Currently working on version 2.0. Was hoping to get this out sooner (like last year..), but ended up having several operations, some time in the hospital and I'm still recovering.

Today I replaced the archive creation technique. I was using Windows .NET Framework Zip file creation functions. However, on some computers it seems to have weird issues and messes up. By messes up I mean it either doesn't create the mod file or simply might skip a single song when it does create it. This was very rare, but I prefer never to rare so I replaced the technique with something better. I have switched to using 7Zip for the creation of the Mod file after the conversion is complete. This is tested and seems to work great!! It should also have less unexpected issues than Windows builtin compression techniques. 7Zip is one of the most trusted and reliable compression programs out there so it should be pretty stable!

Next I will add some additional functions to the application like replacing individual songs instead of all songs and a button to open the "Output" directory instead of having to navigate to it on your computer. This way you can easily access and copy the file where ever you want after it is created.

There are other upgrades planned as well. Hopefully I will release soon, but depends on how I am feeling recovery wise.

I am not sure if this works in VR version of Fallout 4 as I can not afford to buy a second copy of Fallout just at the moment. I do have VR though and will get Fallout on a good steam sale. Sadly that will probably be in the summer sale unless a surprise sale pops up before then. It should work though as there is basically no difference in file structure and modding for VR and non VR Fallout.

Anyway... Not dead yet! Almost a few times... but not yet so I am now working on finishing this program. Any issues with this version should be fixed in the next.. :)

Finally released Version 2.0 which has more features like a better interface and ability to choose only certain songs to replace instead of all songs.

Sorry for the loooooong delay from announcing version 2.0 to releasing it, but continuing health issues made me have to step back for awhile. I'm back now after numerous more operations and nearly dying more times than I can count. Now I am working on recovering and getting back to semi normal. Granted as soon as I can start beginning to have a life again we of course have a pandemic and I'm stuck inside. lol

On the upside I am working on some things to start making money again and hopefully over time will get my career going again in some form to get fully back on my feet. The first thing I did though was finish the update to this app and release it!

Yes it is VR compatible and I even tried it in VR. Now if I could just get Fallout 4 VR to stop randomly crashing for no reason that'd be great, but that is one of the quirks of Bethesda games we all "enjoy". lol I'll get the magic tweak sooner or later same as I did Fallout 4 non-VR and really every Fallout and Elder Scrolls game throughout time. lol

Enjoy the new version!! Hopefully it works well for everyone! The random compression issues a few people experienced in the past should be fixed by my switching to using 7zip instead of .NET for compression.

My best to everyone! Good luck out in the wastelands!

I enjoyed that game. Don't know why Hurk gets so much hate though as he's my favorite side character in the series. Haven't played 6 yet, but already miss his carefree redneck ways. lol

I'm late to the party but yeah, Hurk is my fave too, Believe me you really do miss him playing through FC6; but the Stranger Things content is super fun. I have no clue why Ubi decided to do away with Hurk and honestly I thought they'd give in and add him via DLC to make a little extra money but alas still no Hurk in 2023. (Side note I think FC5 has the best OST from both the heroes' and villains' sides, FC New Dawn definitely has the absolute worst OST with the exception of Jahsh Banks - Drunk Anthem )

Thanks again for this tool, I have made so many different iterations of the radio stations for different playthroughs.

Thank you for the MOD and I hope you're ok.

About VR, how did you enable it? using a manager doesn't work for me, so I edited "Fallout4Custom.ini" and added a few lines. That works BUT every time I press the L/R trigger button it saves the game... making it unplayable
    ...

Please disregard this, it was another mod that got activated when activating this one, all works fine now!

Is there a mod just like this, but for the ambient music not the radio music?

Don't think so... Though I seem to get a lot of requests for that so might add it in a future version if I can find where I stored the darn code I wrote... It's around here somewhere. lol I really gotta organize my file system better as it's getting out of control!

yeah id find ambient replacer super useful, I've got my own playlist i play externally so combat can be some random ambient track or whatever. :(

I like the idea, but I would love to see a tool that can replace the game music and not just the radio music.

Hummm... I never actually thought about the game music. I always have it turned off. lol
I might look into that for a future version. I've been toying with the idea of adding Fallout 76 radios to the app as I play it when each new score board comes out and the music gets boring after awhile.

This is awesome, Thanks so much, I hope you're feeling better :)

Years ago I made an all 80's music replacer using More Where that Came From as a base using instructions given to me by OldManMose76, I had always been planning to make 90's and 2000's versions but I couldn't find enough songs to replace the 111 amazing songs provided by OMM76 in MWTCF, now I can use your program for those to replace Radio Freedom instead.

Now I just need to decide whether to use Nirvana's original 'R*pe Me' or the awesome cover by Ai Mori and Violet Orlandi which I love so much. Honestly this is so easy I might make a Radio Freedom version that uses Elderborn's OST too.

    Spoiler:
    Show
For any trolls about to tell me "The original music or MWTCF is AMAZING!!1!11!!", Don't bother, I adore the music from the game and from OldManMose's MWTCF mod, however I work from home on a flexible schedule and have over 4,000 hours in Fallout 4 so the 50's music can get a bit tiring hearing it as often as I do, I switch back and forth between my 80's version and OMM's original MWTCF just for variety, no insult intended and OMM is the one who taught me how to make the 80's version so I assume they were not offended.

(Edited to add, all these replacers I'm making are for personal use only, I'm not that stupid)

I'm so glad this has been useful for you!
True that is an awesome cover. I have been subscribed to her channel for awhile now. I only just discovered her last year! She has some amazing covers!
Radio Freedom using Elderborn OST. That sounds amazing.. I totally gotta do that now. The music in that game is so well done!

Sorry for the late reply, but I never seem to get notifications from Nexus of posts here I only get notified of private messages. Plus I have been away from Nexus pretty much since I released the last version as I was going through over a year of physio. March 2020 I was finally mobile, lost all the weight I gained and decided to meet people, be social, make new friends and even start dating again. Well we all know how that went as next month world shutdown. Go fig...

I just popped back yesterday as got a private message something was wrong with my app on new systems. So now that that is fixed I am replying to various messages here. As for my health. It's better in many ways after the surgeries which I managed to get thankfully before the whole medical system basically shutdown for pandemic. Now I am focusing on rebuilding my body, mind and soul as much of my remaining issues are chronic now, but manageable with time with a lot of work. Go figure once my health started to get better and I could maybe even date again the would would shutdown. lol  Oh well... lot's of time to game I guess. Fallout 76 is actually pretty good now after a few years of growing pains and looking forward to Starfield!

Honestly cannot remember if I posted here yet, but thank you for this.

a cpl weeks ago someone posted a music replacer of tracks from TLOU 1 and 2. Fell in love w it but when I disabled it for a "short break" Vortex killed it.

Your mod allowed me to make a personal radio station of the same music (or what ever other madness takes my fancy) and keep it going. The fact that I almost never use radio stations in game normally means I'm not sacrificing anything either by doing so.

Thanks again, this now has a perma spot in my LO

Thank you! I am so glad you enjoy this!
I was afraid in the beginning no one would actually find my program useful, but I am glad to see you and others have gotten enjoyment out of it. :)
Also thanks for letting me know about the 1kb file issue coming back. I added the solution to my mod page and extra mod requirements to fix it. I had no idea until your message! Thanks again!

Can I use this to replace things other than songs on the radio?

I know this is old question, but if anyone else wonders.. Nope. Just radio station music. Though technically the tools I used to make this program would allow someone to create a similar program that could easily replace literally any sound or sound effect in the game. Personally I don't wanna hand code replacing thousands of sounds, but it is possible if someone else wanted to make a similar program. Imagine replacing gun sounds with duck quacks or rubber chicken noises!  That could actually be pretty fun! Sadly my program is limited just to music on the radios though.

well thanks too links to Microsofts updates for some files on here:
I was able to get things to work

BUT... is there a numeric formula those jukeboxes use to decide which soneg to play? cus it seems to play the same 1 or 2 out of 29 (Institute) over gain...
but this is only game hour 1 and fastraveled 2 or 3 times only...

    :)

I'm guessing "Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2010 SP1(x86)" is something you needed.  I just found out about that myself last night and have added it as a requirement. Was never really a issue before when everything used those libraries, but now that games and programs have moved on it has become a issue for new systems. Sadly the component used to convert audio to the format Bethesda uses requires it and there are no alternatives as it's part of MS DirectX platform.

Honestly I have no idea how the game chooses music. It is annoying for sure as I have heard the same song several times in a row sometimes even before mods. Fallout has horrible randomization for music and seems to get stuck on the same few songs over and over. You'd think they could fix that.. Maybe someone will create a mod to fix it someday. Personally I wouldn't know where to start, but I'd download that mod in a heartbeat!

This should be a WAY bigger deal than it is. It's incredibly simple. I don't even use the radio, I just wanted something to replace the tunes on Radio Freedom while I'm at the castle. Worked great!

Thanks!  Personally I am still surprised there are not more tools like mine available. I see super popular song replacement mods, but no one making tools to make your own replacements.
