About this mod

Includes preconfigured files for Wolfmark's XDI fix to make its application more plug'n'play. Wolfmark's fix renders individual XDI patches (like the one for SS2) obsolete.

Some time ago a user called Wolfmark created a bugfix for Extended Dialogue Overhaul. By default XDI doesn't work with certain dialogue options from mods that didn't set their dialogues up the same way as vanilla dialogue is set up. These dialogue options are missing a part, sometimes intentionally. That's why mods like Sim Settlements 2 and Heather Casdin require a patch that makes changes to some of their dialogue options. But with Wolfmark's fix applied those individual patches are no longer necessary.

Unfortunately, this fix never made it into the original XDI release build. So, a user has to find the buried download link, apply the fix, and configure XDI manually. And many users don't seem to even be aware that this fix exists. Since I recently started from scratch with my Fallout 4 setup I figured I could provide other users with my preconfigured XDI files for Wolfmark's fix so that its application is more plug'n'play.

In case you want to read up on the creation of the fix here's the link to Wolfmark's comments in XDI's Posts section (forum link):

<<< INSTALL AND USAGE INSTRUCTIONS >>>

All requirements for this mod, including Wolfmark's fix, are linked above within the Requirements drop-down menu.

  • Download and install the original Extended Dialogue Interface.
  • Download Wolfmark's fix from their Google Drive.
  • Extract the XDI.dll from the download. Ignore everything else, unless you're interested in the fix's source files.
  • If you've installed XDI manually or use Vortex/Nexus Mod Manager go to ..\[Fallout4Root]\Data\F4SE\Plugins and replace XDI's original XDI.dll file with the one you extracted from Wolfmark's archive. If you're using Mod Organizer 2 open XDI's staging folder and replace the file in there instead. Alternatively, the more elegant solution would be to set up a separate "mod" within your mod manager that contains the replacement DLL and its target path and simply let it override the original. But I won't explain how to achieve that here.
  • Now install this mod. You'll be prompted with an override dialogue for XDI's MCM files. Accept or make it load after XDI.
  • You're done, the fix is set up.

You can customise Wolfmark's fix with this mod's two new MCM options, found within XDI's original menu as shown on the second screenshot above. The first option basically toggles the fix's functionality. And with the second option you can configure how the reworked dialogue is formatted. Here's a short explanation for the two variables used:
  • $prompt is the variable for the original dialogue line that would show in the vanilla dialogue UI
  • $text is the variable that is replaced by the full dialogue line that the character is going to say

IMPORTANT: If the dialogue lines seem to be ending abruptly and the » symbol (or its HTML notation, as can be found in the INI file) between the aforementioned two variables isn't working for you try to replace it with something else. Some users reported that one to be causing issues.

Changing the dialogue format requires the game to be restarted for the change to take effect.

<<< COMPATIBILITY >>>

This mod and Wolfmark's fix only conflict with other mods that override XDI's code library XDI.dll or MCM files as well. Fortunately, those are quite rare.
Other than that, it should work in every load order.

<<< FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS >>>

Why don't you include Wolfmark's fix directly in this mod?
That would be quite convenient. Unfortunately, XDI's authors are very clear that they don't want their original files included in and redistributed through other mods (except for total conversions). And I also don't have the right to copy and redistribute Wolfmark's work without permission from all involved parties.

Is it safe to use Wolfmark's fix?
Probably. I use it since its release back in 2019 and successfully completed several playthroughs with varying mod setups. And I only heard/read good things about it from other users. But if you're going to be using Wolfmark's fix you're doing it at your own responsibility, I won't provide any support for it.

Can I run this on top of individual XDI patches (like the one for SS2)?
Yes, if you already have XDI patches in your load order that you don't want to remove mid-playthrough then you can apply this on top of them. You'll just end with some redundancy.
