    Version 2

    • Processed the files again with better techniques I picked up since publishing V1.
    • V2 boasts sharper textures, clarity and is much easier on the eyes than V1.
    • V1 was too noisy and drowned out far too much detail which in turn exaggerated any shimmering seen. V2 doesn't suffer from this.
    • Discontinued the 2k files. Vanilla is the same resolution and I don't find it worth the upkeep. Having a single version means I can provide enhancements faster to you.
    • Discarded the Tough_Mirelurk_g and  Tough_Mirelurk_s.DDS files. I included these by mistake.
    • Replaced the 4k normal map with an 8k one. It makes a big difference to the visual presentation of this creature. You can expect performance to be identical. I spawned 300 BloodRage Mirelurks all at once with loose version and my game didn't freeze or stutter with ENB and ReShade running. This mod is incapable of throttling performance.
    • File size has increased moderately.

If you have an existing copy of version 1 throw it in the trash and replace it with Version 2.
Replacing/updating textures is perfectly safe mid-playthrough.
See images for comparisons between the new version 2, vanilla and the old version 1.

I hope you all enjoy the changes made in version 2. I poured a lot of time into it and I hope that's conveyed in my captures.

Enter the following in the console to spawn a Bloodrage Mirelurk in your vicinity. See if these textures are better than your existing ones without any
    fuss or headache!

Enjoy, and don't forget to endorse the file if you end up keeping these textures in your load order! Thank you.

Hello, Zed140. Thank you for your question.

It varies greatly, but in general it's a very lengthy process. I have to inspect every dds before processing it to make sure it doesn't exceed 1k. If its in excess I have to resize it first or my workload becomes exponentially longer. Processing 1k textures is a lot faster than processing 4k sized textures.

Additionally I process a single texture at a time. If I chug everything at it then the results are going to be generally very poor and mixed. There isn't a fits all model for upscaling textures and so I use several ones for the job and that requires a lot of experimenting until I am satisfied with the output.

Once the textures are processed I package them into a mod and test it in game for further evaluation. If I am pleased with the results I begin play-testing for any problems, followed by more touch ups in NVIDIA texture exporter and then finally compressing them to match the original vanilla textures which is another lengthy chore. And If I am unhappy with the look then I start all over again.

What's left then is taking the screenshots with and without the mod so you all can see the differences and that demands restarting the game over and over, making Loose and BA2 copies in 4k and 2k which requires more resizing and additional play-testing on my part.

It's not as easy as some people would have you think it is.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain the process (and no, no one should ever think it was quick or easy, lol). Makes me appreciate these all the more!

Thank you so much for doing these. I download every one. Not sure what your plans are, but Robobrains are sorely lacking a UHD texture here on Nexus. As are most Automatron robots. Or the Gatorclaw could use some love. Also, thanks so much for your detailed answer to the question below. I've tried messing with textures and it certainly takes some effort. Again, thanks for plugging quite a few holes in my texture library. Your work is amazing.

    You are on a roll...lol

This came out awesome. Love how you added that extra layer of detail/ ruggedness. It really looks like something that'll put up a fight.
