MAIM YouTube - mod showcases
Adjust your move speed from 20% to 140%, divided into 11 steps.
Assign hotkeys or use your mouse wheel to scroll through steps.
Adds new mechanics such as all-out sprinting, being out of breath and movement speed affecting AP regen rate.
Tweaks default human movement speeds to be more realistic: walking is faster, running is slower, sprinting is unchanged.
ESL flagged so it won't take up a mod slot.
IMPORTANT: the vanilla "Run" and "Toggle Always Run" keys should not be used or the mod will not work correctly. Use the new Toggle Speed key instead.
Features
- Speed is now divided into three categories:
- Walking | Steps 1 to 5 | No penalties.
- Jogging | Steps 6 to 9 | Reduces AP regen (this can be disabled in MCM).
- Running | Steps 10 & 11 | Slowly drains AP. These speeds are between vanilla running and sprinting. They are more economical over long distances than sprinting.
- The faster you move, the greater these effects.
- Messages will tell you which step and category you're in.
- All effects also apply while sneaking.
All-Out Sprint
- Increasing your speed while sprinting will activate a new mode, full sprint, which increases your sprint speed and AP drain significantly.
- For comparison, vanilla sprint speed is around 16 mph, full sprint is around 21 mph, while Usain Bolt's top speed is 27 mph.
- For balance, this also increases your AP drain significantly. This cannot be reduced by stats and perks.
Out of Breath
- When your AP runs out, a new effect kicks in: out of breath.
- This limits your speed to either walking or jogging speeds (set in the MCM), in order to prevent the player from using running speeds indefinitely.
- It also reduces your AP regen for a few seconds and plays a breathing sound so you know when you're out of breath.
Toggle Speed
- The Toggle Speed hotkey is designed to replace your vanilla "Run" or "Toggle always run" hotkeys.
- This hotkey is your friend; use it often. Press any time you want to reset your speed to default (jogging / step 9).
- Press it again to toggle between jogging and walking speeds.
- It's recommended that you assign your vanilla run key to something you won't use, then assign Toggle Speed to your old run key.
Using Scroll Wheel
- Using the scroll wheel is entirely optional; you can use all functions of the mod with regular old hotkeys.
- It is compatible with other mods that utilise the scroll wheel such as Fine Zoom and Custom Camera.
- If you play in 3rd person, two new Toggle and Hold hotkeys are provided to let you switch the scroll wheel functionality between speed mode and 3rd person camera zoom.
Installation
- During installation you will be asked if you want to use the scroll wheel features. This will automatically install two files:
- Scrolling Doesn't Change POV (F4SE) by lStewieAl. This stops the camera from changing between 1st/3rd person when you scroll.
- MAIM Scroller.exe. This is required to remap the scroll wheel. If anyone is able to help us make an F4SE plugin to remove this requirement that would be fucking fantastic.
MAIM Scroller.exe
- This is a simple AutoHotkey script that rebinds your scroll wheel to [ and ] whenever Fallout4.exe is in focus.
- You'll need to run this program every time, so make a shortcut in your mod manager or somewhere convenient.
- Note some anti-virus programs may incorrectly flag this file as suspicious. You can view the source located in "AutoHotkey Source" with a text editor.
- If you would prefer not to run an exe, you can run the script from the source file itself, just install AutoHotkey and then double click the source script.
Compatibility
- Raw Input. Make sure RAW INPUT.esp is placed above MAIM Speed.esp in your load order.
- Fine Zoom. Turn off "Enable speed changes while aiming down sights" in the MCM.
- Custom Camera. Compatible, but don't edit the camera zoom increment/speed settings.
- Any mods that alter default movement speeds of humans/creatures must be placed above MAIM Speed.esp in your load order so MAIM Speed can override their human values.
Incompatible
- Button Lowered Weapons. Use Configurable Hotkeys instead. It's a long story.
