Hey guys :) I just uploaded v1.1 - thanks again for all the input, it's really appreciated. After some digging in the Creation Kit I decided to make a new "real" plugin for the decals, which I will update from time to time.
My goal with it is to enhance the FX and not to push them into the foreground by adding unnecessary or in-your-face stuff. Just to create a better feeling of the combat, best in conjunction with other mods whose goal is very similar like Giammottos awesome Bullet Impact Overhaul.
I have taken interest in your mods, great work! Was wondering if you could also make interior windows darker as well. https://imgur.com/a/1u8RMJf (pic in Concord Speakeasy)
Why on earth would you want that. Textures should be matched to the size of the mesh in question. Textures being “4k” doesn’t necessarily make them better.
Hey y'all!! :) Thanks for your constructive input. You all have good points and I will make an update where i will define the textures more. Have a great day!
Both streetyson and MetZwerg has a point, very obvious I'm afraid, there's even glass cracks in the window frames now, they clearly needs to be resized...
Another thing to be wary of is the mistake I've seen many modders make (including me, back in the day, in old games like Combat Mission). We want higher resolution and greater detail than a vanilla game's typically muted looks. But when increasing resolution we not only remake the existing style in a higher resolution, we tend to also add more stylisation (eg, more cracks, more holes, and/or bigger and more obvious ones). The trouble is most such patterns are generic (repeated everywhere). So whereas the game's original vague and fairly unresolved detailing gave the overall impression of cracked windows, rusty metal etc, you never really noticed the individual patterns. But when such patterns are more detailed and/or exaggerated, you begin to notice it's the very same pattern of bullet holes on every goddam window - the same highly detailed rust spot or flakes of paint repeated on every goddam metal blue door etc. And it will catch your eyes all the time and grate on your senses after a while.
The trick is to increase resolution only so far as overcoming blockiness/pixellation, while keeping in mind the need to stay vague/generic, except of course when dealing with any rare or unique item textures which aren't repeated often or at all.
Anyway, keep up the good work. I'm already a fan of your mods!

and it kinda kills the immersion if the "glas"cracks are so clearly seen to go through every other material... like the wood of the windowframe
