About this mod

Are you a busy person and don't have time to look for your next meal? Why not save leftovers from your previous meal? Almost all animals drop meat but there's an inconvenient subset of them which do not.

Permissions and credits
Prompted by a reddit post several weeks ago asking why meat can't be looted from dead humans.  I thought it was a good question and spent a month making this.  Tada!  Someone else has very recently posted a similar mod and functions a bit differently than mine so you may wish to check it out if this is the sort of stuff you're interested in.  https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/62615

GENERAL

This mod can be installed at any point in a game.  It does not override any base game assets so it should not interfere with other mods.

By default flesh and bone will start appearing on humans after the Cannibal 1 perk has been obtained.  The Cannibal 2 perk unlocks ghoul and super mutant flesh and bones.  Cannibal 3 impacts the value of the meats and cooked meals.  The Wasteland Survival Guide #9 "Hunting in the Wastes" impacts the amount obtained.

Consumption will be handled based on game mode.  When in survival mode eating raw flesh, or its cooked version, is treated as if the player had consumed a freshly created road kill.  If Dark Craving is turned off then the food value is reduced significantly but is still on par with mid level foods with a value of 50.  Comparison: Noodle Cups are 20 points and grilled radstag is 60.  When not in survival mode, the meal is treated like regular food and heals character health.  Cannibal-lite perhaps.

It seemed weird to me that butchering an animal for meat is possible but finding a pre-owned bone wasn't.  Now, humerus bones can be removed from dead humans, ghouls and super mutants.

At a certain point you may find you have an awful lot of flesh and bone or feel that the amount of bone is a bit cheaty.  Cutting fluid ceases to be a problem when arm bones are plentiful.  With the holotape the chance of flesh and bones can be set to 0%, 12%, 25%, 50%, or 100%.

Don't feel like waiting for Cannibal 1 & 2?  No problem!  Just disable that requirement.  It's not like carving up people and eating them is rocket science or using a broom properly.  Why wait?  Once disabled, flesh and bone will start to appear almost immediately.

HOLOTAPE OPTIONS (chem bench / utility ( 1 steel)):
  •  Change flesh drop chances.
  •  Change humerus bones drop chance.
  •  Toggle Dark Craving on/off.
  •  Ignore perks requirements.

FOOD:

Prior to Cannibal 3, raw flesh will heal 25 points of health and cooked versions will heal 50 points.  Cannibal 3 doubles these values.  Raw flesh comes with radiation.  Cooked versions are radiation free and will also have a minor bonus to SPECIAL or other abilities for a period for 42 minutes.

  • Fried Ghoul Bits:        +1 END.
  • Humburger Patty:      +1 INT.
  • Super Mutant Steak: +1 STR.
  • Fort Hagen Oysters:  +100 Damage Resist and +20 AP.
  • Braised Swan Leg:     +100% melee damage and +3 ST.

BEHIND THE SCENES STUFF

This mod does not override any base game assets so it should not interfere with other mods.  However, it does reuse game assets (food) so other mods can certainly interfere with it.  Any mod which changes which death leveled list (LLD) is assigned to NPCs may be a problem too.

A script will inject flesh and bones into the LLD lists for Raiders, Gunners, BOS, Ferals, and Super Mutants.  Because of this, the flesh will only appear on a subset of NPCs.  It's still a lot of them.  I did not want to alter base game NPCs so any NPC which does not have one of the above LLDs will not have flesh.  Some NPCs have LLD_Raider as a death list as well as an entry in their inventory so this results in more meat than expected.  This is particularly true of pre-placed dead Raiders.  Notably, if you plan on farming settlers for food, it probably will not work as they do not have a death list.

After obtaining the Cannibal perks, injection into the leveled lists is triggered by a location change so it's not immediate.  This usually requires going from/to interior/exterior or walking a lit bit away from your current location.

Dark Craving:
This mod calls the function from Bethesda's survival-mode script (HC_ManagerScript) which gives the Dark Craving affliction when eating corpses.  If you have a mod which disables Dark Craving then you should also turn off Dark Craving in this mod via the available holotape.
