This gun is great. I was stoked to see one of my favorite weapons from New Vegas brought to Fallout 4. I liked it so much I downloaded the Laser RCW, Plasma Pistol, Police Pistol and Service Rifle ones as well. Also can't wait for the Instute Redux one. Thanks for taking the time to make these mods and share them on the nexus.
I read on the Munitions - Official Patch Repository posts page that you're currently updating your weapon mods to use that mod's functionality. Am I correct in assuming that you're going to release an update/patch/version of this mod to use the Small Energy Cells from Munitions?
this mod will remain using plasma cartridges as it makes sense in terms of the design of this weapon. The Tesla Cannon, Plasma Pistol, and Laser RCW however will be updated rather than patched to require munitions. All PBW weapons will require Munitions from now on as it makes balancing easier with the scope of this project.
Unfortunate, I was kind of hoping for a overhaul with the small energy cells. While I understand why keeping it plasma cartridge, I kind of wish it looked like the plasma cartridge in game, since energy ammo in fallout is generally clunky and set in stone in appearance, it's not like a bullet in a magazine or clip. Bit of a stickler for that kind of thing, but I understand not wanting to change it up. Can't please everyone and all that.
Honestly, I just view it as an in-universe means to keep customers coming back. If you design a nice, compact plasma pistol like this, people aren't likely to need more than one unless they're outfitting an army or they like to dual wield like some sort of Mandalorian madman. Ergo, you need a reason for them to keep buying from you. Best way to do that is to be the only one who sells the shaped plasma cartridges you need to actually fire the weapon. I mean, I imagine they're refillable if you have the know-how, but that's still only practical in a combat situation if you've got four or five full cartridges to begin with. Granted, the Plasma Defender from New Vegas is pretty much a modernish take on the Glock 86 from the first two games (though personally, I feel like there's enough of a difference for them to count as separate weapons) and both of those used standardised energy cells, but you've kind of got to move with the times. Maybe the 86 wasn't the pinnacle of plasma technology. There is mention of it being designed by an AI modelled on Gaston Glock himself. Who's to say that AI didn't survive the war?
By the way, I tried out the Accelerator barrel last night. I was wondering what the speed increase essentially amounts to. Like, does it now reach the destination at the same time a laser blast would?
