When you do a bug report, please post the Fallout4Upscaler.log to pastebin, or use spoiler tag. It should be located X:\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\F4SE\Fallout4Upscaler.log And if there's crash log, post it as well. Remember to update UpscalerBasePlugin when updating to v1.0.1.
It took me some time to figure out so I will leave a note here for other people.
When using SteamVR (in my case PSVR2) and have DLAA enabled you need to set resolution (global in the main tab) in SteamVR before launching the game. Changing resolution when the game is launched changes nothing. So to find perfect resolution/performance you set resolution per eye in SteamVR, launch game, see how it works, close game, change resolution again, launch game etc.
Beware DLSS doesn't work correctly (see bugs). Only use DLAA or FSR etc.
Using mo2 and couldn't get the heads or tails for how to install Detailed written/bilibili guide by NATIVE English/Chinese speakers would be appreciated
Using this and all required mods on FO4 1.10.163 (Oldgen, before both Nextgen updates). Using DLAA with ENB, no Reshade, no reflex support or the like.
Looking really good. Has a little bit of ghosting. A little bit on the trees if you move, a little bit on the radio frequency visuals in the pipboy menu, and minor ghosting on text (On notes and the like). Other than that, visuals are pretty good. I like the sharpness, it's not too sharp, looks detailed still. Image stability is better than TAA, better than tweaked TAA as well (TAA has a lot of flickering). Hell, even the water reflections from ENB aren't flickering most of the time.
I usually don't like AI-assisted features because they're abused to save time and money, and some DLSS settings provide worse visuals, which make stuff like Raytracting kinda useless if you aren't getting the full quality image anyway. But DLAA looks pretty good. The implementation here in Fallout 4 is pretty good too, and at least for me, works fine.
I made it work for me! I'm using DLAA because I'm using ENB. So here is what I did and I hope it helps someone with the installation:
Manual Install everything (I use Vortex and it doesn't work with auto-installer), remember you need to have Address Library and its requirements for your game version.
1) Download UpscalerBasePluginversion 1.1.2 and download main file from this mod (I used version 1.0.2), remember manual download (no vortex) and it should be obvious but don't download into game folder. 2) Download the DLLs that you want to use from UpscalerBasePlugIn provided links (I downloaded DLSS) 3) Unzip both files, you should have UpscalerBasePlugin and Fallout4Upscaler unzipped folders. 4) Open "UpscalerBasePlugin-502-1-1-2-1693443305" (the folder that you just unzipped) and inside that folder rename the folder called "UpscalerBasePlugin" to "upscalerbaseplugin" so it has no cap letters. (If you have a newer version the folder won't be there at all and you'll have to create one, also move all the files inside that folder) 5) Copy the DDL you downloaded from step 2 inside the "upscalerbaseplugin" you just renamed. 6) Copy "upscalerbaseplugin" folder to Fallout 4 Data folder, you should have /Fallout4/Data/upscalerbaseplugin/DDLsfiles (All DDLs should be inside upscalerbaseplugin folder) 7) Copy Fallout4Upscaler files from the unzipped folder to Fallout4 Data folder, you should have /Fallout4/Data/F4SE/Plugins/Fallout4Upscaler.ddl, .ini, .pdb, etc.. 8) Open the Fallout4Upscaler.ini from the same location and configure the mod (if you use DLSS choose that option, quality, etc... all options should be read) 9) Open F4SE and now the mod should be installed, enjoy!
Note. You should get Fallout4Upscaler.log after opening the game, here X:\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\F4SE\Fallout4Upscaler.log. Also, the upscaler starts working once you load a game, in main menu won't do anything. I was using Reflex support before and yes, it's incompatible it will CTD.
I honestly can't believe I wasn't using this mod before cause I failed to install it. Believe meDLLA is on another level compared to TAA, FSR is better too (specially FSR 3.x).
I forgot to thank the author xD this is a gamechanger for me, so thank you so much PureDark! also, did I mention I'm using it for Fallout London? <3 just beautiful
Thanks for the easily digestible instructions but alas- it did not work for me despite triple checking. *shrug*
Edit: Forgot to include I'm on NG. So, for those wanting to save time regarding version compatibility, it didn't work on my RTX/NG. No Log created either.
Tried it with your guide and it worked flawlessly ! Used the latest version of UpscalerBasePlugin and of this mod. DLAA works well, however, DLSS seems to be broken, it is a blurry mess when you move, don't know what causes this.
Good to know it worked with the latest version too! I also wanted to try DLSS but didn't bother cause all the comments pointing that it's not working, but it also requires a lot more work (steps like like tweaking highfpsfix.ini) and testing. Also ENB its not supporting it at the moment (dough there are people who claimed they got it working). It would be nice for a performance upgrade XD but I'm mainly limited on the CPU side, so not sure if it would be useful.
This is true, I was specifically talking about this free version. Haven't tryied the paid one (Skyrim or Fallout) yet, mainly because I played on a 2k monitor before and a 1080p one now.
Thank you, this worked flawlessly for me once I actually paid attention to the details. This is absolutely amazing. Once you go DLAA, you can never go back.
The game generates an upscaler log, but nothing happens. I turned off AA in the settings, and the game just consists of pixels, and there's no FPS improvement.
I got this working following your instructions! (i have AMD card) FSR does not even show in the upscaler drop down box though, so i downloaded the new intel XeSS 2.0 upscaler from their GitHub and dropped that into the upscalerbaseplugin folder and it works! ive tested XeSS 2.0 with other games too, and i think its just as good maybe even better than FSR 3.1.
i used UpscalerBasePlugin version 1.1.2 though maybe if i use version 1.0.3 FSR will show.....
Im using this method right now. Gets me 110-120 FPS on exteriors but it seems it cant defeat CKE's archage style of rendering NPCs and still cant get past 40 in a 50 population 3 floor Vault 88 Oh well, at least I can get past 70FPS now on a heavy setup.
Got some issues and too bad the mod is no longer maintained so it seems. Recently upgraded to ultra wide which can use some up-scaling due to the Boston area giving dips in the 50 now. As a Linux user I would have really liked to have seen Vulkan FSR2 api being added to it, as well as a more recent XeSS and some of the issues to have been ironed out.
Several issues: - for the mod's FSR2 implementation, it gives a lot of temporal shimmering especially with foliage. - for the mod's XeSS implementation, sharpening does not work, it bugs out the rendering (colors turn to a 24bit mess). Disable sharpening and that rendering issue is gone. - general FSR/XeSS upscaling issue on Linux with this mod, using any upscaled setting except Native. It has/renders a distracting light row of artifact pixels, in proportion to the upscale resolution, at the bottom (and right) side of the screen.
For now if you are on Linux I advice to use ProtonGE, or Gamescope if you can live without vkBasalt and get Reshade working, set FSR1 upscaling to Ultra Quality (1.3), FSR1 Sharpening to 2 and add 0.2 CAS sharpening in vkBasalt. On Linux this is the best solution, con being the UI also scales up which can be noticed.

DLAA looks very good. I had to use UpscalerBasePlugin v1.1.2 and I used NVIDIA DLSS DLL 310.2.
Note: My mouse cursor would not move to the in-game menu. Pressing ` to open the console, unlocked the mouse from the boundaries.
