About this mod
Adds diversity to Real Name Settlers by adding names originating from other languages.

About the {Legacy} tag: This just indicates I'm no longer actively working on the mod, but kept it up for anyone using it. I would personally suggest using the Alias Framework (link pinned in comments) as it doesn't have the quest alias issue RNS does.
Utilizing Real Name Settlers, I aimed to expand the diversity in settler naming by addding names from other languages. I aimed to add fifty names for each language's gender, with at least one name for each letter of the English alphabet. Why only English characters? Simple, I use the English game, and so far as I know it only supports english characters. Blame Bethesda, as otherwise there are plenty of additional names I would have used. According to Magic 881, they've discontinued the original mod but have left permissions open, and I've also gotten direct permission through DM.
Current Languages Supported:
French: Need a male name for Q, U, Y and Z. Need Female name for Q, W, and Z. Need Surname for I, Q, U, X, Y, and Z. Has ten or so gender neutral names (at least neutral according to the internet, what little French I know hasn't seen actual use in six years) but doesn't currently provide full (AKA 50 names) support. If you conveniently know a bunch of gender neutral french names please let moi know! Also comes with five French titles that can replace the first name, such as Monsieur {Last name}, though as of now it has a less than 2% chance to happen due to the formlist size. If you don't like this remove the AB-FrenchMaleTitles and AB-FrenchFemaleTitles from the related French formlists. If you have more french Titles, feel free to send them my way!
Note: NB and Titles use an experimental insert so not sure they'll show up correctly. First patch to this will fix if they don't, but currently waiting for user feedback.
Spanish: Need a male name for K, X, and Y. As of now doesn't provide support for titles or gender neutral names. Such will probably have to wait for the eventual AIO/alternative version.
Planned Updates:
- Additional languages! At the very least I want to attempt to cover most the Romance languages.
- Patches between expansions: Most likely as I make additional expansions I'll drop a patch so they can all be used together. It will probably be only one patch, to work as an AIO until I get around to making the version that'll contain everything and whatnot.
- All in one: This page won't have an all in one, but once I get a decent number of expansions I intend to upload an all in one with a few tweaks and so on. Basically the AIO will be a remake of the original that includes my expansions and some other things. Keeping them separate allows a coherent files section, and allows people to have a version without the additional features of the AIO should they not want them.
- Make a consistency version: Thinking about making a version that keeps names somewhat consistent, IE if the NPC gets a French first name it'll be tied to a french last name. I myself kind of enjoy the shuffle and think it fits into my FO. So, low priority.
- Nickname version: Want to make it possible to have nicknames on random NPC's (but not all). This will require some time to figure out how to script, but think it'd be really neat RP wise. One possibility is adding an additional field and diluting the chances of a name with "blank" nicknames, but that's a horribly messy way to go about it.
- More Expansions: Want to possibly do some more expansions aside from languages. Things like modder usernames, historical figures, pop culture references, and the like. Why? Because I can and always loved Wild Wasteland and think that it'd lead to that one rare moment in a playthrough that I run into Marilyn Monroe or something. I dunno, I want to is probably the best reason. XD
- FOMOD Style installation: Maybe, to use more than one expansion they'll need minor patches as is (basically just three or four edits to the FormID lists so that they all add instead of overwriting one another).
Questions and Answers
Q. Is this lore friendly?
A. I would presume Boston had more name diversity before the bombs dropped, and such would probably continue afterwards, ish. So, I think so. If I do expansions that aren't lore friendly they'll be completely optional of course.
Q. It's lore friendly? But I use a conversion mod!
A. Guess what? So long as real world names won't be odd for your overhaul the names in this should still fit, excluding any expansions that might not be immersive in the first place. Note: This doesn't mean that no overhaul will need a patch, some may so as always check for conflicts in FO4Edit.
Q. I loaded this onto an old save and settlers names haven't changed?
A. 98% sure that once loaded into a game the name is fixed, new settlers should show have additional name variety.
Q. Wait a minute, that's not actually {language}, it's {language}!
A. This was made using a combination of baby name sites, popular name sites, and the lovely Fantasy Name Generators (using the real life names section, obviously). As such names aren't always accurate, but considering how the names are generated (random name + random surname) it has no impact the player will see.
Q. You used the same name in both the male and female sections, why?
A. Most likely an oversight, let me know and I'll move it to the gender neutral list with the next update, or over to the other gender if it's not a gender neutral name.
Q. You put two names in the same language's Formlist twice, why?
A. Accident, let me know and I'll replace it in the next update.
Q. You put the same name in more than one {language} Form List, why?!
A. This one's not an accident, some names apply to more than one language. That's all.
Q. What about {x} spelling error?
A. An unfortunate side effect of too much caffeine, sleep deprivation, my brain being faster than my fingers, and so on. Just let me know what name I misspelled and I'll fix it with the next update.
Q. Will you add X name(s) to the list?
A. Possibly. Each formlist can hold ~127 records, IIRC. So, willing to add another ~50 names for each language (since they default to 50 each, bringing them up to a hundred or so). If you want a name added feel free to post it on Nexus, along with the name's origin. If you don't post both I will disregard any requests from you. Must use English characters!
Q. I added names I liked to the original mod already, can I save them?
A. Individual ESPs: If you added names to the included formlists, such as "fRNS_FemaleFirstName1 [FLST:080045A9]" there is no patch needed, as the individual ESPs don't touch these. However, if you made a new formlist and added it to the main formlists "0RNS_MaleFirstNameFormlist [FLST:08000F9A]" or the like (if it's not clear, these are the ones that control the naming scheme and only have formlists inside, not the individual names) it will need to be patched.
Q. I have plain settlers showing up!!!
A.First, not a question. Second, this is most likely due to a mod conflict. Check for conflicts using FO4Edit, though if it touches settler NPC records it'll probably conflict.
Q. Will you provide patches?
A. Not for the singular uploads, no. When I rework a few things in the mod and upload it (the AIO) I'll drop patches for mods I use.
Q. You won't patch {Mod} for me? How do I do so myself?
A. Presumably you need to add the script affecting NPC's to the mod added NPC's you want this to affect, along with adding them to the settler formlists, and possibly tinker a bit with the Main Quest. It might depend on mod to mod, I'll possibly add more thorough instructions once I get used to patching this mod myself.
