Is there a possibility to make blocking in fallout 4 much like in the older games? Like you can hold your melee weapon to block but gradually drains your AP
i second, 3rd, and 4th this, fallout 4's timed blocking is horrible and the iframes don't even start until the block animation is halfway done. I hate the riot shield mod because it's also horrible.
People have the capacity to actually fix Fallout 4's dogshit melee combat but they keep making the wrong mods.
I have no experience with animating etc. So this is something, I currently can not do. I hope that this mod is a encouragement for other authors to finally give melee in Fallout 4 more love.The biggest issue is now gone and we can have a fluent melee combat experience.
THIS! 1000 times this! Please for the love of all that is good in gaming do this. Hold block to block. Why would this not be a thing. A timed blocked should be rewarded.
If I hold block I should continue to block. I dont even think it needs to drain AP. It dosent in real life. Holding a weapon in an aggressive or defensive stance takes the same energy. Its only the act of attacking or blocking that is a large exertion of energy.
A timed block however, Thats a parry! Maybe it stuns the enemy, draines more of their AP or even uses less of your AP to block. Either way Bethesda really dropped the ball on this.
Zzyxzz, Thank you for your mod. It is a step in the right direction and a nice improvement from vanilla. I hope others may see this and work on doing what Bethesda should have from the start.
It exists in a mod and it's predecessor called something like "The Real solution to melee combat" but it's bundled with a bunch of other features that I personally don't care for.

I was wondering if you ever thought about adding a framework that would allow rifles to block as well ? been looking around for a mod like this recently and I was surprised to see no one has ever considered the idea! I've been using this since release and feel this mod is essential, but I would appreciate it if you could add an option to set the damage reduction level between NPCs and Player to something other than 100%. To me, 100% damage reduction is an annoying part of melee combat, even if blocking costs AP.
I honestly don't understand how this is supposed to work mechanically. Someone attacks me with a power attack and I block it I'm staggered so they can follow up for free with another power attack. It just makes blocking pointless?
That's the conclusion I came to. I just tried to fight the group of ghouls at the rail yard with a sledgehammer; even if I time the block well, I still get staggered, and they just get a free attack during the stagger animation. They always swing first, so you also can't attack preemptively. I like the idea of the overhaul and not being able to parry the big monstrous enemies, but in practice this just really doesn't work.
Would this be compatible with Effective Melee Blocking or would they fight each other? I really like the way you have damage mitigation and tiers set up, however I don't want to lose the active blocking effect the other mod provides (allowing you to block multiple incoming attackers simultaneously if they're all in front of you).
is it possible to port over assets from skyrim, when it comes to the blocking animations, to make blocking actually look like blocking, i do like the modifications you made it makes combat really that much harder and realistic depending on the target your fighting.
in FO4 your left arm is practly useless, like it has zero use in the game sadly. at least in skyrim you could block and also weald a weapon as both hands were usable.
