Could use a update for the latest ELFX - Previs Patch. Graygarden Homestead previs is broken.

    Hi @Waflia,
I have a question as I'm running into a strange load order/compatibility visual glitch, I'm really hoping you might have some understanding that could help me as I've been trying for the past 2 weeks to fix this, please.

I'm running PRP (TMR version) and Enhanced Lights and FX (ELFX) with your Interior Fog Rework and the PRP/ELFX Compatibility patch ELFX - PreVis PreCombine Patch.
But my problem is if I do this I see Extreme black color banding and dark areas, borderline unplayable. In a dark room, everything just flickers in different shades of gray.

It's almost this extreme, it's not subtle,

If I understand correctly, the load order should be:

    • ELFX
    • PRP
    • ELFX/PRP Patch
However, if I change my load order to:

    • ELFX
    • ELFX/PRP Patch
    • PRP
Then I don't have the issue but dark areas are as black as a black hole. I can't see the ground at my feet, I was walking into a wall and didn't even realize.

I have been trying everything I can think of for 2 weeks, do you have any ideas about what could be causing it or any tips to solve the banding issue, please?
Huge thank you if you can offer any advice.

Hi, you didn't specify which locations this is happening in, so I'm assuming all of them. In that case, it sounds like a issue with the new gen version. I'll look into it.
      Edit: not a PRP issue

@Waflia - My apologies, the main place I'm noticing it is in the Super Duper Mart in Lexington as that is one of the darkest locations I've found so far.

I checked super duper mart, some places are moderately dark but not like you said. I also don't know what other mods you are using and if you are using enb, maybe the problem is in your configuration. You can also install exopatch if you are not already using it, it promises to make ELFX slightly less dark, see if that fixes your issue. Regarding color banding, I can advise you to downgrade to pre-next-gen version if it is not a compatibility issue with other mods.

@Waflia - Thank you for your reply.

I have 99% of the mods on the TMR guide, the only addition is ELFX, this mod, and the ELFX/PRP patch.
I have also tried every single version including the archived versions of this mod, every patch version, and every possible load order combination. Disabled every other mod. Tested a different monitor. Change drivers and driver settings. Changed monitor configuration at the hardware and driver level. I've tried everything I can think of.

I am a little embarrassed to say that this one bothers me a lot, so I have spent 30+ hours over the past couple of weeks loading the game, testing, quitting the game, changing one thing, then loading and retesting... Over and over :(

I recorded a very quick video to show it, I had to use a command in-game to increase the gamma otherwise the video when uploaded to YouTube was just a black screen, the compression killed all of the detail.
On my screen, it is darker than this and even more psychedelic with wavy black banding

Okay, I get it now, you tested it at night, it's partly due to ELFX, so changing the loading order won't help. I found the issue and I can fix color banding with a patch, but it will still be dark at night because ELFX removes artificial light, use a pip-boy flashlight or something :)
I can increase the background lighting a bit, but it won't look natural, maybe I'll find a balance.

Apologies for not mentioning it was at night. The only time I get to work on this or gaming is after I finish work at about 2:00 am until sunrise, so my brain is mostly on power saving mode.

Regarding the fix, that is absolutely amazing, thank you so much.
I want it to be that dark, I like unlit interiors or caves/tunnels to be absolutely pitch black so you cannot see the ground at your feet, and MUST use a light. I love playing games like this, it's why I swapped to an OLED monitor for the pure blackness, and I run a bunch of mods that make the outside wasteland pitch black at night as well, so this is perfect.
It was just the banding I couldn't deal with.

Thank you again, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

@Waflia, I tested the eXoPatch with ELFX only, then with the PRP patch, ELFX Fog Rework, and PRP Fog Patch.
I also tried every load order combination.

The eXoPatch definitely makes a Big difference to the banding, it's a lot better but still very visible at 5+ meters in front of the character. And of course, as you move closer to an object it does flicker different shades of gray. But it is a big improvement as previously it was unplayable, the flickering was unbearable, now this could be masked with a light ENB/Reshade.

However... It introduces a new visual problem, almost everything has a white glowing edge. If you think of Borderlands Cell-Shading art design where edges have a black outline, this is the inverse, anything dark now has a white-edged outline.
Very strange, more investigating and playing around/testing is going to be needed. Modding is never simple :)

You didn't update the mod. There is a new 1.2 version. And load ELFX-PreVis patch last

      YOU FIXED IT!

Hi @Waflia, please don't hate me... I have a question.

I installed your new v1.2 of IFR and the PreVis Patch, and using the same load order as you specified. It has fixed the banding visual glitch but I noticed there was still really close fog in the Super Duper Mart.

So I took identical screenshots back to back, enabled your IFR mod, loaded the game, took a screenshot, quit the game, disabled IFR, loaded the game, and took a screenshot again. The fog is in the same place, the fog starts at the vanilla distance with v1.2, it doesn't seem to be pushing the fog back like it used to.
I've tried changing the load order in lots of different orientations but it persists.

Because it's so dark in that interior at night I used the console to increase the gamma just so the fog is clearer in the gif screenshots.

If it's not clear on that Gif I can upload the original screenshots

I've uploaded test version of a patch (in miscellaneous files), if you load it correctly you shouldn't see fog in that location.

Looks like Exoclyps updated his mod and realesed a new patch for Real WIndows . I wondering if this mod still works if running it with Real Windows mod?

Where would the ELFX exopatch mod go in the load order?

Looking at it in xedit it has about two dozen worth of conflicts, but they're just fog values so you can put the "ELFX - PreVis - patch" after it, and it should be good.

Should I load EnhancedLightsandFX.esp before or after PRP.esp? I cant seem to get a straight answer out of anyone.

If you load it before PRP, then PRP changes will persist and vise versa. But if you use mods like ELFX - PreVis and this mod, then it wouldn't matter since those mods sould be loaded after and will overwrite previous mods.

Should the PRP 0.74 patch go before or after the ELFX PreVis mod Patch?

It doesn't really matter, you can place it after just in case

Technically shouldn't need PRP Patch for if you're using ELFX-PreVis as ELFX-PreVis in its own replaces the PRP edits done. So the ELFX PreVis patch should be enough.

Edit: Unless this also touches other cells that the ELFX-PreVis don't. In that case you'll want the PRP Patch to load before the ELFX-PreVis patch.

there are a few cells which are touched by ELFX-IFR which therefore interfere with PRP. I use the elfx exo previs patch. The exo patch and your patch dont touch that cell. There are around 50 cells like these if im reading this script (Check previs) correctly

There is a patch for these cells, install it if you use PRP.

Yes, as intended, this mod covers more cells than ELFX, some of them interfere with PRP and a patch was made just for these cells.

ahh i see so i should be using your "ELFX - PreVis - patch" AND your "prp patch"?

Loading the "ELFX - PreVis - patch" later of course?

can confirm that did it, had to set loot rule to load "prp - patch" after "prp","elfx-ifr", "elfx-previs" tho.
Might want to add this to the description this was not very clear (the naming of the esp's dont help either :P)
Thanks for clarifying and ur work
