What Is This Mod?
This mod uses the Mercenary Outfit Pack, a modder's resource by DefaltTheFixer, to integrate mercenary outfits into Fallout 4. Since the game doesn't have a fleshed-out "mercenary" faction, I've gone through and added these awesome outfits to various NPCs where I felt it made sense. The mod includes a FOMOD installer that allows you to assign the outfits to all of the following NPCs or just the ones you choose:
  • The mercenary guards outside of Parsons State Insane Asylum.
  • Caravan guards. These folks should be guarding with some style!
  • Scavengers. Why roam the wasteland in rags?
  • Covenant Security Guards. I hand-selected heavier, more combat-focused, outfits for this shady group.
  • Neighborhood Watch (aka Goodneighbor Guards). I've chosen outfits with some flair while still keeping to the Goodneighbor vibe.
  • Edward Deegan, a true mercenary at heart, gets his own special outfit.

Most of the outfits already have reasonable armor ratings that won't break game balance, so all of them start spawning immediately on the NPCs designated above except for the Merc Combat Outfit and Merc Heavy Outfit. Those outfits have significantly higher armor ratings, so I set them to start spawning at levels 20 and 30, respectively.

Some outfits are paired with a completely random piece of headgear. Others have headgear built in. Goodneighbor guard outfits have a curated list of headgear that I felt fit their look and feel better. All outfits have a 10% chance of getting a random backpack (5 to pick from) except for a handful of outfits that already have a backpack built into them.

Balance Changes
In addition to providing custom leveled lists to distribute the new outfits, I've also made the following balance adjustments to the Mercenary Outfit Pack:
  • Disabled all crafting recipes for the outfits and accessories to prevent an infinite crafting loop for resource harvesting. All items were only set to cost 1 cloth but returned an enormous amount of resources when scrapped.
  • Disabled the crate at Lonely Chapel containing all of the outfits and items. Also disabled some of the added surrounding loot.
  • Reduced bonus carry weight on the new backpacks from +170, +150, and +100 to just +50 across the board.

How Do I Install This Mod?
Simple: Install the latest version of the Mercenary Outfit Pack (may want the optional file there too), then install this mod after it.

Compatibility
This mod is compatible with everything except other mods that also directly modify the same outfit records.
