Yeah me too, bloody annoying as well considering VATS is a big part of the game. But I always laugh to myself when I lose that previous 2 hours of game time and have to start again! Ah the joys
"...You don't save every thirty minutes out of habit?"
I play on hard rather than survival because I have a habit of quicksaving every 5 minutes. My game has crashed from mods so often, that even if it runs well 9/10 times for hours before anything happens, I still won't trust it for more than a few minutes.
Disabling messages 'parched, hungry, tired etc. during combat helps a lot. I don't remember exactly how i did it, I do remember using Mod Configuration Menu. Best solution is already mentioned Vats freeze fix. I've also allowed myself to use quick save in survival, there are several mods for that. In case my game crashes, I load the quick save, if I die, I load previous proper save (sleep).
This issue is related to multithreading and resource sharing. If I make a mod that crashes the game upon freeze, the crash log will just point at my mod because it only prints out the stack and registers for the thread that caused the crash. During your gameplay, the game spawns numerous threads (usually over 20+) so it's nonsensical to print out information of all threads either. This is why I didn't make alternate versions or make it print more info in the logs. I'm gonna sticky this since others might ask for this feature as well.
Every time this runs, it just crashes the game rather than unfreezing. I go looking for a crash log and rather than a crash log I just see Escape Freeze log with about 30 warnings about total_lock_counter. I think it happens when I move from one cell to the next as I can't think of anything I'm doing other than walking or running before the game croaks.
I think I'm having the same issue. I haven't traveled much in the exterior yet but sometimes when entering a new cell, my game crashes with no crash log.
I disabled Escape freeze and started completely freezing up which means, it was shutting the game down, but it was also stopping the freeze... Turns out though, I had some wonky settings in my Fallout4Custom.ini so I deleted that and all my freezing stopped.
This mod saved my game. I've been experiencing freezing after sleeping - I've got AN76 installed which I think is the culprit but installing this mod fixed the issue. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this mod. I was freezing up when I would either enter combat with a large amount of enemies or take damage. I would notice a stutter then the game would just hang. With this I have the minor stutter but come right out of it. I checked the log and it picked it up so I can see this mod has saved me a number of times in a matter of a couple of hours. You have saved me so many task manager closes and I can finally just keep playing - 10/10
Don't remember if I ever commented but this really should be endorsed more! With this many times in combat I've seen the freeze taking hold but I suspect this mod stopped the deep freeze and I was allowed to keep playing. I don't know the details but I am sure Fallout 4 is a better game with this mod!
i f'in love you, guy! i came back to f4 after a big mod finished its development and i kept getting frozen (mostly during combat). i was so close to quitting till i found this mod. thank you so much!
The mod is broken for me, it says 'REL/Relocation.h(600): failed to open: Data/F4SE/Plugins/version-1-10-163-0.bin' when I try to open the game, but I allready have F4SE installed.
It is definitely not. This is a common issue if you doesn't have Address Library for F4SE Plugins or installed it incorrectly. After installation, please check Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins to see if the "version-1-10-163-0.bin" file appears in that location. If not, manually download AddressLib then move it's "version-1-10-163-0.bin" file to that location.

I'm expecting more hotfixes to come so I won't be able to update it for a while.
Thanks.
Q: Hey your mod is broken. I get "REL/Relocation.h(600): failed to open: Data/F4SE/Plugins/version- 1-10-163-0.bin" upon start
A: Install Address Library. I've stated that it's a requirement.

It might be worthwhile to have an alternate version force a crash in the event of a lock up to see if Buffout can detect a fix for the conflict.

Any idea how to fix this? This mod would really come in handy
