About this mod
Experimental model Gatling Plasma for Fallout 4.
NOT AS ILLUSTRATED - this is a console (PS4) mod, no new graphics.
Takes the stats of the FO76 Gatling Plasma and scales them to FO4.
Concept: experimental conversion of a Gatling Laser to plasma operation.
Obtained from the Institute store (at L24+) or from Teagan (at L32+).

- NO IDEA why a previous ESL was flagged as manually verified. Get the latest ESL or ESP instead, they are fine.
- NOT AS ILLUSTRATED - this is a port of a PS4 mod so it has no new graphics files
Further details:
This is a straight, as-is port of a mod I wrote primarily for PS4 and ported 'blind' to PC and XBox on Bethesda.net (ie the built-in in-game mod manager).
The stats are not exactly as per the FO76 stats because the stats of the FO76 Gatling Laser don't match the stats of the FO4 Gatling Laser. I have 'scaled' the stats of this Gatling Plasma to the same ratios that exist between the FO4 Gatling Laser and the FO76 Gatling Laser.
There are a few weapon mods available: reflex sight, beam splitter (shotgun effect), charging barrels (slower RoF/higher DMG). Each mod uses different plasma projectiles. The standard (high RoF) barrel uses the small, fast plasma projectile. The shotgun version uses the small, slower plasma projectile. The charging barrels version uses the large plasma projectile. All of these weapons will give a higher DPS than the equivalent laser weapon. The beam splitter can be combined with the charging barrels, which is probably OP, but it's fun.
My lore / headcanon on this is that Rosalind Orman (the frustrated weapon scientist in Advanced Systems) manages to persuade the Institute to build a prototype of plasma heavy weapon, but they don't really go anywhere with it. Later the BoS either get the same idea, or copy it, or steal the plans, or reverse engineer it. Because Teagan specifically, and BoS armorers in general, like to tinker, they come up with some interesting mods for it. IF Sole Survivor takes over the Institute and directs them to do weapon development, maybe the Gatling Plasma becomes the weapon with which the Institute will defeat the BoS. (I have no animus against the BoS by the way, I prefer them to the Institute, but I like the lore this way.)
Because plasma cores are not available to Institute and BoS scientists, the XM-1 plasma conversion runs on standard fusion cores. Because these are not optimised for plasma weapons, ammo capacity per fusion core is halved (250). This is a balancing mechanism against the higher DPS, as well something that seems lore friendly to me. The other balancing mechanism is reduced accuracy, though this is just copied over from FO76 (I use the same ratio of reduced accuracy for the Gatling Plasma vs the Gatling Laser that FO76 does). Damage of the standard weapon is based around the lowest level damage for both FO76 weapons, then scaled to the FO4 Gatling Laser (as the only FO4 reference point). I also give the Gatling Plasma 50% worse recoil than the Gatling Laser as a further balancing factor. And it just makes physical sense. The shotgun modification further degrades range, range-damage dropoff, and accuracy, but not recoil. I see no physical reason why the recoil should be higher in "shotgun" mode when the damage output and energy consumption are both unchanged.
Perk requirements are the highest of the Science and Gun Nut requirements for similar items, sometimes +1. Lore is that plasma weapons are the most technically demanding. It also seems reasonable to me that they also require ballistic gunsmith skills since they also deliver ballistic damage.
There is a Light Master (ESL) file available if you are short on mod slots in your game. I will keep producing these ESLs but beware they may create save file incompatibilities if you restore from a save with an older version of the ESL. That's just how ESLs work.
While there are Leveled Lists for the weapon, mods and ammo, I have not tried to spawn it anywhere except in the trade containers for the Institute and Proctor Teagan. So the weapon will not randomly spawn on enemies.
Current issues.
- FIXED - removed unwanted 'Automatic' in naming.
- DONE - added all FO76 weapon mods apart from the Prime receiver which requires Ultracite.
- At this early stage of development there are cheat recipes in place that allow you to easily create the weapon and its mods. These will be removed later.
- Like all plasma weapons, it is glitchy when fired from a Vertibird (even a stationary one), e.g. with my mod "Vertibird Gunner". The faster projectiles are less glitchy, the slower projectiles such as the shotgun plasma mod, are really silly.
- I would like to make it visually different from the Gatling Laser (apart from the green projectiles) but I mod primarily for PS4 so my options are limited.
- It turns out that (despite an elaborate keyword and KSSM setup), there is no special sound for plasma weapons. Shame. If a unique sound asset is ever added, well it could be hooked in for PC but not for console (certainly not for PS4) so I will be unlikely to add it.
Known bugs:
Not clear if the beam splitter is showing 8 projectiles?
TO DO:
- Confirm Institute shop sells the weapon - DONE.
- Add in the rest of the FO76 mods - DONE (apart from Prime Receiver).
- Recreate the FO76 graphic model - WILL NOT DO
- Remove cheat recipes (maybe move to a sub-mod)
- Remove the non-canon charging barrels (maybe move to a sub-mod)
- Add a cover image that shows the weapon firing
- Suggestion that I integrate this with Munitions mod, so as to use plasma cores (and that would then get the full ammo count, 500/core). This would be done via a new, actually standard receiver. It would also allow the Prime Receiver mod to be created.
Permissions:
It is against BGS ToS to import models from one BGS game to another. Apart from some technical difficulties as well.
If somebody wants to recreate the models from FO76 and provide those to this FO4 mod for PC (and XBox?) you are welcome, just credit me and this mod please and keep the name the same (with some kind of suffix). Ditto if you would like to add bespoke plasma firing sounds, whether semi or auto or both. Or if you want to send me *your* files for either that would be most welcome.

I don't think I stole or copied or borrowed anybody's work. Crayonkit and Oddlittleturtle on BGS Discord gave some very helpful tips. RedGaming64 on BGS Discord originally requested the mod.
