I personally don't like the fact my stats suddenly change because the game thinks I have a companion with me, regardless how far away or useless they are in combat. The idea seems nice on paper, but in practice it just feels bad investing your levels in a temporary buff that limits the use of companions which are IMO mainly for aesthetic/RP anyways. The perk seems more suited for Fallout 76, which I guess this game was a beta for so it makes sense..
Lone Wanderer perk will no longer vanish when you have a companion and its flavor text has been updated to reflect that. The buffs are unchanged.
