I am using the gasmasks for the commenwealth mod (if I got the name right) and was wondering if you know of or how making and NPC muffled version would work?
I'm not sure if NPC's all use the same "audio channel" (I'm not sure what to call it, can't remember what the CK called it) The player has it's own dedicated one, which is what I hooked into to apply the effect.
I could have a look to see if I can apply the same logic to NPC's if you'd like? mind you that it will always be muffled just like the main mod.
Nexus was implementing the collections system and as part of this wanted to permanently archive uploaded files so that the links to the specific version used by a collection would still be downloadable (with the added benefit that if you knew the direct link to a file or how Nexus formats file links, you could download files even if the mod page had been hidden/removed). Some mod authors didn't like this because it took the slightest bit of control away from them (aka they couldn't just poof their mod without warning so no one could use or find it anymore whenever they felt slighted, or for any reason whatsoever) so they collectively threw a massive fit and Nexus basically told them to pound sand and if they didn't like it, delete your stuff during the grace period and go elsewhere if it bothers you so much. A lot of them took this offer and nuked everything and ran off to their own sites, Patreon, or Discords where they can continue to control their mods, for good or worse. Chances are that if you can't find a mod you used to use here anymore, it was probably a casualty of that 'Modpocalypse'.
I'm pretty sure I remember what mod you guys are talking about. Yes, it has been done before without using power armor... with the added cavoite that it was ALWAYS at play regardless of what clothes/armor/PA you had on. Unless you were role playing a gen 2 synth or robot or whatever, it wasn't very good.
This is just what I needed. I always used the power-armor voice mod as an alternative but this is way better. Really suits gas masks without voice diaphragms or PSMs.

you sure it's for fallout 4?
There was an easy way to do this in new vegas but bethesda stripped it from the game in Fallout 4

it seems to have vanished from the internet, but someone did get it working for face-covering gear
i know because i had it installed and i loved it, waited a long time for it. getting back into the game, i've found it to be gone.
I wonder what happened?
