    ***Flickering from light sources issue***
Flickering is caused by ENB Bloom and when FO4's "timescale" setting is set below 10 or so. For example, the Prewar introduction is defaulted to "timescale 0", so lights will always flicker during that intro with Subtle ENB. However, once the introduction is over, there should be no flickering at all.

If you are experiencing any flickering from light sources, please make sure your "timescale" setting isn't set below 20 (typically done in console).

More details in the Bugs section.

    ***Version 0.9.3c Update***
    1. As some users requested brighter nights, I decided it wouldn't hurt to bring back the ENB Bloom for nights in full force as users who prefer dark nights can always add the Darker Nights mod. Nights will be noticeably brighter and softer, but nowhere near the brightness of Vanilla. Lights will also give off a soft glow, similar to Vanilla.

Again, if you prefer very dark nights please use the Darker Nights mod alongside Subtle ENB. Don't avoid upgrading to 0.9.3c because of the slightly brighter nights either as the added bloom effect is essential.

    2. Slightly tuned down the ENB Bloom for interiors.

    3. I realized I had goofed with v0.9.3b and left the SFX Bloom disabled. However, after testing, I realized that it was negligible and redundant, so I kept it disabled in this version.

    ***Test Version in the works***
I've been experimenting with a few things and am thinking of attempting two things in the near future. Feedback would be appreciated.

    A. Reverting to Vanilla Bloom and adding SFX Bloom/HDR and doing away with ENB Bloom entirely. For one, ENB Bloom causes flickering during the introduction due to the timescale being set too low. Second, it gives a softness/blurriness that isn't in Vanilla at all. In fact, Vanilla bloom is done quite well and only selectively applied to very bright/reflective surfaces. SFX Bloom/HDR doesn't add softness (single pass?), so this version would have a "harsher" feel overall.

    B. Rebuilding Subtle ENB from the ground up using the Modular Shader Library (can be found on Nexus). I haven't experimented with it yet, but it might give me more/better tools for what I am trying to achieve. However, I am quite satisfied with v0.9.3c, but we never know...

    ***Enabling Letterbox/Pillarbox***
To enable/configure, press shift+enter while in-game to open the ENB Series menu. On the Shader Parameters panel, click ENBPOSTPASS.FX. Increase "Border:: Width Y" for letterbox or "Border:: Width X" for pillarbox. Make sure to click "Save Configuration" on the top-left ENB panel to save your settings.

Very nice ENB Preset! I like to stay as close to a Vanilla feeling as possible and this provides it perfectly but with superb colour correction.

Well done & thank you! ;-)

      Regarding test version feedback:

Wouldn't it look weird to use vanilla and SweetFX bloom+HDR at the same time? Is there a way to use just SweetFX? (maybe disable vanilla bloom+adaptation via ENB but don't enable ENB bloom+adaptation FX?) If not, then is there a reason to use SweetFX bloom/HDR at all versus just vanilla?

Vanilla Bloom is only applied to very specific objects and not on the entire screen for example. Beth just uses it to give a few objects, such as lights and reflective metal surfaces that halo effect and does not make everything soft/glow. Vanilla Bloom also doesn't make light sources brighter or bleed out to affect the overall ambient lighting. It strictly just creates a soft halo/glow around very specific objects.

ENB Series Bloom does it all to everything on screen: affects light sources/ambient lighting and gives off a lot of softness and glow.

SFX Bloom/HDR only affects the ambient/bleed lighting and does not produce a soft glow at all.

If I combine Vanilla Bloom with SFX Bloom/HDR, then I get what Beth intended to be glowing and the ambient/bleed adjustments that I need. If I just used ENB Bloom, I am limited by the amount of softness it produces on the entire screen. I can only go so much before I feel like it gets too fuzzy.

Overall, I am not sure if this combination will produce the best results. Just something I've been testing a bit.

@noidkid, do I have to disable any options with this config, such as TAA or Anisotropic filtering?

No, do not disable TAA or AF. In fact I recommend TAA with Subtle ENB as I have addressed the blurriness.

The only thing I recommend disabling is FO4's default DOF (if you're using my DOF). More details about that on my description page.

Thanks for explaining the flickering. I've used subtle ENB for a while, I just bought a new graphics card and started a new game at the same time and the flickering made me worried that they weren't compatible for some reason. Glad it's just the prewar scene.

Love this ENB, ran perfectly on my old graphics card (which is below Fallout 4's minimum specs) giving it a subtle improvement. Runs even better now on my new GTX 960 and makes the game look great. Excellent ENB for performance and I just like the way it looks.

I think the bloom removal idea sounds good, but it's hard to tell without seeing it in action.

I'm kinda curious about the SFX bloom instead of the ENB bloom as well.
I've noticed I often get a flashing due to the ENB bloom that sorta looks like camera flashes going off. I know it's the light hitting small reflective surfaces but it also oddly happens to trees. I've noticed that sometimes saving and reloading can decrease it though.
I could just disable the ENB bloom, but sometimes it looks so nice =P

Somehow had the flicker problem even though I never changed the timescale. "set timescale to 20" in console and it's fixed. Only thing I can think that would change the timescale is True Storms.

I was jsut wondering what graphical settings you have in your game. You see, I have the 960 aswell and wasn't sure it could handle subtle ENB.

You can run a 5 timescale if you want, but you'll end up eventually adjusting the Sun Update & Sun Timescale to match numerically to the ratio the vanilla game's 20 timescale was doing. Though that's only if it ever starts flickering to begin with. TS & (SU & ST) should probably match the vanilla ratio anyway rather than the FO4 Configurator recommendation for SU & ST being closer to a realtime effect instead of the simulation of it in regard to shadowing & lighting. Math, yeah, it's a thing.

Sticky is inaccurate, there's no way to set letterbox effect with this as the settings and files described don't exist.

There probably is a way to do letterbox if one shoehorns in the latest SweetFX (just SFX itself, not all the DLLs of course).

After I installed ENB, the subways in my game became completely dark, I can't see anything at all, it's as if there was a black fog in front of me. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

    Hello,

I'm a layman when it comes to the possibilities that this enb set offers. I also don't understand anything about the technical processes that go on in the background.
Nevertheless, I downloaded this mod because the effects were displayed so well in the image gallery.

Question, please: Do these enb effects also affect areas of the ground in Fallout 4?

In my game there are a lot of places on roads or field paths that I would interpret as "puddles" or perhaps wet earth:
They are now (?) so shiny that you almost feel blinded when you look into what appears to be a puddle!
I find that very unnatural and disturbing.
In addition: These places are also very often located on many slopes and hills, i.e. where there cannot be puddles or the like for physical reasons.

This extremely bright shine and reflection - do you have that too?
Are the reason for this the effects of this enb-set?
Can I stop these effects in the game without uninstall the enb-files?
Is there another recommended enb-set that doesn't cause these effects?

Thank you so much for your help!
    Best regards

I use the 291 binaries. I found using the most recent binaries created an odd, fuzzy, distorted effect on my water. As always, though, personal mileage may vary.

Does this make interiors completely black? It's night time and I can't see what I'm doing and I'm not sure if it's this preset which was my only change. I turned off the disable fake lights option but it's not helping unfortunately.

Try adjusting the gamma. When you're in-game next, press ~ then Shift-Enter. On the right side of the menu that comes up select "ENBEFFECT.FX" and adjust the gamma (and many other setting) to your liking.

Not all of them but for some reason I can't see squat in RobCo service center and the mechanist's lair under it. The lights are so weak they're barely visible against the darkness, forcing me to go through those cells with flashlight on, or full on night vision. Turning the ENB off brightens them only a bit, so I guess NAC might be messing them up too. So frustrating.

EDIT: Yup! The problem was NAC by default darkening interiors something fierce. While it looks good in some of the better lighted interiors, in cells that were already "creepy dark for jumpscares" like the Mechanist's Lair, it meant pitch black screen even right next to a lamp. Had to set NAC's interior brightness to +2 to return to vanilla like "it's dark but you can at least recognize most shapes" and the lights now light the surrounding area somewhat normally (around 1.5-2 meters of light around lamps then gradually turning dark)

PS: Curse the damn NAC for disabling all commentary so you need to find about issues it brings in 20 other mods to find out what's what. Jeez. Just because they don't want to be bothered..

Don't get your hopes up too much. It only helps getting the lamps to glow properly.... but Bethesda really did a shoddy job lighting the locations (dunno if intentionally or by the usual lazyness) - especially in DLCs, so there are literally tons of locations with ZERO light sources, however small, and you'll see nothing even with Night Vision on, no matter how high you set the brightness or gamma, forcing you to turn on flashlight anyways.

Then again, maybe it was intentional. I mean, look at how often lightbulbs break due to planned obsolency these days. I'd guess average lifespan of a lightbulb in fallout's 2077 was 500 hours or less...  even assuming that all the Mr Handys keep replacing them (provided they manage to find some spares),  every single lightbulb still going by year 2278 is a real miracle happening... and it's not like there are windows in secret underground facilities

How's this with NAC X for others? I'm loving the ENB but I'm getting a strange visual thing once in a while after dusk. The whole screen will brighten up for a few seconds which doesn't happen with ENB off. I'm assuming it's some sort of incompatibility with NAC X? I've turned off all the effects I can find so as just to have the weathers. Anyone got ideas?

It is a great enb because it is very friendly to performance but I come across a very annoying issue that this enb somehow sightly blurs my game , feels like I am nearsighted. I am sure it is not caused by dof because I have already disabled it . Does anyone konw how to fix it ??

Sounds like you might have the same problem as me, like it's adding DoF with the no-DoF preset. Try opening your ENB settings in-game and see if DoF is still enabled, uncheck and should be fixed. That did it for me.

Longtime user of True Storms and True Nights, though this is the first time in a while I've gone the extra and re-installed ENB to go with it. I love everything about Subtle except for some reason I'm still getting DoF using the no DoF version. I've already been using the recommended DoF removal mod for as long as the two True mods and it always worked fine. Suddenly I install Subtle and there's DoF again. >_<
Not sure what I did wrong, if anything, anyone have a suggestion? I'm using the latest version of Subtle starlit nights no DoF, True Storms, True Nights, and DoF Removal, with ENB v0.291 as recommended here. My FPS could care less but I really don't like the DoF blur at any level, help would be appreciated.

Edit - Double checked my in-game ENB settings and noticed that DoF was still checked as enabled. Turned it off and everything is fixed lol.

Another Edit - So on further testing I switched to the True Nights recommended ENB v0.307 and used the enbseries.ini that came with it (the extra settings for Environment are needed for the True Nights changes). Doing this also corrected the No DoF issue and it's properly disabled on start now. Using the DLLs, local and series ini files from v0.307 then I kept the enbseries folder from this preset using the manual install method. Fixed everything up as needed.

Truly is a beautiful night time setting with these all together...
