection was to move him to V81 and tie the voice to V81 voice lines. Had he pre-war voice lines, I might've been able to keep the Vault 111 connection.

      Retconned story:
Getting frozen in Vault 111 caused an amnesia and during the fight between the research team and security he was unfrozen for some reason and left the vault.
Confusedly wandering through the horrors of the wasteland he stumbled upon Vault 81, noticing that he was wearing a vault jumpsuit as well.
He eventually gets accepted and starts working for Penske, planting gourds.

Keep the Vault 111 jumpsuit in his inventory as a memento for his time before he came to Vault 81.
And add his name to one of the cryo pod terminals in Vault 111.

Not a bad retcon, although upon reaching V81, you're told they never heard of V111 before.

I think he could've been a pre-war character you'd meet before the bombs drop (hence the "professor" title and Concord faction affiliation), but that doesn't account for the post-war dialog. 'Course, the post-war dialog could've been a placeholder, but the character was ditched before unique voice files were made.

Nice but the trouble with that retcon, as-is, is the squabble between the scientists and security team was soon after the 180-day rations ran out, meaning your Prof would've de-frosted in 2078, some 209 years before the player awakes...

However, a neat story could be if he somehow wasn't defrosted then, but supposedly periodically did so to keep a check on the other pods. That there was nothing he could do to save your spouse, so he kept them frozen and once the coast was clear unfroze you (this would've all neatly, initially explained why your partner isn't a skeleton when you awaken and fooled you on how long ago Shaun was taken). And then you later find out he's actually an imposter, because you find the real Widmer's skeletal remains (and some note identifying him) - he'd got killed in Concord in 2078, maybe hunkering at the museum. You then go back to the vault but fake-Widmer is gone, and containment/failure alarms now all triggered. You maybe find a terminal with a message to Widmer indicating he's an agent of some mysterious org called the Institute, but that's all you glean - for now...

As a professor, he sounds to me like a good candidate to run one of my medical clinics. Thanks!

I had a similar thought. There's a mod called "Children's Desks" (I think) that includes an assignable teacher's desk. I tried it a while back but couldn't get it to work quite right, but I'm going to give it another go so I can assign the good professor to the teacher's desk.

There are quite a few cut content NPCs. For instance, there are about a half dozen unique, named raiders from the Combat Zone who were cut. They may have been restored in one of the Combat Zone restored mods, but if not, I'll likely bring them back in some form or other. Maybe as a new gang to fight. Maybe a gang that can be recruited if you become the Overboss in NW and start claiming CW settlements. I haven't yet decided.

There is also a cut npc named Dolly Madison, she is a friend of Hancock. I hoped we can also recruit her.

Unfortunately, there's almost nothing in her file to use. She has face/body data, but that's about it. She might be the most incomplete cut NPC I've looked at. However, I did use her face/body data for one of the Institute scientist replacements in my "We Have Names" series. I just cleaned her up gave her dark hair.
