About this mod
A replacer for all in-game music using the soundtrack from the 2013 psychological horror game Cry of Fear.
- Permissions and credits
One of the centerpieces of the experience of playing Cry of Fear is of course the soundtrack; developed in-house by members of the development team. It perfectly maneuvers all the highs and lows (in terms of intensity) with complete confidence frequently shifting from blood-curdling unease to pure bliss; perfectly mirroring the current mental state of the protagonist at all times. The soundtrack is a core piece of what allows the player to truly lose themselves in the setting and story of the game and remains as a timeless gem of the genre.
As a celebration of 10 years of Cry of Fear and to help further its exposure as well as selfishly allowing myself an opportunity to further praise one of my all-time favorite games, I went ahead with creating this soundtrack replacer for Fallout 4 using music from Cry of Fear upon securing permissions to do so from Andreas himself.
This mod's main file covers all ambient music in-game. There is an optional combat music addon you can install as well. There is also a patch for Whispering Hills with this mod which is required if you are playing with the Whispering Hills mod or the Whispering Chills modlist. Load it after Whispering Hills plugins. You must use the combat music addon with this patch or you'll get vanilla combat music.

It's 2023. Use a mod manager to install this mod like any other (Vortex or Mod Organizer 2).
Ensure these lines are present in your Fallout4.ini file so that your game can load loose files.

You should place this mod after any other mods that affect music (as low as possible). There is no plugin so this only pertains to the left pane of MO2 or...wherever you place mods in Vortex.
If you aren't using Whispering Chills, I recommend using this mod with my ScreamingLake Soundscapes mod; namely the Horror Soundscape - Full Set main file. You need to place ScreamingLake Soundscapes before this mod so it doesn't overwrite the main menu and vault exit music. I also recommend trying out my combat music replacer mod Distortion with this mod if the combat music addon here isn't to your liking. Or if you're like me and hate combat music, check out Dynamic Music Overhaul and choose the ambient music only option in the installer. And I generally recommend Whispering Hills in any modded horror setup as it is the best horror mod for Fallout 4 (in my opinion).
As mentioned above, there is a patch included for Whispering Hills (the mod) in the Miscellaneous section of the Files tab. Below is an example of the order of mods based on all the recommendations above:
Whispering Hills
ScreamingLake Soundscapes - Horror Full Set
Cry of Fear Soundtrack Replacer - Main
Cry of Fear Soundtrack Replacer - Combat Music Addon OR Distortion OR Dynamic Music Overhaul
Cry of Fear Soundtrack - Whispering Hills Patch OR Whispering Chills Patch
Not all of these mods have plugins as some are just loose replacer files so this order pertains to the left and right pane (at least in MO2) as applicable.
Again, I have permissions from Andreas Rönnberg to port the Cry of Fear soundtrack into a Fallout 4 mod as shown below so please do not flag this for removal. DM me with any further questions on permissions. All credits go to Team Psykskallar and I had no hand in the creation of this music.
