Dogmeat remains a follower favorite for Fallout 4. Unfortunately, the quality of the official 4K textures offered is a bit underwhelming compared to the file size.
I had a dog like Dogmeat years ago so I know the roughness of the dog's fur by heart.
The image comparison is 4k Official HD DLC VS Enhanced which has been enhanced in such a way that the dog's fur no longer feels flat 2D. The normal map, Specular has also been enhanced so that the details are maximized and are able to display dog fur which has good virtual 3D depth. This mod bit complicated because I have to combine various layers, generate many things, etc to produce more detailed dog fur but so far I like the result.
Install as usual and make sure nothing overwrites this dogmeat file. I use loose files so that this file gets more priority. No need esp. It's just a textures replacer.
Currently I only provide the 4K compliant HD DLC version because Dogmeat is also the only dog in FO4 as a default companion. It doesn't feel wrong to provide HD quality. You can use optimizer to resize it for 2K version (if you need it).
You don't need HD DLC to use this mod because it's a standalone mod.
