Meacham's work with Project Cobalt struck gold. His team came up with a custom isotope based on strontium-90 he's calling "Quantum." He believes he can use the isotope to weaponize almost anything in the military's arsenal.

-John-Caleb Bradberton

Were you also disappointed with the results of Project Cobalt after all the build-up it got? A secret project employing the greatest chemists in America, to make the weapons of the Army stronger, ends up being just used for a...squirt gun and paddle ball?! Well, then this is the mod for you! With this mod, you can modify your weapons to utilize one of the two newly added ammunition types in this mod, which will allow your weapons to fire projectiles similar to Weaponized Nuka-Cola Quantum ones from the Thirst Zapper!

Features

This mod adds two new ammo types, and modifications for a whole bunch of weapons to convert them to use the new ammunition types.

Weaponized Strontium-90: An ammo type similar to Weaponized Nuka-Cola Quantum. Weapons modified to use Weaponized Strontium-90 have their projectiles explode Quantumifyingly upon impact! Great for dealing with a crowd of enemies. It's basically adding an "Explosive" Legendary effect to your weapons!

Stable Weaponized Strontium-90: A more stable version of Strontium-90, weapons modified to use this ammo type have greatly increased damage at the cost of not being able explode. Great for dealing with stronger, individual enemies.

You can craft these ammunition types at the Chemistry Workbench under the "Weaponized Strontium-90 Ammo" category for some acid and Nuka-Cola Quantum (as it contains Strontium-90) OR some acid and 10 Nuclear Material (as it represents various radioactive substances which Strontium-90 is part of). It is more efficient to make (50 per batch instead of 25) Stable Strontium-90 due to the more stable nature of it, allowing for the safer creation of larger amounts of the compound (also because you might run out of ammo faster when you can't make use of explosions).

To craft these ammunitions as well as the modifications for weapons, you need to acquire the Project Cobalt Schematics from the Secure Beverageers lab. You also need rank 2 of "Gun Nut" and "Science!" to craft the modifications. If you do not wish to have these requirements, you can download the "No Reqs" version of the mod.

For laser weapons, the modifications are listed under Barrels, while for most ballistic weapons, they are under the Receiver category. Most weapons have automatic and semi-automatic options for both ammo types.

You can alsoe Quantumize your melee weapons! You have the options of using Weaponized Strontium-90 to craft the "Quantumized Coating" modification, which will allow your weapons to do slightly more damage, have greatly increased stagger, and cause small, cosmetic explosions with each impact! With Stable Weaponized Strontium-90, your melee weapons can do increased regular and energy damage, as well as have cool blue impact effects on each hit!

Balance

Strontium-90 ammo is not the same as Weaponized Nuka-Cola Quantum. The damage of the explosions and projectiles have been balanced according to the game design in vanilla Fallout 4. Using regular Weaponized Strontium-90 is slightly weaker overall than Stable Weaponized-90 as it also does AoE explosive damage, while Stable Weaponized Strontium-90 has no explosive damage but has better damage.

Just like in base game, automatic weapons are weaker than semi-automatic weapons due to the increased fire rate. This includes the Quantum explosions generated by automatic weapons, which are weaker than the explosions of semi-automatic ones. At the base, semi-automatic explosions do 40 damage while automatic ones do 10. This damage can be influenced by the "Demolition Expert" perk.

Generally, the Strontium-90 modifications for weapons are a direct upgrade, meant as an endgame upgrade and a reward for obtaining the Project Cobalt Schematics. In most weapons, they are the strongest tier of upgrade in their category, but still within a reasonable damage range. I also didn't make the requirements Gun Nut 4 or Science! 4 as you already have to go to a DLC location and obtain the schematics to unlock the modifications in the first place.

Known Issues

Spoiler:
Show

  • Laser guns, both regular and Institute, get their projectiles overriden when using Splitter muzzles. I have made a patch which modifies the base game Splitter muzzles and thus it is not compatible with other mods that also touch them. If anyone knows a way to work around this without having to mess with the original Splitter muzzle files, let me know.
  • Gatling Lasers have an unlimited ammo capacity. I have no idea why. I even specifically tried to cap the ammo capacity of Gatling Lasers but they will not listen to me. They still consume ammo, they just never need to be reloaded. If anyone knows a fix, contact me.
  • When spamming "E" while crafting the Strontium-90 ammunitions, the recipes switch place and you end up crafting with the other recipe than the one you were trying to use (Like ending up using Nuka-Cola Quantum instead of Nuclear Materials). It's really infuriating and I have no idea why it happens, if I had to guess, it's something to do with having two recipes for the identical item. If anyone knows a fix please let me know.
  • I tried to add blue ash/goo pile as a death effect but can't seem to figure out how to successfully add Crit/OnDeath effects with a weapon OMOD. I tried to "SET" a crit effect and a "HasEffectOnDeath" but neither seemed to work. Let me know if you know how to do this.
  • Gatling Laser Quantumized Barrels have an unusually high amount of damage compared to other barrels, even though they add less damage than other barrels. I have zero idea why. The regular Quantumized Barrel only MUL+ADDs 1.50 damage compared to the MUL+ADD of 3.00 of the Charging Barrels, yet does absurdly more damage than it. This doesn't seem mathematically possible. Any help is appreciated.
  • The Quantumized mods use the default naming lists. I have made a custom one but I can't figure out a way to utilize it without touching vanilla base game naming list or weapon records. If you know a way please let me know.

Disclaimer

I have never looked at a modding guide or watched a modding tutorial. I just mess with things in FO4Edit using my basic programming and reading comprehension skills and see what works and what doesn't. Therefore, this mod might (probably and hopefully not) have unintended consequences. If something unexpected happens in your game, feel free to blame me.
