I actually witnessed it myself multiple times when I came to respond to the settlement attacks here, I barely had to do anything other than to show up and loot their corpses each time because turrets do their jobs best when they attack from above and against an open field where enemies can't get some cover before even getting close.
With my defensive platform builds, I now see settlement attacks as a means to get some legendary loot (I set my game on Very Hard now with each new playthrough) without even trying.
In any case, my usual setup, all basic workbenches, elevated safe farming area, Fusion Generator and decon arch.
It goes without saying that my build can be expanded should you choose to make your own improvements as long as your PC can handle it, I already know mine can't handle that many additions btw.
